After face planting into a door, and picking George's jaw up off the floor, the trio decided to test different theories about Grix until it was time for school. Jasper had gone back to where ever he goes while not being called on so the kids had free reign. They tested throwing thing through it. Cans, balls, backpacks, and even a squirrel at one point thanks to Lillian. Everything popped out on the other side just fine. They tested if the exit speed is sped up if the only take one step through. It's not. They also learned things can not enter through an exit portal and in return can not exit through an entry portal. So they decided to go up on the roof. Jason opens the portal and walks through. The other two hesitate a little and in there hesitation the portal starts to close. "Uhh Jason.... the portal closed." George yells. So Jason comes back down opens another portal this time dragging his friends through behind him. "Well I guess that's one downside to your new quirk." George says sounding a little deflated.
Jason gives him a look of confusion "What do you mean George?"
Lillian answers for George "Someone can follow you through if you are running from them."
As she says this, realization settles and Jason feels a little put out by this new information. "Still this is pretty cool. I need to work on opening portals faster otherwise it's not useful in combat."
"How did you even get this book?" Lillian asks giving him a look.
And so Jason tells them the story of what happened yesterday. He left out the massive amounts of bodies and blood. But his friends listened intensely. After he finishes his story Lillian asks "How'd you get home though? I mean, you said she grabbed your face then you passed out." She gives him a questioning look.
At the mention of that Jasper pops out. "Ah well that was me. I carried master Jason back to his home. And before you say anything I am a part of him. So yes I do know where he lives." And Jasper vanishes. As the group sits now enjoying the cool morning air they hear an alarm going off.
"Oh shit. That's my alarm to wake up. If I don't get that my mom will be pissed." George says as he stands. "A little help Jason?" And all three walk through the newest portal on to the ground outside George's front door.
"Lillian I can try to portal you home if you want." Jason says noticing how the early morning light catches her silvery hair.
"No. I'll just walk. See you guys at school." Lillian replies in total dismissal as she walks out of George's backyard.
"Oh. Ok. See you."
Jason turns, opens a portal and walks through. As Jason walks out of the portal he scares the living daylights out of his mom making her drop her plate of eggs. "What the fuck?" His mom shouts out light burning in her hands. "Who the fu-.. Jason?" She grabs a rag off of the counter and slaps his shoulder with it a few times. "You scared the shit out of me son! How the hell are you even able to do that?" She says in surprise.
"Well umm.... hey Jasper. Do you mind explaining? I'm not sure I totally understand it all the way." Jason calls out to seeming nothingness.
"Young Master Jason, you really must pay more attention when someone speaks." Jasper say materializing. As he finishes materializing he's leaning on the counter. "Kids these days. Am I right?" And with that Jason's mom feints. As she falls Jason rushes over to her along with Jasper. "Out of the way Master Jason! I'm a doctor." He looks up. "Well my first user was but I have all the knowledge that all my users had. I'm like a Swiss Army knife in a way." Then he looks back down. "I must focus." He gets to work on checking her pulse. Checking her for any bleeding injuries. After a minute or two Tanya comes to.
Now while Jasper is an attractive English man the fact that a stranger is leaning over her in her kitchen almost makes her feint again. "What is going on Jason? How is this happening? And don't you dare ask Jessie... Jackson? Whoever this is don't ask him." She say pointing at Jasper.
"Well Master Jason it appears I am not needed at the moment. And your mother frightens me so good day." And with that Jasper disappears and Jason's mother stands and glares at him waiting for an answer.
"Well... I sort of inherited a bunch of new powers. I was walking home from school the other day after combat training and I heard fighting. As I passed by an alley way I saw a bunch of bodies and so without really thinking I went to help." Jason tells his mom how he came by his new abilities. The whole time his moms face stayed the same.
"I wish you'd have never gone to help that woman." She says sadly. "You're father was part of the group that the woman belonged to. They are what's known as the Vigilante Initiative. They are a group of pro hero's who fight and defeat villains using any means necessary. Even if it means killing the villain in question."
Jason stares at his mom in shock. There's no way his dad could be a part of something like that. His dad was always so happy. His mom continues speaking "Apparently the leader of the group possesses that book. And their powers are then stored in the book for future leaders to access. The Vigilante Initiative has been fighting a losing war for quite a few years. Ever since your father was killed actually. He was kind of the comedic relief that the group needed to keep morale up." She glances up and sees Jason's confused and pained expression. "I kept in touch with a few members before the left the group. And your father was still a good man. There are some fights that just can't be won without the death of the villain."
Tears come unwanted to Jason, streaming down his face. His father, a man he looked up to as the essence of a perfect hero, was a killer. Jason stormed off to his room his mother calling after him. But he didn't listen. He slams the door to his room and buries his face in his bed as he screams out his frustrations.
As he lay there for almost an hour his mom comes to the door and knocks. "Sweetie?" She pauses "I called your school and told them you weren't feeling well. You have the day off." She starts to walk away, then walks back "I love you son." And with that she walks off.
