Chapter 29 - Retrospective: Kakashi

Morning is such a cruel thing, at least for most…

For one specific white haired Shinobi, morning was both cruel and a merciful savior.

Why? You ask.

Truthfully I have no idea, it's just how I see it. Unfortunately I have no way of knowing what exactly is going inside Kakashi's head, no matter how much I wish I did.

Certainly would have been useful, especially when he… well it doesn't matter, not anymore.

I'm getting side tracked.

Back to the story.

Kakashi, son of the White Fang, and more importantly my best friend started his day like any other.

He did his morning routine.

He walked into the kitchen to see his best friend passed out at the table all while a clone of his best friend, who had been around for weeks at this point, prepared breakfast.

Sozo Akinori, the strange child his father brought home one day. Someone he would rather not be around if given the choice, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective, Kakashi did not get a choice.

As strange as it was, his father seemed to enjoy the company of this Sozo Akinori. So when his visits became more frequent all Kakashi could do was ignore him.

Ignoring him worked.

Sozo even returned the favor for the most part, as long as his father was around Sozo didn't really seek him out. All he had to deal with was the occasional nonsense conversation that was always one sided.

But as time went on and Sozo moved into his father's room, Kakashi gave him a chance. His father saw something in him, so surely it wouldn't be a waste of time.

Now he has to deal with this.

A clone that he was responsible for.

And a friend who… tried.

Once food was served Kakashi ate and left before I even woke up.

Long night of seal reconfiguration.

Now this is where the details get iffy.

As Kakashi was nowhere near me or my clone.

So let's speculate, Kakashi was currently restricted to the village and couldn't take on any missions above D-rank. He definitely didn't go out and serve his community by doing D-ranks that's for sure.

I don't think Kakashi even did a D-rank until Team Minato was formed, he definitely didn't need the money, Sakumo left him quite the inheritance.

I'm getting side tracked again.

So he either trained on his own or with Minato.

Minato is quite the capable Shinobi so chances are he wouldn't be in the village. I believe sometime soon Minato would become quite famous, earning himself a title.

The Yellow Flash.

So Kakashi most likely trained on his own for a bit. At least until he decided to go visit his father.

On his way to his father's grave Kakashi caught the scent of someone familiar.

It was Sozo.

Following the trial Kakashi moved slowly suppressing his chakra as much as he could and not getting too close to Sozo. He'd sense him if wasn't careful.

Sneaking up on Sozo wasn't easy, Kakashi could only get so close before he was found out.

Fortunately or unfortunately, once again depending on your perspective, Sozo wasn't exactly on guard right now.

Hiding in the tree line Kakashi saw Sozo laying down next to Sakumo's grave talking to him about all sorts of stuff.

Kakashi moved closer wanting to hear what Sozo was saying, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"You know you could've warned me. I understand from your perspective I am a child, but it would have been nice to know. Maybe I would have trained a lot more than I did.

I didn't realize how much I depended on you, or everything you were apparently doing for me. Like seriously I was being watched, evaluated, monitored, I never even noticed, but you did.

That day I ran into you, a moment that could have easily not happened. Where would I be now if we never met.

Probably dead to be honest, killed on my first mission.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is I forgive you. You did a lot for me, but you kinda left Kakashi when he needed you, so I'm gonna have to hold you accountable for that one.

I did my best to… comfort?

No that doesn't sound right.

I did my best in the situation you left us in.

I got Kakashi out of the war… temporarily, but I did it. You'd think with Kakashi being a valuable future asset the village would be more concerned with his well being but no.

So I'll try for you and Kakashi."

Kakashi watched as Sozo left.

He wanted to follow him but decided against it.

On his way home Sozo came across some familiar chakra, it was Kakashi's.

Later that day the two of them sat at the same table.

This was actually quite the stressful situation for me as i wasn't sure exactly how much Kakashi listened in on, i said somethings I'd rather keep to myself.

Kakashi knew something was off with Sozo, he was never this quiet.

The silence was uncomfortable.

So Kakashi decided to do something he typically wouldn't, he began to tell Sozo about his day.

Kakashi didn't know exactly why.

Maybe as an apology for listening in on a conversation that was private.

But what did Kakashi have do be guilty for, it was Sozo who put him in therapy.

It was Sozo who was responsible for him being confined to the village.

If anyone had to apologize it was Sozo.

And yet Kakashi wasn't upset.

He just kept on talking about his day while Sozo listened with a small smile on his face.

------------------------------------------

This is quite different form what i usually do. Don't know why I did it but it was fun so ill probably end up doing it again at some point, or maybe I'll write a chapter from Anko perspective, that could be fun, or Taki, I can do so much with him. all I have to do is write it down.

its hard to write. especially when working with a black slate like Taki.

i wrote and entire chapter the day after chapter 28, I was about to upload and everything. then I decided against it, now its another draft that will never see the light of day.

probably.

wanna know another fun fact about this story, it originally was supposed to take place in one of the other great villages. during the planning phase writing about any other village then the leaf was quite the daunting task so I just went with the leaf. in the future I want to try writing a story in one of the other Villages, but that will have to wait.

Its quite obvious but I'll still say it. This chapter is told form Sozo perspective just like every other chapter, but this is not the Sozo we've been following. This is an older Sozo.

how much older?

well we just have to wait and see.
