As the days passed by, I got more and more accustomed to my little body. I also got a lot more proficient in using the sword. I had also got a fair understanding of using magic as well.
I had turned 5 years old and today was the day I would get to know the type of magic I specialise in. Me, my mom, dad and sister Luna all went to the Imperial Museum. There were a lot of children present.
Max and Seraphina were also there. Those two were my only friends in this world so far and I got along with them very well. As soon as I saw them, I called out. They noticed me and came towards me. It had been about 5 months since I last met them.
" What have you guys been doing since we last met?" I asked them both.
" Well, I was studying this whole time. I've read about 100 books on magic." Said Seraphina. I was seriously impressed by this achievement, a mere 5 year old reading a 100 books in 5 months .
" I've been doing nothing extraordinary, my dad took me on a mission recently. It was to kill some goblins. It was a really frightening scene to be honest. I was hiding behind dad all the time." Said max with a frightened look.
" We'll just have to get used to it max. " Seraphina said to him.
" Yea, I guess so" Answered Max in a low voice.
" So what type are you guys hoping for?" I asked them both.
" I would love to be a magic swordsman." Said Max.
" Bold words from someone who cant even look at some goblins being killed." I countered.
" Oh shut up." Max said in a teased voice.
" I would like to be a mage." Said Seraphina.
" What about you, Lawrence?" asked Max.
" Well, I would like to be something unique, like a dark magic wielder or copy magic user." I answered.
" It'll cause an uproar in the whole country you know. A 5 year old dark magic user is something that hasnt been seen in the last century."
" Guess so." I answered carelessly.
" You sure are chill about it" Max said.
" Of course I am, it's not something I am in control of right? So what's the point in worrying about it?Its not like the outcome is gonna change just because I wished for something else." I shrugged.
" Yeah that's true." Max replied.
It was about time they made the kids stand in line for their test. There were around 500 children. I was placed in the later half of the line at around the 400th spot. Seraphina was pretty close to the front and Max was just a few numbers behind her.
Time passed and Seraphina and Max both got their answer. It was almost my turn, and after 2 long hours of waiting in line I got my name called out. I was getting excited. I went up to the room where they had a crystal ball. We had one at home as well so I wasnt surprised by it. They told me to place my dominant hand on the ball. I did as I was told. I put my left hand, which was my weaker hand, on the ball. Of course they had no way of knowing which my dominant hand was. They read the results and wrote it down. They then told me some spells and told me to use them on a dummy which was placed about 100 m away from me. I used all the spells with my left hand. They wrote down the results. Then they made me use a sword against a dummy swordsman who could move. I fought against it and beat it. They wrote down the results once again. Then they led me to a room and told me to wait.
I was wondering what my type would be. After some time a man came to me with a piece of paper in his hand. He said to me.....
"Mr. Lawrence, you are a magic swordsman."
When I heard this I was kinda disappointed but this is reality and there was nothing I could do about it.
Well, after that I went outside the building where Max and Seraphina were waiting for me. I went up to them. Max noticed me coming and waved his hand. I hurried to where they were sitting.
" So, what did you get?" asked Max
I sighed and said....." Magic swordsman. " in a very disappointed tone.
He chuckled and said, " So much for a 'unique ability '".
"Anyways, what did you two get?" I asked.
" I am also a magic swordsman." replied an overjoyed Max
" I'm a witch" said Seraphina in a very content manner.
" oh wow. That's pretty good." I replied to Seraphina.
A witch is a type of a mage. She can cast spells of different forms. Such as a flotation spell, teleportation spell and in some cases even reincarnation or summoning spells. There hasnt been a witch who has been able to cast the last two spells mentioned in over 300 years.
We chatted with each other of our future aspirations for a while and then my parents came to pick me up. I said goodbye to them and went home.
On the way back I told my parents about my ability and they were pretty happy with it. Of course, being a magic swordsman doesn't mean that you don't need to know about other abilities. Remember that one person can wield more than one ability.
At home, sister Luna was waiting for us and had also prepared dinner. I told her about my ability while eating dinner and also told her about the tests they conducted. It was a very fun day.
Then came bedtime and like any other 5 year old, I slept after finishing my dinner.
