Dakota slid the truck into park and headed toward his place.
"Dakota, may I ask you something?"
He nodded, giving me chis cocky grin. "Shoot! But not literally."
"What was Carl talking about when he said 'pledged'?" I realized I had a lot to learn about pack protocol and its ways.
Dakota bit his lower lip and then released it. "It's kind of like… becoming engaged. Each pledged his or her life to the other."
I nodded, trying to make sense of it in my sleepy state. "And the Mating Ceremony is like a wedding."
Dakota nodded, letting out a deep breath. "The Mating Ceremony is much more than a wedding." He looked into my eyes. "You become much more than just married. Your souls actually become entwined and impossible to separate."
A crease formed between my eyes. "So, a Pledging Ceremony is like an engagement party?"
