Magic beasts are creatures that go against the laws of the world. As all should be in be in balance, however the magic beasts break the peace of the world by taking and not returning. The source of the mana is a major element of the laws of the world, as almost all creatures live off mana to survive or use it to hunt for food, but the magic beasts have ruined the balance. Magic beasts are blessed, birthed from the source themselves, granted great magic prowess.
Once born magic beasts rip a strain of the source for themselves in order to sustain their bodies in the world, as they are born from pure mana. Usually the amount taken from the source is minimal, naturally the stronger and more talented beasts are able to seize a larger piece of the source for themselves but it is normally still within acceptable ranges to allow the source to keep exsisting. Nevertheless sometimes there are singularities, where the source is weakened due to the birth of a truly powerful magic beast, they are called magic beast kings and recently the fourth known magic beast king was born and the source of mana buckled and magic was severely weakened allowing only the truly talented mages to partake in the art.
Often called the "country of magic" - Agon was the peak of magic technology and magic military might, with some of the greatest mages and constantly emerging mage progidies. Once the source of mana was weakened many facilities and important areas of the country which had its power directly connected to the source of mana had shut down, leaving the country in a declining state as only powerful mages could use magic, and talented mages could learn how to adapt to the situation.
Neighbouring Agon was Nerin, a country that had made its mark in the field of engineering and was currently making research into the storage and preservation of mana as their trademark, the body-mechs ran off of mana crystals which were high density mana that would slowly leak out through time. Nerin was suppressed by Agon, during their golden-age with the emergence of powerful grandmages Aldor and Evys, and they had their territories taken until they surrendered. The weakening of the source of mana made the mana of the world much more docile and unwilling to leave mana crystals, allowing the researchers of Nerin to make a breakhrough after sometime. Out of the blue the king of Nerin - Godefray the relentless - made a demand for a large amount of territories including the territories that were taken before.
Bordering both Agon and Nerin is Sedor, a small country housing both Nerin's manasteel mines and Agon's meditation sanctuary, a place where they send young mages to reach breakthroughs in their studies, and Sedor is the place we are starting our story.
