Opening the door, i saw Toyin, Mariam and a tied up...Sandra???. They entered my place quickly and i immediately shut the door.
"wha- whe- HOW?", Lost for words i could only ask "how"?, how exactly did they get here?, why such an unusual grouping?, and why was Sandra tied and gagged?!!!
Seeing my confusion, Toyin took a few minutes to compose himself before he started talking.
A DAY AGO
TOYIN POV
Leaving the lecture theater i tried to decide on where to go,
"Should I head straight to the hostel?, or should I hit the cafeteria first?",
Deciding on the cafeteria, I was on my way when the sky darkened for about 5 seconds, I didn't bother to look up, but my head felt strangely hot after, although It cleared up almost immediately,
"Ugh that was weird.....phew don't tell me I'm getting a fever or something?"
I kept thinking some trivial thoughts till a scream brought me back to reality, "AAAAAAAHH---"
The scream was cut short, looking to the side I saw why, A girls throat was gone, it looked like it was roughly gouged out, and the culprit was standing over her spasming body. Blood seemed to drip from the mouth of the person standing over her, 2 seconds later the surrounding students started screaming their heads off while I stood paralysed, I knew that girl, she took the same Advanced Programming class as me, and now she was dead, bleeding from her neck like a leaky fountain. A few guys tried to restrain the "person" and I swear I'd never seen a human move like that, his body twisting In unnatural ways, the person attacked and ripped out the throat of one of the guys, and bit 2 others on their hands, then I saw Its pitch black eyes lock onto someone else before chasing after them.
Like a switch was flipped in my head I immediately turned around and started running away from there, trying my best to get away from the hellish scene, but another scream made me stop and turn to look. The guys that had been bitten by that thing both slowly stood up before sniffing the air like dogs, When their eyes opened again, They were Pitch Black.
I'd run all the way to the cafeteria garden, thinking i wouldn't find anyone there right now, my first instinct was to find a place to hide that had enough food, Choosing a kiosk, i hid myself in it and locked the doors, it seemed the owners must've abandoned it in a panic.
Finally getting some time to think, i had to stop myself from laughing, i knew this wasn't the time or place, but the coincidence of it all was just too much: Zaheer and i had started talking about what we would do if a pandemic like the Corona Virus ever happened again, from there we started talking about zombie prepping and so we got into apocalypse prepping instead, it was all a big lucky coincidence.
Looking around for a usable weapon i noticed the wooden chair i was sitting on, getting to work, i broke 2 legs off it, these would have to do as my makeshift weapons for now, next i filled my side bag and filled it with some high energy snacks like chocolate and some biscuits, i also took a few bottles of water.
While i was preparing, a few minutes later, i heard a familiar voice, peeking through a gap in the door, i saw Sandra and an Unfamiliar girl running around with terrified looks on their faces.
"Hey Sandra, over here!" i called to her, trying to be as silent as possible, luckily she heard me, "
Toyin?" she replied with a confused look that turned into relief.
We were all squeezed into the tight kiosk, trying to be as quiet as possible, though i'm pretty sure Sandra could hear my heart beating extremely loudly,
"Fuuuuuuccck, she's so close to me, she smells so nice too, wait now's not the time for that" i thought. Sandra and the girl seemed quite terrified, and I hated seeing her like that, so of course i tried to calm them down. "Sandra, you can relax, you're safe now, Here have some water" i offered, she took at with shaky hands and couldn't open it, collecting it from her, i twisted the cap open before handing it back to her,
"t-thanks" she replied,
"you're welcome"
I waited until she'd calmed down a bit before i asked "what's happening out there now?".
The question seemed to terrify her as she looked close to tears, but forcing herself to calm down, she took deep breaths.
"Those "things" are running around the whole school, they keep attacking people and once they catch you they either bite you, or start ripping into you, Its pure Hell!!",
The expression on her face told me she wasn't exaggerating, but I'd already seen firsthand the way that disease was spread, This was definitely going to be worse than the Corona virus.
"Phew" i slowly exhaled, turning to the other girl, i realized she hadn't spoken a single word since getting here, she just kept mute and sobbed silently, i tried comforting her and she immediately threw herself into my arms, buried her face into my shirt and started crying while i awkwardly froze, not sure where to put my hands.
After a while she ended up calming down and introduced herself as Lucy, a visiting high school student who came to see her big sis, Sandras expression of Sadness and pity told me all i needed to know,
seems like she didn't make it...
We ended up spending the night right there in the kiosk, as tight as it was none of us made a single sound even when sleeping, although i stayed awake the whole night.
The next morning the two girls woke up, looking confused for a few seconds before remembering what situation they were in. I'd pretty much come up with a plan over the night so i told them the entire thing...We were getting the fuck off this campus....
