Chapter 9 - Ch#8: Mana Control

A few days passed and I continued to train myself. From cultivating a little I found out that my mana core was on 2 star yellow tier. I was pretty surprised by this. I was expecting myself to be at least in the orange tier since I had done a lot of magic training. I asked brother Dave as to how one can increase their mana core. He told me that it happens with age. He also told me that the bigger your mana core is, the more power your magic will have. It is very rare that someone under the age of 15 can break through to orange tier. Considering that I was only 6, 2 star is pretty good. I decided not to worry about the core and continued my practice.

One day as I was practicing with my father, he told me about mana control. I had read about it I'm books but seeing it in person was a completely different experience. He concentrated his mana into his first and told me to stand back. Then he punched a tree which got cut in half and fell down. It was an extraordinary scene. He then told me to do the same. I tried but the tree didnt break. It did get a hole, as big as my first, in the middle though.

Days passed and my 7th birthday came in an instant. My dad wasnt really found of having birthday parties so we didnt invite anyone. It was by no means a dull birthday though. All my sisters and brothers were present there apart from brother Mason. It was the first time I was seeing sister Clara and sister Susan in person. Sister Susan was now 23 years old and sister Clara was 19. It had been a very long time since father and mother had seen almost all their kids together and I could tell how happy they were from the smiles on their faces. Sister Susan and sister Clara left the day after though, it seemed that they had work to do and as they lived far away they had to go early.

My daily routine continued, I started practicing my sword skills a little more and I used to go to the city every now and then to look for some books or just to play with Marie. Since Marie had no father and her mother was an adventurer, she was mostly alone at her house. Marie was one of the shy types so it took a lot of time before she opened up to me but now we got along really well. I used to teach her a thing or two about magic every now and then as well since I had read a lot, I knew a lot about the fundamentals.

One day I was just strolling around the city in search of some good swords with Marie when I bumped into Seraphina. She was with a boy who was about the same age as us. It was a coincidence we weren't expecting so at first we just stood there, confirming who the other was. Then we happily greeted each other. I introduced her to Marie and when I asked who the boy is she told me that he is her neighbor's kid and they were out looking for ingredients to make potions and all that. She was a witch so it was common practice for her. It seemed that the boy she was with liked her as he was a little frustrated about my sudden appearance. I noticed that and made a smug face. He clearly understood what I was implying but controlled himself pretty well.We chatted a little but then went our separate ways. Marie was a bit cautious of Seraphina and was giving off a vide similar to that boy. I chose to ignore it though. Then we went in a shop where I found a really good sword. It was pretty much a medium size. I bought that, then dropped off Marie and went home.

The next day I practiced using that sword, I thought of the sword as my own body and transferred mana to it. It was pretty tiring to maintain this for a long time. At first I could only do it for about 2 minutes. so instead if practicing attacks, I just worked on my endurance. After about a week or so of practice i could now transfer mana to the sword and maintain that for about 2 or 3 hours. I felt that my mana core had made a break through as well.

I then started practicing attacks. When I transfer mana to the sword, it becomes just like a part of my body. I can use attacks such as mana blasts from the sword. It was pretty tough at first but no pain no gain, so I just kept at it. Sometimes my father would watch me train and give me advice as well. I learnt most of it through books tho. Since I had read every book in the house I often went to the library in the city to look for more attacking and defensive technology. I found many informative and interesting books there. I spent most of the day training and my days were going in peace. I wonder for how long it will stay like this.....
