Chapter 3 - The Accident

"Maureen? Wake up dear, do you want to be late on your first day?"

Such a friendly voice sounded in Maureen's ears. Maureen heard it but seemed reluctant to open her eyes. Somehow, the last few days the gravity of the bed was so strong.

Knock ... Knock ... Knock ... "Maureen? I know you're awake. Come on, honey."

Of course, Maureen heard that clearly. With the slightest willpower, she slowly opened her eyes. Her gaze was fixed on an alarm clock that was on the table near his head. And as soon as he saw the two black arrows on the alarm clock, it was as if her entire consciousness had arisen.

Maureen rounded her eyes perfectly, "Jeez!" she said speaking to her own alarm.

Maureen quickly picked up her alarm clock, staring at it in disbelief. "Why didn't you wake me up? If you were damaged, at least say something!" she said to her alarm clock.

Arini, Maureen's mother who heard her child's complaint from behind the door of the room smiled as she shook her head. She spun the pink doorknob around and wore a fierce, contrived expression. "Come on, wake up. Take a shower and get ready. After that, eat your breakfast. Don't waste any more time."

Maureen put her alarm clock next to her pillow and jumped out of bed. She ran towards the bathroom, passed Arini without saying anything. Arini who saw that just smiled and stepped into Maureen's room straightened the blanket, and put back the alarm clock where it should have been.

Arini continued her footsteps towards the window of Maureen's room and opened the window so the sunlight could enter the room. Arini frowned when she saw a cat that had dark black fur looking at her from the top of a neighbor's house roof.

She didn't want to comment on that.

Maybe for some people who believe in myths, seeing a black cat is a sign of bad luck. She believed that good and bad luck were determined by the Almighty, not a black cat. Arini opened Maureen's wardrobe and prepared a uniform that Maureen would wear to high school on her first day.

Yep, today is Maureen's first day at school at one of the most favorite public schools in the town.

Arini and Maureen have only lived together since she divorced Hari, and won custody of Maureen in court, their only daughter.

In the bathroom, Maureen began her morning ritual at a fairly fast pace. She realized that if she didn't speed up her movements, she would be late for school on the first day. And no one wants to experience that.

Her hands were painstakingly rubbing the curves of her body with the thick liquid from her favorite apple-scented bath soap. At normal condition, Maureen would take a long time in the bathroom because she really enjoyed cleaning her body. But this time it was different because the circumstances did require her to perform a quick bath-ritual.

With the towel still over her body, she ran back into the room and got dressed.

At the dining table, Arini has also finished making breakfast for Maureen. Arini walked out of the house to heat the engine of the car she was going to use to take Maureen to school.

What a busy morning.

The traffic light turned green, and horns sounded from several cars lining up behind them, making Arini gasped a little and immediately stepped on the gas pedal while releasing the clutch slowly.

Their car started to move, but what Maureen had just realized made Arini startled.

"Jeez! I forgot my cell phone, it's on the table in my room!"

Arini turned her head. She was a little angry, not because of what Maureen had forgotten, but because Maureen shocked her while she is driving. She turned her head, "Why did you forget it?"

"Huaaaa!~ ... I don't want to not bring my cellphone, let's turn around to get it!" whimpered Maureen in her spoiled voice. Maureen is indeed a spoiled child, even though she only lives alone with her mother, she still can't let go of her spoiled nature. Even she was a high school student which is considered a grown-up person right now, his character is still the same as a child who has just entered junior high school.

Still in a state of panic as a result of Maureen's whining like a child, a truck carrying bricks came from the side. Even though the traffic light had shown a red color, the truck driver seemed to have broken the rules and ran the red light.

"Come on, pleaseeeee~ ... "

BEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP!~ ...

The sound of a very loud horn came from the side, making Arini turn her head. In a state of urgency, Arini tried to avoid the truck, but the truck's speed was too fast and Arini's car, which was still in first gear, made her unable to avoid it.

Crassshhhhhh~ ...

Such a tragic accident just happened.

Both Arini and Maureen were unconscious.

And Maureen did not know, that it was the last time she could see her beloved mother.

That's when she lost her mother and left her lying in a coma.
