Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Mevious International Academy:

High School Class 2006

It's a typical Friday night--- Fire Friday!

Most students in Mevious Academy went for a night out either to relax or unwind. And the most popular place for them was RAIUL RAZBOINIC, a cozy resort in the far north of the city.

It's situated near the majestic waterfall, people could hear the rush of the water as it cascaded from the towering rock face.

In one of the cottages were students having the time of their lives.

Well, yeah! High school students were allowed to drink alcohol, but with one condition.

Drink only what you can!

"Zup y'all?" I greeted with enthusiasm as I approach everyone.

"What took you so long?" Amanda asked while pouting her cherry lips, appearing to be cute.

"But it's okay coz' you look really dashing tonight, so my heart's been aching for you. When will you be my boyfriend?" she said while clinging to my arms as everyone said "oooooooooooh" in unison.

I simply removed her hands from my arms.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked.

"She's drunk Brad," Samantha exclaimed.

"Uh-huh! In vino veritas, mates," Peter said with sarcasm.

"Well, Amanda looks so shy in school. But, I think she really liked Brad so much that she hasn't gotten any courage to say it without being intoxicated," he added.

I looked at Amanda with amusement while shaking my head. Then, let her sat down at the table. The night was still young, so we drank and sang like there's no tomorrow. Amidst the festive atmosphere, a weary heart cried in silence.

The following Monday, Amanda slid a note in my notebook that said she wanted to talk to me in private. I was cool about it, so I met her at the secluded part of the Rose garden at the back of the academy.

"Whatever you did last Friday is nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, you were drunk so you were not yourself," I told Amanda who was sobbing in embarrassment in front of me.

Few students were present coz it's already class hours. Some students were having a group study under the bustling tree while others were either reading alone or chatting with their friends on the wooden benches at the park. Nobody seemed to notice what's going on so I was relieved.

"I know. But, I shouldn't have confessed in front of many students. I don't have a face to show after that incident. What should I do now? I'm sure that I am the talk of the town," Amanda explained while wiping her tears on her cheeks.

I exhaled in desperation.

"Why do you have to care about what others may think about you? The truth is what matters," I uttered.

She looked at me with her teary eyes. It was the first time I saw her face up close. Our eyes locked for a moment before I looked away. Then, I cleared my throat as I stepped back.

"I have to go Amanda... err... I have to finish my homework. See ya 'round," I muttered as I walked away.

"What was that?" I asked myself as her face flashed in my mind. She wasn't that very beautiful in general standard, but there's something in her that really caught my attention. Her almond eyes accentuated by long lashes were really expressive. And, I was always drawn by her warm smile.

"Would it be that I like her?" I thought before hitting my head on the concrete wall like crazy.

I screamed in pain. Some students looked at me suspiciously but I didn't care.

"She's just a friend," I reminded myself. I screamed in pain when someone banged my head on the wall. It wasn't strong but enough to make me a little dazed. I turned around and saw Helena smiling widely at me.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I grunted.

She shrugged and furrowed her brows. "I thought you needed help," she smirked. I massaged my forehead, aching from the bump.

"I wonder what's causing you so much pain, Anderson. Is it a woman?" Helena teased.

I turned harshly and glared. "Get lost! You're a Wolf after all," I groaned. She chuckled before getting something from her bag. It was an ointment to prevent my forehead from bruising.

"I saw a while ago, Anderson. You like her don't you?" Helena said as she put on the ointment. I grimaced both from the pain and what she just said. I sighed but I didn't admit nor comment about it.

"Anyway, are you done with your project?" I asked to divert the topic. She put the ointment back in her bag. Then she turned to me and shook her head. I looked at her, waiting for an answer. She exhaled.

"What's the point," she said softly, "I'm transferring anyway." I didn't know what to say. She's been talking about a possibility for her to change school but the news still came as a total shock.

Time flew. It's been a month since that confusing moment. We kept our cool every time we met each other and were bent on studying harder. Besides, the thought of Helena leaving was also bothering me.

I tried so hard to suppress the budding emotion not to fuel any misunderstandings between Amanda and me. Because since that day, I became more aware of her presence. I even felt empty every parting time.

I was so consumed by my thought when someone hit the back of my head.

"Aw! What the----!" I exclaimed as I stood up to face the person who did it. It was Peter smirking with his arms crossed.

"So... I guess it's true that you're in love," he said while sitting beside me.

I gave him a quizzical look.

"Don't even try denying it, mate. It's too obvious. The way you look at her says everything," he added while gesturing at Amanda sitting under a tree with her friends.

"I don't know what you're insinuating. Can you be more specific?" I replied masking my nervousness.

"I know you like Amanda, ain't it?" he said while looking at me with his piercing eyes.

"Nope. I don't know where you got that idea... but no. She's just a friend," I answered casually.

He sighed.

"If you say so, but I hope you won't regret it someday," he replied giving me a tap on my shoulder.

I just nodded. But, confused.
