Chapter 4 - Blind Date Stand-In

"Seoyeon! Please help me!"

Han Seoyeon was still in the middle of taking out another bed for Wan Seulgi when she suddenly heard a scream. Running from the other side of her room, she thought that Seulgi fell but saw her frozen on the bedside with her phone in her hand.

"What happened?" She asked, shifting her eyes around but saw nothing out of place.

"This!" Wan Seulgi showed her phone for her to read.

She walked nearer, squinting her eyes, and read aloud what she saw. "Today at seven p.m. you must attend a blind date. Remember do not flunk out or miss the date!- This, is it from your father?" She faced up to see Seulgi nodding.

"I think he heard that I broke up with my boyfriend." Seulgi sighed and flopped to the bed. "How could he do this?! I just got my heart broken, he's so insensitive! Fucking old man, I will never attend his funeral if he died!" She cussed her heart out, turning her face to a pillow and muffled her grumbling and curses.

Seoyeon stood there scratching her head, not knowing what she should say in this situation, and patted her head. "Why don't you try attending once? Who knows perhaps you will find someone perfect for you."

"What perfect? I will never ever go!" Seulgi sobbed at her pillow. Seeing the stain, Seoyeon noted that she must to buy another cover for her pillow.

"If your father recommends him, he must be a very good and stable person, don't you think?" Seoyeon persuaded her again.

Seulgi shook her head. "That isn't the problem, Seoyeon. Attending the blind date isn't a problem at all. But, I made a bet with him."

"With your father? What bet?" Seoyeon tilted her head to the side and saw her friend gripping to the pillow firmly.

"That I could find someone perfect for me without attending his marriage meeting!" Wan Seulgi could still remember how determined she was to never attend her father's marriage meeting or blind dates. She had always had a hostile to blind dates.

Just because she's the only daughter of Wan Family, her father had taken the offer of many meetings for her as a bridge to smoothen the road for his company's relationship. For such a reason, her father shoved her and it enraged her.

"I know that I'm his only daughter, but why does he have to do this to me? Just for the sake of his company he wants to throw his daughter to meet an unknown man! What if the person who came only act like a proper gentleman when inside he's a scumbag? That old man!" Seulgi cried out, muffling her cries again with the poor pillow.

"Just try once, who knows if he is actually a good person and why are you so against of blind dates, anyway?" Seoyeon tired to lift her friend's spirit and ease her cries, but her friend was stubborn on this matter.

"I don't want a loveless marriage!" Seulgi pursed her lips. "If the man gives an 'okay' to the blind meeting, no matter what I have to say they will wed me off to him! I don't want that." she sobbed again. Seulgi detested a loveless marriage the most because she had seen how her aunt suffered from it.

That was what she was thinking all this time, Seoyeon thought to herself, feeling sympathy to her friend's situation and cheered her up. "Alright! Then you don't have to go."

"I also want to do that but I can't-" Seulgi sighed and explained, "I made a bet with him if I currently don't have a boyfriend, I must attend the blind date."

Seoyeon raised her brow, what a very weird father and daughter combination, she thought to herself.

"What should I do, Seoyeon?" Seulgi raised her head with a kicked puppy face, raising Han Seoyeon's empathy.

Han Soeyeon hummed for a long time and tapped her chin to come up with an idea. "Let's see, perhaps you should act like a crazy person or a stupid person and do something that the person you're going to meet hate? For example, punching him or cursing at him without a reason?"

"Punching him will get me a ticket to the police station, Seoyeon." Seulgi reminded and rolled to the bed. "But it's not as if I never tried that. Instead, I tried it all that too much and it doesn't work anymore. Now all the men that my father set up a blind date with me knew that I will act like that and still come nevertheless. They'll just keep up with the blind date for the sake of their appearance and pride, and also because their company needs my father's help."

"Then...?" Seoyeon tilted her head and suddenly Seulgi sat on the bed to snap her fingers.

"I have an idea but I need your help."

Seoyeon felt like she could give a guess to Seulgi's thoughts but still asked, "What help?"

"Please become my stand-in!" Seulgi's voice pierced the silent room.

Seoyeon gave a stupefied face, turning into an ice block to repeat her words. "Stand in?"

"Yup!" Seulgi deliriously nodded, still a little affected by her drunkenness, and thus continue to speak without thinking rationally. "Go on the blind date on my behalf and reject him!"

"No you don't have to repeat it I can understand but that's impossible." Seoyeon sat beside her and continued, "Your father could see through our act, and what if the person knows wouldn't they feel offended and accuse your father of something unfavorable?"

"But I don't want to meet anyone now." Wan Seulgi replied weakly. She was still fresh after her break up and meeting someone knows only made her mood even worsen. "I don't want to bring this up cuz I must sound very much like a scukbag right now but Seoyeon, will you attend the blind date in my stead?"

Han Seoyeon shook her head. "You drank too much that you're talking nonsense now. Go and sleep."

"Two hundred thousand won." Wan Seulgi named a number with her puffy eyes.

"Sleep."

"Three hundred thousand won." Wan Seulgi pleaded again like an old woman sitting to bet money in a mahjong table.

"Al-" Han Seoyon was about to say "Alright" without thinking twice. Quickly she praised herself for controlling her loose mouth.

Han Seoyeon was an orphan, no parents with a little brother she doted lovingly. Right at the moment, she had no money or so whatsoever for her dear little brother who is still attending the university to become a great doctor and to note, she have her apartment rent, gas, water, her daily necessities multiply by two for her brother, meaning, currently her money is in a red line. Bold red line! Hearing the amount her friend gave, she almost agreed without any hesitation.

That was one of the reason, the other one is after seeing her friend beaten up by her break up, Han Seoyeon didn't have the heart to see her bright friend to become more dejected and gave in. "Alright, I'll go in your stead and reject him cleanly."

Wan Seulgi looked up at her friend with a healed expression, "Really?"

"Just for this once, remember." Han Seoyeon reminded to have her friend jumping to hug her.

"Thank you!!!" Seulgi cried, saying thank you instead of sorry as she knew her friend dislikes the word sorry.

Han Seoyeon patted her shoulder with a gentle smile. "Just don't be too down anymore and let's sleep I'm deadly tired."
