Chapter 11 - Red Demons

"Th-ank you"

"Don't mention it, without you I would have for sure died in this monster ridden Dungeon."

By the time Mennok was awake his injuries had already been healed and stamina fully regenerated. He noticed that his once ripped clothes had returned to their pristine condition. But before he could think of how his once torn clothes had reverted to their original self, Jenny chimed in.

"Basic Self Repair. That's what changed the clothes. I know because I have that enchantment on my clothes as well. It can repair almost any tear or rip which saves me from going to the tailors shop and spending money on it to get it fixed."

"Are you all better now? We need to get moving."

"Y-yeah."

"The han-d. Where?"

"Its wrapped in my bag."

"Ok."

"Now to find the safest route possible. I don't think we should go towards the direction from where the Lobrok came from as there's probably more of them. We went through that left tunnel and found the stone chest, but we didn't venture any further because we had to go back and get Jonathan's hand."

"Jon-nathan?"

"Yeah...that's his name."

"Enough chit chat, let's go back to the chest and see where we can go from there. I'll go on ahead while you go and grab your lodged weapon. Don't worry if I find trouble I'll just use Stealth " She left towards the tunnel intersection, her figure slowly disappearing into the shadows.

Mennok walked over to the Lobrok carcass and put both hands on the pommel of the sword and pulled, making it only move slightly. He put his foot next to the sword while grabbing it with both hands and pushed, finally freeing it from the corpse.

Jenny was right. He really needed a better sword. While it did wonders against the skeletons, it had fared much worse against the Lobrok. It's broken blade massively decreased it's reach while the rust made it weaker. He had to stab the creature in the head many times for it to die, which cost him quite a lot of Health.

He couldn't waste anytime thinking about it now however, as Jenny was getting further by the minute. He could only hope to find something better in this Dungeon or at least when he left. Leaving the Dungeon. I wonder what is outside the Dungeon he thought to himself.

He jogged towards Jenny's direction, minutes later reaching where she was.

"You're here. Let's go into the tunnel then." The Duo proceeded into the darkness and Jenny lit up the area with her spell. They arrived at the chest, noticing that it had been moved from its original place and the lid was open.

"Someone or something was here." said Jenny. Mennok unsheathed both blades and looked at his surroundings. They saw a small hole in the ground, just about large enough to fit them. "I think they came from that way. From now on we'll need to stay on guard." Mennok nodded. He wore a serious and creepy expression, looking even more creepier by the fact that he didn't have any skin.

They approached the hole, Mennok taking the lead. He knelt down and looked inside the hole, nothing. He jumped down into it and then helped Jenny down.

What they found was what looked to be an entire new level. The walls this time went back to being stone brick walls rather than the cave walls of the level above. The roof was much lower, only reaching to about 3 metres tall. The distance between each side of the wall was much smaller, only being 1.5 meters wide.

"At least we know we won't be facing the Lobrok anytime soon." There's was only one way to go from there which was forward. Mennok walked ahead, peaking at the corners to check if it was clear of any danger. Mennok was walking through a torch lit corridor that he had just checked for any danger. As he was walking he steppee on an almost invisible wire and then a small bell rang. Suddenly he heard a scream behind him, he turned around to see that Jenny was being dragged through a small section of the wall which turned out to be a camouflaged trapdoor.

He put his weapons into his belt and then grabbed Jenny by her arms, pulling hard. He felt an opposing force tugging from the other side, trying to drag the human with it. He pulled harder this time, noticing that the grip in the other side had loosened, giving him a chance to pull Jenny up.

"What the fuck is that! I felt a bunch of hands grabbing me by the legs and pulling me down." So it was more than just one. Mennok kicked the trapdoor open and took a look inside. He was met with a dozen red eyes gazing back at him. He pulled out his weapons ready to attack in case the things attacked him but they slowly fades back into the darkness.

"What did you see?"

"E-eyes. Many."

"Thanks for savi-"

"Shhhh. Can hear us."

Mennok started walking forward, this time kicking low at the walls to check for any trapdoors. Jenny did the same just in case Mennok had accidentally missed one. After kicking at the walls for around ten minutes they had realised that the trapdoors came at intervals of 12 meters, however they still kicked the wall every meter just to make sure. Every now and then a pair of red hands would jump out which would be avoided by Mennok and Jenny or stomped on. Mennok wanted to find out what they looked like but the only thing that he could see was their hands, so he decided that the next time one tried to ambush him he would let it grab his legs and then kill it. After a while of kicking one of the things had finally emerged and grabbed Mennok's right leg. He brought his knife down on its left hand, pinning it down so that it had no chance of escape. He pulled the creature out of the trap door and lifted it up from the shoulders. The thing looked hideous. It had sharp nails both on its feet and hands with a dark red skin colour. It had broken jagged teeth and bright red eyes as well as 2 horns on its head. It looked to be about 1.5 meters tall but it was surprisingly light.

The creature now exposed, thrashed with its legs and hands, trying to get away from the grasps of the intruder. Mennok grabbed it's left horn and pulled, breaking it off with ease and then throwing it away. He grabbed it's face and then slammed it onto the wall, cracking open its skull.

[You have Slain level 8 Greater Imp]

(Greater Imp)

[Description: a denizen of the underworld, these red Demons are only found in Dungeons. Despite their small and weak figure, they are more intelligent than the average monster and when working in packs can set up traps for any unlucky adventurers to fall into. The Greater Imp is usually the pack member that ambushes the intruder, due to its strength exceeding a Lesser Imp's.]

Mennok tossed the motionless Imp onto the ground and walked past it, continuing with the wall kicking routine. Jenny stopped to look at the Imp corpse and saw how its skull had been cracked. She quickly caught up with Mennok in case there were any more incoming attacks.

A few Greater Imp's and a dozen Lesser Imp's later Mennok recieved a notification.

[Level up!]

The third level up after evolving. He needed to find somewhere safe first where he could apply his attribute point, so for now he kept moving. After he had levelled up, The Imp's had stopped appearing from the trapdoors but they had to be cautious so they continued the kicking. This went on for quite a while until the walls separated and the more familiar cave walls took over.

While Mennok was checking to see if there were any Imp's nearby Jenny had found a rock whixh they could behind and avoid being detected. After Mennok double-checked there was nothing nearby, he layed on the rock and opened up his status.

He felt his muscles expand slightly and his stamina and Health pool increase which came with a soothing feeling. He watched as Jenny propped her back against the slanted rock and dozed off to sleep. He couldn't sleep anyways so he decided to take watch.
