Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Jacquard had discovered magic by accident. He had been recovering from the barrage of when he received another notification.

[Science point +1]

'What in memphis' name was that?' The voice asked confused.

'I don't know.' Jacquard replied in his head. 'But that aside, who are you?'

'Who am I?' The voice replied. 'Who are you?'

'Me?' Jacquard replied. 'I'm Jacquard.' Immediately the words left his mouth Jacquard immediately felt his entire being resonate with the word. 'Woah!' he cried. 'That was weird.'

The voice hmphed. 'You even have a name.'

'Yeah so,' Jacquard replied, 'What of it? Don't you have a name yourself?'

The voice hesitated before it responded. 'Not really.'

Jacquard almost laughed, then he realized the voice was being serious and he stopped himself. 'You're serious?' he asked.

'No,' the voice said sarcastically, 'I would definitely joke about something that important.'

Jacquard huffed. 'If it's such a big deal, why don't I just give you a name myself?'

The voice paused for a moment. 'Are you serious? You'll give me a name?'

'Why not, what does it take to do so?'

The voice hesitated but spoke in the end. 'Fine then, go ahead and name me.'

Jacquard thought for a while before he spoke. 'I'll name you…' He stopped in his tracks. 'Wait are you a male or a female?'

'Male.' The voice replied immediately. 'What does it matter?'

'No reason,' Jacquard replied, 'But I've got your name now.'

'Yes. And what is it?' the voice asked expectantly.

'Your name shall be Jean.' Immediately the words were thought by Jacquard he felt energy leave from his body and another dialogue box appeared before him.

[Accomplishment achieved]

[Successfully name two individuals]

[Lose access to science]

[Gain access to magic]

[Gain the ability to sense energy particles]

[Current range of senses: 2 cm]

Jacquard saw the notification and almost swore. Why the hell did he go and discover magic after he had already memorized the path he would have chosen with his available points. He sighed and turned his attention back to the newly named Jean.

'So, Jean,' he began, 'How do you like your new name?'

'To be honest,' Jean began, 'I was expecting something else.' Jacquard wished he could have been able to strangle him right then and there. 'But I guess it's okay.'

'What do you mean by it's okay?' Jacquard questioned, and he could already picture (as well as one could without actually picturing it) Jean shrugging as he heard the reply.

'I mean just that. It's okay.'

'Oh,' Jacquard pushed on, 'It's okay? What name would you have given yourself then?'

Jean kept quiet.

'Yeah that's what I thought.'

'So,' Jean asked pushing back his supposed embarrassment to continue the conversation, 'What did that thing tell you this time?'

'Nothing much.' Jacquard replied. 'It just told me that I could now sense energy particles.'

'And you haven't begun to play with that why?'

'Well to be straightforward, because I have been talking with you.'

'You can't use me as an excuse anymore.' Jean said in a matter-of-factly tone.

And Jacquard questioned him back. 'Why?'

'Because,' Jean replied, 'I am going to sleep.'

'What!?' Jacquard asked only to receive no answer. He then proceeded to spend the next few minutes checking if Jean was awake, only to be severely disappointed.

Jacquard sighed and decided to focus on other things-namely the new ability he was granted, which was the ability to sense energy particles. While the range was so minute as to not even attribute it as a proper ability Jacquard soon found himself unable to stop playing with it.

He could see the tiny particles that filled what he assumed to be the air around him, moving to and fro with out having any particular direction it was going in. Yet despite all of this he couldn't seem to 'see' the energies in what he assumed was the ground below him. It seemed to be completely devoid of any energy particles. He thought it was because of the fact that it was an inanimate object, at least until he made an interesting discovery.

With the ability to sense energy particles, came with it a different perspective of viewing things. He realized that he could see himself, from whatever angle he wished, at whatever level of zoom he wished, even down to the smallest particle that made up his body. And what he saw was amazing. Jacquard saw his body as a container devoid of almost any form of energy. There was a circle of condensed energy at his center and a few channels that were filled with trickles of energy that flowed towards the energy at his center, it was completely devoid of the rampant energy that flowed around him.

Even the energy within him was vastly different from the energy that flowed boisterously outside and this severely intrigued Jacquard, who began to hunger to know the why and how. And he soon he got his answer.

The word soon was used not because of the fact that it happened quickly, but because of the fact the Jacquard had no method to use to measure time, and with how enthralled he was by the energies, time seemed to flow quickly away, before his very eyes.

But fortunately, the time was put to good use. Jacquard had not only managed to increase the range of his senses (it happened by mistake while he was looking to see if he could find any other type of energy apart from his own and the ambient energy. He didn't), he also found several differences between the ambient energy and his own (The first was simple, ambient energy was ever flowing while his stored energy was stagnant. Another one included the fact that ambient energy was extremely diluted, while the one that was stored in him was a bit more concentrated. Among others) as well as how the energy was transformed from its ambient form to the form it was stored in (It was nothing to specific, just the fact that the ambient energy passed through several 'filter' like things he really couldn't identify before it turned into its stored form) and while he couldn't artificially cause the process to happen, Jacquard was sure that if he was given enough time he would be able to do so.
