Chapter 24 - Our sad stories

I walked out of the cave and soon arrived at the fresh-watered spring. I filled up all the water bottles and put them in my backpack.

I started walking back to the cave and when I entered I saw Seth sitting in front of the fire tearing up. I set down my backpack and sat down next to Seth. "What is wrong?" I asked.

"Fire brings back bad memories." He said.

"Ice does the same to me." I said back. He looked at me with a softened eyes and I smiled.

"What is your story?" He asked.

"I don't like to talk about it." I said turning away. I tear ran down my face and I started to sniffle.

"If I tell you mine will you tell me yours?" He said.

"Deal." I said facing him.

"When I was 12, I was in my house with my mom. She was working in her study and I was in my room. Then some sort of cloud visited me and somehow spoke to me. At the time I had no idea about the demigod world."

I sat silently listening to his story and showed all the respect I could.

"It said something along the lines that people will die in my hands and I had to get used to it."

Hearing this I went stiff. "What is wrong?" Seth asked.

I loosened up and said, "Nothing, go on."

"Okay, so..." he started and his eyes started to water. "The house went into flames, and I tried to get my mom out but it was too late. I got out in time, not like the fire would have killed me. My mom was gone and had been burnt to ashes. After that, my uncle didn't take me in and I was put in foster care. I ran away from every single one and soon Leto found me and guided me to camp."

"Leto?" I asked.

"The wolf goddess."

"I am sorry about your mom." I said rubbing his back. "But it will get better, especially since your surrounded by all your siblings."

"Ya, thanks." Seth replied blushing. "So now it is your turn. What is your story?"

"I was camping with my dad and my uncle when I was 5. The freaky thing is that someone said the same thing to you about people dying in my hands. Except mine was a ghost thing. Anyways, the women locked me and my uncle in a cave and it started to freeze over. I wasn't affected, but me uncle froze to death right in front of me." I started to cry and turned away embarrassed.

I continued saying, "At the time, and when I was growing up it made no sense how I survived. Now it does. At least my dad still kept me after basically murdering his brother."

I was shocked I actually told him, I have never told anyone about this, not even Evan.

Another tear rolled down my cheek and Seth held my chin to face me. He wiped the tear with his thumb and lightly brushed the side of my bottom lip. "You didn't murder him." Seth said in his soothing voice.

My face began to heat up from his touch, and my lips were trembling. I stared into his brown eyes and it looked like fire was dancing in them.

It was a very intense moment that reminded me about what happened with Jake in the cave near the beach. But this was different, it felt so much more genuine and not rushed.

I expected for him to pull away, but instead he reached in for a kiss. I was hesitant but let my lips touch his. My entire body began to tingle. The kiss only lasted for 2 seconds, and Seth turned away embarrassed. "Sorry." He said.

"I'm not." I said as if I was in a movie.

I grabbed his neck our lips met once again. This time, he put his hands on my waist and wrapped them around me making us closing the space between us. I have never had such an intimate moment with any guy before, and this was not what I expected at all. It was even better.

I was straddling him which if I was ever told about this I would gag thinking we were moving too fast. But in the moment it felt right.

We broke the kiss and he asked, "What about you and Jake?"

I automatically sat up and gave him a look of confusion. "What are you talking about. We aren't together if that is what you think." I got off and sat beside him.

"You can tell he likes you by the way he looks at you." He said disappointed.

"There is nothing going on between us." I ran my fingers through his hair making him smile.

"I'll take the first watch, you should get some sleep." Seth said smiling ear to ear.

"Okay, wake me up when it is my turn to watch."

Just like that, the moment was over, but I wasn't complaining.

I stood up and laid down on the dirt ground. Seth came over to me and gave me a pillow and blanket. 'How did he fit that in his backpack.' I thought. I decided not to ask him and I shut my eyes drifting off to sleep.
