Chapter 58 - Not A Hero And Not Your Hero

"You turn down my offer, just so you could work with guards like her?" Arisa asked.

Katsuya nodded, and verbalized how he felt about it all.

"Honestly, you're just some psychopath. You try to justify your motives when your motives don't even make a lot of sense to begin with. I'm glad i didn't join up with you. Also, the day of the attack, one of your men had a friend of mine as a hostage. So, went ahead and beat them down."

Arisa's smile faded and was replaced with a look of anger and disgust.

"Ugh. People like you make me sick. You do this and that and act like you're some sort of hero. This isn't some movie or kids cartoon. Wake up and realize my side is the right side."

Katsuya shrugged as he chuckled.

"Hero? Not even close. I'm just a guy who hates monsters. Yeah, I hope that explains why I hate you?"

"Hate? What an ugly word."

"Right. Let me correct myself. 'Dislike'. I intensely dislike you very much a lot."

Harley interrupted them, asking Katsuya a question.

"Excuse me, but who are you? And how do you know that psychotic woman?"

She knew she'd seen this dark-haired boy before, but from where? She was still too focused on everything else that her mind wouldn't allow her to remember.

"I'm just an adventurer. And, I don't necessarily know her. I only met her because she kinda had me kidnapped once."

"Well alright. Anyway, thank you for showing up when you did. It probably saved my life."

Stomp!

Arisa smashed her foot onto the floor, followed by rapid insults.

"Disgusting! Disgusting! Disgusting! DISGUSTING! Dis-gust-tang."

Waving her hand around, she continued.

"He saves you and now you're in love. I suppose even you even have a desire to find a lover."

The more Katsuya and Harley heard the words of Arisa, it seemed more and more pointless to continue speaking. So, it was about time for them to wrap things up.

"I think I'm ready to put her down now," said Katsuya.

Sora gripped the handle to her blade and replied "I am with you."

"Yeah, she talks a lot. She's too much of a bi-" Harley stopped herself from finishing the sentence and coughed before rephrasing the sentence.

"I mean, she's annoying and really needs a beating."

"I've heard curse words before, you know?" Katsuya replied.

Arisa laughed as she took a step back, grabbing a hold of Hades's shirt.

"You three won't be fighting me. ME and this guy are going to leave. You'll be dealing with other opponents."

"What do you mean?!" Harley asked.

But she was the only one who needed to ask this. Sora and KAtsuya already noticed what was happening.

Katsuya's glance could see multiple people hiding on a roof, waiting to jump down. He then glazed to his other side, same thing. There were over at least 37 people waiting to come out and fight them.

"She means, her helpers are here?" said Katsuya?

"What?!" Harley looked around, and she too noticed the lots of people coming out from cover, coming close and surrounding them.

Katsuya shook his head and spoke out loud to Arisa's underlings.

"I'll say this once. I don't care about how eak any of you are. I'm going to hurt anyone who comes at us. You have one chance to leave."

It was risky going against this many people, especially because humans were smarter than monsters. So, he was going to fight hard. Even if he tried not to kill any, he was most likely going to kill a few on accident.

One of the men ran forward but was quickly kicked into the air by Harley.

"As for me, I won't hurt you. I quickly kill anyone who comes at us."

KAtsuya wanted to say something like "We just need to hurt them, not kill." or "Killing them on purpose would be going too far." but, he couldn't bring himself to say anything. It's not like he was a hero. At any moment, his monster instinct could kick in and he would slaughter any opponent without mercy, so he wasn't one to talk. Instead, he accepted her way of thinking.

Giving Sora a nodd, Katsuya gave her an order.

"Sora, try not to kill any. Though, I won't get mad if you accidentally do."

"Understood. I'll do my best."

Her sentence would have sounded better if she said, "I'll do my best not to."

It was a small detail at the moment, so Katsuya didn't care much about correcting her.

Shouts of adrenaline shook the air as the men rushed at them.

Katsuya took a step forward and his body slightly shook for a second before stopping. Every enemy that surrounded him fell to the floor, unconscious.

"And that was ten hits in a single second."

Bonk! Shatter.!

A hard peice of wood smashed against the back of his head and blew into pieces. It didn't even have near enough force to move Katsuya or even cause any pain. Instead, it felt as if pillows could flick a person.

He turned around and glared at the men who had hit him who then tried to run off.

"I already gave you a chance before you attacked. It's too late now."

As the man tried to escape, Katsuya delivered a firm kick to his back, knocking the man against a wall.

"Now we're even."

He was done dealing with his share of enemies. When he looked back at Sora and Harley, he was able to keep a calm face, even after seeing the scene of slaughter. Sora had dealt with her opponents without killing them, but Harley's opponents laid on the floor in puddles of blood. Some were missing limbs and some were just blown to bits, scattered across the floor. Only a few were still intact.

Blood from the deceased criminals dripped from Harley's blood gloves.

"I guess that takes care of it."

Everything was handled. There was no longer for Katsuya to hang around, doing so wouldn't have any real meaning to it.

He walked past Harley, saying "I'm going to head off."

But, he was roughly stopped as Harley grabbed a hold of his shoulder.

"Hm? What is it?" Katsuya asked.

His heart pounded like the walking of boots on wooden steps. His eyes widened greatly. Unexpectedly, Harley leaned in and kissed his cheek.

Smooch.

Katsuya jumped away in panic, responding loudly.

"W-what the?! What the heck! Are you okay?! Don't go kissing random people like that!"

HArley frowned and looked away from him, explaining her strange actions.

"Relax, don't get all excited. You see, I'm from a kingdom in the alternate world. It's how we greet and thank people where I'm from. We also use it to say goodbye."

"Goodbye? Are you going to kill me or something?"

"Huh? Are you slow or something? I mean it as a thank you."

Katsuya nodded, in understandment. "Oh. Okay."

The kiss did catch him by surprise but, he wasn't all too excited or happy about it. Too him, it was just 'Whatever'

"If I may, I'd like to know your name." said Harley.

Katsuya hesitated to answer at first, but gave in.

"...My name is Katsuya."

He had done his part and even answered her question. Katsuya felt it was time for him to leave. His body turned away and his footsteps steadily brought him away. Other than the sound of his footsteps, the only sound was Harley's voice, saying the words of "I hope to see you again."

Pondering the words, Katsuya thought to himself 'Again? We're not friends or anything. I only saved you because it was the right thing for the moment. I am no hero and I'm definitely not your hero.'
