Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Who's coming to dinner?

"He sounded so angry. He said 'I thought there was an older girl?! Where the fuck is she?' and then my door slammed. I stayed on that lattice for so long making sure they were gone before climbing back into my window." Aidens eyes softened as his heart started hurting for her. He put a hand on her shoulder to give her some strength while she relived these moments.

"After a while I heard the front door close and a car leave. So I climbed into my window to see what was going on. I never thought that I would ever see something so horrible in my life" Tessa stared at the floor. Replaying the events in her head and trying to find the words to express her tragedy.

"I slowly walked to my door and opened it to peek out. I saw no one so I quickly got to my sister's room and closed the door. I knew something was wrong the moment I entered the room. I turned around and saw my sister sleeping on her bed. I tried to wake her to make sure she was okay and noticed that she had a stab wound in the side of her neck and she lost so much blood."

Tessa trembled as an imagine of her baby sister flashed into her head. Her sweet Teresa was gone.

"I went to find my dad and Stella. I found Stella the same way as Teresa, looking like she was sleeping. My dad was not so lucky. He was in his study tied to his office chair with is throat slit" Tessa choked out that last part before she couldn't continue.

Aiden sat there speechless for a while taking in the information Tessa had just given him. He looked at the girl sitting in front of him and wondered how she could be so strong. As he admired her, he noticed her yawn.

"Would you like to get some rest? I'm sure you're exhausted and some rest will do you some good. You're safe here, I was supposed to be gone all weekend so I don't have to work. I can take you up and get you settled in my room" Aiden stood up and began turning everything off for the night. Tessa watched him with sleepy eyes.

"Where will you sleep?" she asked.

"I can sleep on the couch, I want you to be comfortable."

Tessa felt an overwhelming need to be close to him, that he was her only protection from the evils outside of this cabin.

"Um, I was wondering if it was okay with you..." Tessa looked at the floor partially embarrassed to be so forward and also a little scared of his rejection. She looked up and saw his green eyes staring back at her full of kindness and concern. With the doubt momentarily out of her mind, she decided to just ask.

"Would you mind staying in your room with me?"
