After his discussion with George, Jason had to stay after school for a while to heal. Now walking his way home Jason's been thinking about how best he can improve his quirk. Could he make wings and fly? Could he use it to turn invisible? These questions among others were bouncing around his mind. The town looks so dead at this time of day. But strangely beautiful. The way the sun shines through the alleys and windows. It's kinda strange that there are no people tho. Then about a quarter of the way home Jason realizes why no one is around. He hears the sounds of battle.
"That can't be good." Running towards the sound Jason turns into one of the small alleys and immediately stops. The amount of blood that is covering the walls and floor is chilling. There are bodies smashed into walls and hanging off of roofs. These people are definitely dead. But no hero would kill people like this. It's just not how they do things. But with the sounds of battle continuing on farther away Jason walks through the blood soaked battle field.
"I have to help whoever is fighting." As he follows the sounds of battle. There are more bodies like two rival groups. Two different uniforms. But there are far less of one uniform than the other. Turning down a corner towards the battle at hand.
Around that corner he sees one guy fighting off ten others. At that moment the lone combatant spots Jason "Run boy! While you still can!" As the woman says this she gets blasted with fire. And so Jason ran. As the group of ten closed in around the woman a shout comes from behind them.
"Leave her alone!" Jason breaks through the half circle of fighters with a sword and shield in hand. The group looks at each other and laughs.
One voice to the right speaks "Leave child. This is not your fight."
Another to the left "Let's just end the poor saps life."
Then another from the right. "No. We kill the woman and that's all."
As one guys hands turn into tentacles and lash out at the woman suffering on the ground Jason roars in anger and a circle of solid light encases him and the woman. The tip of a nose and a couple of fingers fall to the ground near some newly severed toes. Taking in this new development the evil-doers scatter like cockroaches some finding walking and balancing to be a bit more difficult with out toes.
Jason turns around to look at the woman on the floor. Her clothes is the same uniform of a few of the corpses he passed earlier. A long dark cloak with a deep hood, her body like the others is covered in black leather. "Come here boy." The woman says. Jason takes a step forward and kneels closer. "Thank you for trying to save me. What I'm about to tell you is not going to make sense right now but you'll come to accept it." She takes a deep shuddering breath then continues "The government has created a secret group of powerful hero's whose goal is to eliminate great threats to the country. This group is known as the Vigilante Initiative. We've been working in secret outside the government. Now we are sanctioned by the government to work outside the laws." She starts coughing profusely. During this time her good falls back revealing a blond woman who Jason almost mistakes for his mother. But the long purple scar across her face pushed the thought out of his mind.
"Tell me boy. If I said I could give you a power like no other what would you say?" The woman asks.
"Powers can't be given away. Every one knows that. But I guess if it was possible I'd say yes." Jason responds.
"Good. The book is yours. Master it." With those final words she lashes her hand out and grabs Jason's face. As her finger tips glow Jason's mind goes blank. And he collapses on the floor next to her.
