Chapter 61 - Ajun

"You have an idea where to go?" The spirit asked him.

"I do, but I think I need to finish these people following us first," Lander replied emotionless.

"You can also sense them?" The spirit was stunned.

"Nope, but I feel them," Lander rejected.

"Hey, what do you mean by that?" The spirit asked as Lander already moved behind a tree. He has been observing his surroundings ever since he felt people following him. Being a thief and thug on Earth, he was already accustomed to stalking and being stalked. Adjusting to the surroundings was his greatest way to get rid of those people. He won't care if he died today as that day would come, after a month.

Being the hunter, Lander adjusted his positioning from time to time but his preys were also good that they were communicating with each other while moving non-stop.

"These people are well-coordinated," Lander sighed as he decided to back off and move away trying to shake them off.

Running, this was his strength and he would eventually lose them. It was a test of stamina. Although he was coughing blood non-stop, he was still able to run at a speed he wanted.

Meanwhile, the five men stalking Lander gathered around, "Why didn't we use that time to kill him. He's just an outcast!"

"Why do you think the Head Professor of Wyvern Academy needed five of us to kill him?" The leader said seriously.

"Does he have protection? A life-saving amulet?"

"Does he have a backer we can't offend?"

"All those things are true but I'm afraid his capabilities are more extraordinary. Did you see that he was able to sense us despite being an outcast? I was almost injured when he attacked me but because of our coordination, I manage not to get hit by his knife," The leader explained clenching the knife that Lander threw at him and continued, "Moreover, we have been chasing for an hour now but he's not even tired at all."

The other four agreed and nodded their heads and one of them noticed Lander always coughing, "Why was he always coughing, was he sick?"

"Maybe, as he was also coughing out black blood," The leader replied.

They tried following him again watching his every step and Lander was starting to get piss, "These people won't stop and they have greater stamina than the average people in this world."

Thinking of ideas to shrug them of, Lander remembered the essence of creating a trap and so Lander would make different kinds of traps like snares, small pit with pointed woods at the bottom and others that could lead to lethality.

The pursuers suddenly slowed down as one of them was instantly killed by Lander's trap so they became cautious. But the one killed wasn't amongst the five whom the Head Professor of the Wyvern Academy hired.

It seems that not only them was pursuing Lander but a dozen more of them and as they pursued, their number kept dwindling down until only the five were left.

"We can't catch up to him with our speed!" One of them implied.

"I know, but we have to be cautious. Or else the death of one amongst us will create uncertainty, anger and distress." The leader replied.

Lander, despite being so far away from the pursuers was still laying traps after traps. And after two weeks of fast paced travelling, he already arrived at the place where he started, the Slave Town.

Looking around, the place was already in ruins and was unhabitable by humans as many imps and any other devil creatures were walking around and they all stopped when they spotted Lander.

The five pursuers were able to catch up to him and saw these devil creatures, "This! This is impossible!"

"Have they already started the invasion?" The spirit also asked inside Lander's soul while trembling in fear, "No! This can't be happening!"

Hearing the spirit, Lander instantly knew that no one cared about this town yet they were afraid of them, so he turned towards the five, "I know you want to kill me but it's useless as I will die after two weeks but you guys can be some heroes. Why don't you report this to the Emperor or to the Kings of Wyvern Region?"

"What do you mean you'll die?" The leader asked.

"Why do you have to question him? Let's go and report this matter to the higher-ups!" One of them followed Lander's suggestion.

"Let's leave him now or we'll die today!" Another shouted.

"Leader, don't blame us for leaving you behind!" One was already running away.

"To hell with the mission! I'd rather be alive!" The last member cursed as he followed the first one to run.

"What do you plan on doing?" The leader was scared but he was fearless when facing death. If it comes to fight, he'll show his might.

"I'm going to wreak havoc here! I only have two weeks left, and I plan doing this for the rest of my time left, cough," Lander said with determination.

"I see, but what if you can escape? And you're using this filthy creatures as an excuse so we can't follow you?" The leader questioned. He needed the money urgently and killing Lander was his only choice.

"Then why don't you just kill me now then?" Lander said smiling.

Seeing Lander's reaction the man was hesitant as he was thinking, 'Was this also a trap?'

The devil creatures was already near Lander when most of them attacked with black magic. Lander escaped in a brief second then using his only knife, he strikes back and was able to kill some of them. But because of the number advantage, the devil creatures ganged up on Lander and before he passed out, "Hey there spirit, go now or they'll also permanently kill you!"

The spirit nodded and flew out of Lander's soul and using her magic speed, she was able to escape. She bowed down towards the Slave town and murmured, "Thank you young man!"

Meanwhile, the leader of the pursuers also ran away after seeing Lander being ganged up by those creatures. He clenched his teeth, "I admire your bravery but why? Why do people with courage die instead of those cowards and losers? Why?"

This man was actually a teenager using a disguise potion, this teenager would became the very first disciple of Lander, Ajun the youngest Don of the Abbernia Kingdom from the Phoenix Continent.
