Years passed, I continued my training, when I got to 12 years of age I was allowed to leave the house at will. I often went to the forest nearby to test out my skills against beasts. One day I encountered a very big wolf. It was about 6 feet tall.
At first I decided to stealth kill it but it noticed me sooner than I expected. I had no choice but to fight. I took out my sword and got ready. It approached me cautiously. Since the wolf was being very careful I decided to take the initiative and attacked it first. I cast a pretty basic fire magic. The flames came out of my hand like it was a flamethrower. It was pretty wide in range so the wolf couldnt dodge it in time.
As the remaining smoke began to clear I slowly approached the wolf. It wasnt there. Then I sensed something coming at me from behind at great speed. I turned around and blocked the attack using my sword. The wolf was injured but not seriously. My next move was to use lighting. I molded my mana in the form of lightning and transferred it to my sword. The sword was sparkling and an electric field was created around me. I pointed my sword towards the wolf and a thunder bolt came out of the tip of the sword which traveled at great speed and hit the wolf who died at the spot. I chopped the wolf and stored the meat in my inventory. It was getting pretty dark so I decided to head back home.
We ate the meat of the wolf for dinner and went to sleep. Now I was almost 13 and the time to go to the Magic Academy was nearing. I had almost perfectly mastered mana control and my skill with the sword wasnt that bad either. My mana core was now a 4 star orange tier. I felt that I was pretty close to a breakthrough as well. My magic skill wasnt anything extraordinary but I could use almost all types of magic. That was my speciality.
Soon my 13th birthday came and now I was technically eligible to join the Magic Academy when the next session started. I had been looking forward to this time for a long time.
Several months had passed and tomorrow was the day I left for the Magic Academy. First I'll go to the Capital and then from there I, along with hundreds of other children will be taken to the Academy.
That night I went to the forest. I looked for a strong beast and found that in the shape of a "black bear". This species was quite rare in the country. It was about 15 feet tall and it could use magic. I fought it head on. The first attack was done by the bear. It made a black ball in its paw and threw it at me. I dodged it barely. The ball had made a huge blast and emptied about 200 yards of the forest. I took out my sword and enforced it with mana. I hit the ground with my sword, transferring mana to the ground which caused the ground to crack and then fall apart. The bear jumped up and at that moment I used the same lighting attack I did to defeat the wolf, at the bear. It was in mid air so it couldnt dodge the attack so it tried to block it but it was useless. 'The thunderbolt' was my favourite attack and I had out quite a lot of effort to learn it. The bear got hit by the attack and fell down.
I went up to it and checked if it was dead or not. Sure enough it was dead. I put my hand at the bear's head and.... "Mana transfer"..... Some of my mana got transferred to the bear and the bear which was black until now, turned maroon. Then the bear opened its eyes, I saw that it had no eyeballs and did a fist pump in joy that my spell had succeeded. The bear's body was now in my control. I had read about this spell in a book and had tried it on smaller animals. Some were successful and some were not.
After this I went back home and got in bed to sleep. I hot very little sleep though due to the excitement of going to a magic school.
In the morning, I ate my breakfast, said goodbye to mom and dad. Mom was pretty sensitive, she was doing a really good job of holding back her tears. I said "its okay" to her on which she burst out crying. She hugged me really tight and maintained that stance for about 2 or 3 minutes. When all her tears had gone away, she released me and said, " Take care of yourself Lawrence." with teary eyes and a bright smile. I was really moved by her actions and I felt like crying as well. I held back though. After saying my goodbyes I took my luggage and started walking towards the city. It was dawn and the scenes along the way were pretty refreshing. Clear blue sky, lots of trees on both sides and a clear, wide pathway between them. I hadn't felt this refreshed in a long long time.
By the time I reached the city, the sun was completely showing and the weather had become quite hot as well. I was supposed to meet up with the other kids at a very small library deep in the city. It was quite close to Marie's house and I had plenty of time so I decided to visit her before leaving.
I arrived and knocked at her door. When she came out and saw me she was quite surprised. She asked, " Why are you here?" in a surprised tone.
"Is it so wrong to visit someone you cherish before leaving?" I countered her with this question. I deliberately said "someone you cherish " to see how she would react. She is a tsun type so I was expecting some reaction.
On hearing my question she blushed and said
" Well it's ok I guess." very shyly.
I smiled at her and then chatted idly for some time. Then as the appointed time was getting close I got up from my seat and said,
"Well I shall be going now."
" Yeah sure." she said with a thin smile.
"See you later then, Marie." I said to her
"yeah...and dont you dare get a girlfriend behind my back ok?" She said so with a very embarrassed expression.
"hahahaha I make no promises."
" Ah mouuu!" She said with a cute and embarrassed face.
I said goodbye and was on my way towards the library. When I entered the library there were about a 100 or so kids present there. I looked for familiar faces but when I couldnt see anyone I knew, I just sat in a corner. After a while Seraphina and Max entered, I raised my hand to signal them that I am over here. They didnt see it though and went the other way.
Soon after two guys, wearing that intelligence unit uniform came. Maybe 1 of them is the one I fought with back then. I remembered the incident about 7 years ago when I fought with one of the intelligence unit guys. It didnt seem like they were focusing on me though. After a short while one of them opened a portal and told us all to line up. I waited for the other kids to get in like and joined in at about 10 places from last place. I was getting goosebumps already. I couldnt wait to get to the academy. I was unusually excited today for some reason.
Soon my place came and I entered the portal. It was like falling from a high building at a great speed. I got a little dizzy because of that. I suddenly found myself lying on the ground. I slowly started to get up and what I saw was.....
