Granny didn't take long to come back. For an old woman she was quite fast. Once she got home she laid out some newspapers along the floor and put on some surgical-type gloves.
"Can one of you hand me the box of hair stuff from that bag there?" She nodded at the bag near the door.
"Yeah," I showed her a black box I picked up. "Is this it?"
"Yes, it is. Thank you." She took out a bottle and a packet of powder from the box and mixed it. I had to scrunch up my nose at the potent smell. Miku looked over in concern.
"Miku, come here and sit." He followed the order but gave me a worried glance.
"Will it hurt?"
"No. But I need you to stay still. I also want to cut your hair." She placed the bottle aside and started cutting at his long hair. The scissors stayed above his shoulders and his wolf-like hair became a cute, fluffy looking mess. Next she took a comb and made a path down a side of his head. She took the bottle and started squirting out it's black liquid.
"That tickles!"
"Stay still." She smiled. "Your skin may not be stained long, but I would like you to look presentable tomorrow."
"Why, what's going on?" I asked.
"I am bringing you two to go clothes shopping and to meet people. I want to get you settled as humans as soon as possible. That way there should be less suspicion and you can make some friends outside the forest."
"People outside the forest? Won't they notice something is off?"
"So far you two are doing well. I can teach you some mannerisms you should know and if anything goes wrong I can blame it on you mot being from here. Or I can even blame it on my daughter, she won't mind." She chuckled.
"Okay. We will do our best!"
"I hope you'd follow through on that. It is your head on the line however. You are in charge of yourself when it comes down to it." She tied a plastic bag around the hairy part of his head.
"Face me." He turned around and she started to put a thin layer on his eyebrows.
"Alright. You should be done now, but don't touch your face. Rin, I'd like to do your hair as well."
"Okay." I smiled as she brushed my hair. My hair stayed long, but she cut off the damaged ends. Next she started rolling my hair into some weird hairstyle.
"Your hair should be curly tomorrow if you sleep with it up like this. Anyways, there has been one thing I've been wondering about."
"What do you wish to know?"
"How do you know so much about the human world already? I didn't have to teach you much so far, but sone of these things you wouldn't know from the wild."
"My mother used to teach me. We had a picture book that she used when I was little. After she pasted I taught Miku. We even learned how to read a little, but I can't say very well. My mother said it was to help us if we ever went to the human world. Also to make us less of a burden to you if we had to flee."
"Of course she did. She was a smart little girl. I'm not too surprised she tried to teach you things from the human world as well. Was the book a creamy yellow with blue lining?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
"I once gave that book to her. After all these years I forgot I gave it to her." She smiled. I helped her clean up the scraps of hair and paper on the floor as my brother got in the shower. When he came out he had a grin. The black male wolves had higher power in our pack, and so he would always admire their glossy coats. Now he had shiny black hair of his own and he loved it.
