Chapter 17 - A New Threat with a Demon

Meanwhile at the remains of the village that Vanessa had destroyed, a scouting party had arrived to investigate the destruction of the village. Met with such destruction the soldiers were awe stricken. "Spread out and look for any clues." Their commander ordered. "So, this is the work of the demon lord eh? Seems like our golden boy hero failed."

The soldiers searched but all they found was ash and charred remains. Until finally one soldier found a certain item. "Sir I found something!" He yelled. Followed closely by "Oh God!" and then vomiting.

"What did you find Soldier?" The commander asked. With that the soldier wiped his mouth of the vomit and placed the item into a cloth and brought it to the commander. When the commander opened the package, he was shocked. "What kind of sick monster burns a whole village and only leaves this behind? Where did you find it?" The commander asked.

"It was on top of a charred guard's corpse sir." The soldier responded. "We must ride immediately to the church and deliver our report." The commander placed the wrapped item in his satchel and rode off with his men back to the capital.

Back at the demon village Mia and Morain were making their way back through town towards Lucell's house after their training. Morain was still in shock about everything that Mia had told her. How the Goddess was an elemental and that there were more elementals other than just the Goddess. Vanessa saw them and decided to go say hello. "Oh, Sir Knight!" She yelled. "How was your training Sir Knight? Did you have fun?" Vanessa smiled. She then paused and got extremely close to Mia looking her over. "Oh, hi there Breezy what are you doing in Sir Knight?" Vanessa then stood there as if she was talking to someone in her head. "Ok, well I like Sir Knight, so you take good care of them!" Vanessa smiled again.

"Goddess, you know what happened with Mia today?" Morain asked.

"Well sure, it's easy to see old Breezy hanging out inside Sir Knight." Vanessa answered. "But don't worry Breezy would never hurt Sir Knight. He told me so himself!"

"Why didn't you tell us about the other elementals, Goddess?" Morain asked, wanting answers. She had known the Goddess for hundreds and years and had never heard anything about elementals.

"Oh, well you never asked." Vanessa said with a smile. "Anyways, I just wanted to check on Sir Knight, so I will be going back to my garden now. It was nice seeing you again Breezy!" Vanessa said as she left the area.

Morain and Mia continued their journey until they finally reached Lucell's house. When they arrived Morain knocked on the door. Lucell opened it immediately and upon sight of his queen kneels before her. "My queen it is an honor to see you." Lucell greeting Morain.

"Can it, Lucy." Morain commanded. "Stop being so formal all the time, I don't know how many times I have to tell you this. I swear it is like talking to a wall sometimes. Except the wall might listen."

"I am sorry my queen." Lucell said as he stood up. "I see you have concluded Miss Mia's training for the day." Lucell looked at Mia and smiled. "Welcome home Miss Mia."

"Yeah about that." Morain started to explain. "Let's head inside and I will explain everything." They all went inside Lucell's house and Morain explained everything as it had been explained to her. Mia jumped in as well to make sure Lucell got the whole picture.

"Oh, I see." Lucell paused. "That does change our entire way of thinking. At least about mages. As for the rest of us, we do get our power from the Goddess, so it does not really affect us much. Miss Mia, do you know if the other spirits will be contacting you as well?" Lucell asked.

"I don't know." Mia answered. She then heard of a voice in her head that sounded exactly like the wind spirit.

"They will most likely seek you out as I did." The spirit said.

"The wind spirit thinks so." Mia answered again.

"Miss Mia, can you ask the spirit if they are all of equal strength?" Lucell asked.

The spirit heard the question and gave the answer without Mia having to be the middleman. "Creation and Destruction rule above all, the other four elementals combined have the power of one of those two." Mia then relayed the message back to Lucell.

"So, as it stands you have around forth of the strength of the Goddess herself." Lucell replied. "That makes you quite the force to be reckoned with."

The spirit spoke to Mia again, "Young child of man, you are not strong enough yet to face what is coming your way. Even with my strength you will need more."

What do you mean spirit?" Mia asked forgetting that she was the only one that could hear it.

"The element of destruction rules mankind." The spirit answered. "Should you try and liberate humanity from their grasp you will need more power."

"But we have the Goddess on our side." Mia said to the elemental, Morain and Lucell just looking on wondering what was being said.

"The element of creation will not fight." The spirit explained. "That is not her way. When her creations are destroyed, she just moves on and creates more. She never fights for their existence."

"So was the element of destruction what killed all of her past creations?" Mia asked the spirit.

"Yes, as she enjoys to create, they enjoy to destroy." The spirit answered. "As we four elements of nature are all part of the coin, so are Creation and Destruction."

Mia wondered about how she would explain everything to Morain and Lucell. Finally, Morain spoke up. "From what I pieced together the element of destruction must be controlling the humans and you need to get stronger so that we can fight on equal terms since the Goddess herself won't fight. Is that the gist of it?" Morain asked.

"How did you get all that from just a few sentences?" Mia was puzzled.

"That's our queen!" Lucell shouted. "There's no demon or human smarter!"

"Well Mia, I suggest you just continue going to school, and learning everything you can." Morain explained. "IF the wind spirit thinks the others will contact you then they most likely will. Until then you just need to learn everything you can. As far as your training goes, I think the spirit will teach you more about magic then I could ever hope to, but it wouldn't hurt for you to learn hand to hand combat as well. So, I am going to put Sabrina back in charge of your combat training."

"Sounds like an excellent plan my queen." Lucell responded. "I will do my very best to take care of Miss Mia as well."

"Oh damn." Morain said. "I just realized I need to explain all of this to Jasper. Everything he has been teaching the kids about magic is wrong, so we have to get that fixed." Morain seemed lost in thought as she left.

"OK." Mia said out of the blue.

"Yes Miss Mia? Is there something I can help you with?" Lucell asked.

"The spirit said it wanted to experience a bath, so we should go take one." Mia explained. With that Mia and Lucell left to go take a bath. On the way there Mia shouted "REALLY?!"

"Miss Mia?" Lucell paused to see what Mia was up to. When he turned around Mia was sitting on the ground with her legs crossed, her eyes were closed, and her hands were on her knees. After a short time, wind could be felt all around Mia and she began to float in the air. "Miss Mia?!" Lucell shouted. "What are you doing?!"

With that Mia opened her eyes and saw that she was floating in the air. "Wow it works!" Mia shouted. "The element told me I could fly so I had to try it out Lucy." Mia said to Lucell.

"No one has never flown before!" Lucell was amazed. "This level of magic is unheard of, unspeakable even!"

"The elemental told me that this is only the beginning." Mia smiled as she continued to float, now hovering in a circle around Lucell.
