Chapter 3 - Volume 1 - Chapter 3

The receptionist said "Hand over your license and i'll mark it for you." though she didn't recommend for him to take the mission, she couldn't refuse him as he met the glory requirement so she just marked his license and let Xavier go. Xavier left the hideout quite confidentally, making his past the gate and out of town towards his home. Reaching his shoddy shack, he entered through the creaky wooden door, and reached under his rickety bed.

"It should still be here" Xavier thought. Under his bed was where Xavier put his most expensive belonging, which he hadn't taken out because sometimes an odd beggar from outside the town would come by his house when wandering looking for places to beg and he was afraid that they would steal it while he slept. Xavier was quite experienced in hunting, and thus quite confident in fighting with his superior reaction time and speed to normal people but he couldn't keep himself constantly aware of his surroundings as he slept. After sometime of searching the dark underside of the rickety bed he pulled out a shiny dagger. This was a energy dagger, energy weapons were weapons that reacted to someones energy and usually became harder after being infused with some. Energy was what a warrior cultivated, of course in essence it was just an alternate type of mana that could be infused with the body however once the energy in the body becomes sufficient, the body can begin to produce energy by itself becoming a source of energy. While warriors where technically a different type of magician(mages), they didn't have to learn to command mana from the source of mana, while magicians had to study in order to control mana outside of their body properly. Despite all of this mages are still considered more powerful, mana was generally more powerful than energy, the amount they controlled was more and they weren't limited to a single type of element - as warriors had to produce a source of energy it will be of one element, some might not even be of an element-

Taking the energy dagger, he slid it into a leather sheath he made from a beast he'd hunted, and he placed on the belt that he bought today. Xavier then left his shack and after taking a look at his warrior license he travelled towards the east, the mark placed on his license shows the location of the mission that he took. Though nightfall, the most dangerous time, was upon him Xavier didn't stop travelling because he was still relatively close to the town, where one wouldn't find any dangerous magic beasts. The most dangerous magic beast he could find in the area was probably a lesser greyhound, grey was a family of magic beasts each ones children or distant relatives of the magic beast king Greydevil who was known as the second magic beast king. The magic beast family 'grey' was originally a demonic beast family but due to pure bloodline descrimination, lesser beasts were cast away with them breeding[1] with other creatures eventually the family became mixed, with the 'grey' family having things from avian beast to even sea monsters. As descendants, even distant ones, greyhounds and greyrats are powerful when it came to unintelligent magic beasts found in the wild and greyhounds were known for the violent way they hunt and their almost incomaprable bloodlust when it came to unintelligent beasts, the reason you could only find lesser greyhounds in the area was beacuse the signs of a greater greyhound was all too clear and the Brotherhood would immediately send out at least 50 glory warriors from the nearby areas.

As Xavier travelled through the forest that could be considered shaded even at night with the lack of light, he reached upon a malformed tree in the middle of an open area devoid of other trees. The trees trunk was twisted all the way up to the upper branches that were devoid of leaves and looked pitch-black and ashen, the lower branches still contained leaves, albeit ones made up of completely ash. The tree completely lacked growth-rings despite two large ones forming cavities in the 'face of the tree' and between the two cavities lied a nose-like twig. As Xavier moved closer towards the tree, a smile split from the trunk showing a toothy grin, arms split from the trunk with sharp claws on each hand and the ashen leaves and branches lit ablaze.

Xavier swore to himself "F**k it's a demon beast"
