Chereads / Killing Lamia / Chapter 3 - Left Behind

Chapter 3 - Left Behind

My eyes were watching the fire spread across the inside of the warehouse. We were able to free everyone. But, there wasn't enough time. Lamia's people will be here shortly. I managed to persuade those who stayed with us to do one last thing. We drove the trucks into the building. I had one plan and if it went wrong then this was all for nothing. There was one last truck remaining. I would set off the fuse. I was about to climb into the truck but Andrew grabbed my arm and pinched a nerve. I whimpered as I looked towards him. What's his problem?

"Go ahead," I whispered to Andrew. "Get out of here while you still can." My eyes landed on the people leaving us. The remaining werewolves were getting the hell out of here. He should be doing the same.

"No- No I can't leave you here. I promised your brother I would look after you."

"Andrew do you want to live?"

"Y-yes, don't you?"

"If you want to live then go! If I came with you I would just slow you down. We would both be caught and killed. Do you want that? It's too late to keep his promise. I'm making a new one. Promise me you'll look after my sister."

"Look after her yourself!" He shouted at me as he forced me away from the truck. He climbed in it then and locked the door. I tried to open it before realizing what he had done.

"Andrew!" I yelled at him as I banged on the door. "What are you doing?!" I asked frantically. This was my plan. This is what I wanted. I want to die the warrior. He's taking my place!

"I'm sorry... I promised your brother."

"What did you promise?! You were only tasked with getting me out of the castle. You don't have to do this," I cried out as I banged on the window to try to break it. "Why would you do this?" I whined out as I eyed over his body. He looked into my eyes but his were dead inside. I could see how much he wanted this too. Lamia had took any hope he had for a future and pissed it all away. He didn't want to live. This was an opportunity he was going to steal. He could die without her bringing him back. He would be at peace. No longer dreading her shadows. He wasn't doing this for me. It was for himself.

Andrew had already stuck the keys into the ignition. The truck started to move and I ran with it. I couldn't keep up as my leg slowed me down. Finally I tripped and found myself landing on my face. I whined as I watched the truck speed in towards the warehouse. I looked up fast as I caught the vehicle drop off as it went over the edge. It would tumble to the bottom floor.

Andrew is only human. His afterlife is different from mine. He will not run with the moon goddess. He will not be anything when he dies. I watched as the vehicle exploded. The inside beginning to go up in flames. It didn't take much longer as things began to go off inside. The warehouse would explode as the cars were attacked by the heat wave. I had to cover my head as metal flung out the doors. I could hear the siren of the town go off as they must have caught on to what's happening here.

"YOU SELFISH BASTARD!" I would scream as I found myself fueled with anger. I forced myself up. I can't stay here. I have to run. I have to try to get away before Lamia finds me. I took off to the woods. Mid-run I shifted into my wolf. I forced him to come out as I couldn't stand the pain of shuffling on two legs. Now I was able to distribute the pain amongst four. I could run fast now.

I was scared. The thought of being caught once more in Lamia's web was enough to make me wonder off the cliffs. I would fight a mountain lion before going back to her. I found myself running at full speed. The pain no longer occurring to me. I picked up on the stench of blood as I slowed down my pace. I was afraid as I didn't want to stumble across anymore death. I paused amongst the brush as I heard whimpering. The scent of an injured wolf hit me as I recognized the scent of an Alpha. There was also the faded scent of a pack border I've been across. Blacktail Growlers. It must be their Alpha. I hunkered down as I decided to spy before approaching.

'Watch out little Cole... If what Mabel and Artemis said is true then he's a traitor.'

'Traitor or not... We are all on the same side... Are we not?'

Artemis is right to my mind. No matter what happened we are all one with the moon goddess. We should be looking out for each other. If he needs help I'm obligated to try. I pushed past the brush when I was determined he'd be alone. It was unnatural as I stared down at the poor Alpha that was gnawing at his leg to try to get it free from a trap. The metal piece was cutting in deep to his leg. He looked like an animal instead of a mortal. He stopped as he noticed me approaching. We both growled until I made it obvious I was here to help. Without the right keys we would have to dig up a stake that was dug deep in the earth.

His only answer was to gnaw his leg off?! I would have started digging! I caught the familiar poison smell of wolfsbane. Worry grew in the back of my mind as I knew it would restrain the Alpha's body from healing. It was also something I knew would be driving him mad enough to chew his leg free. Well... By the time he got the rod free from the ground he would already be dead. It was logical in some ways what he was doing. I'd have to help him. The faster he breaks free the easier his healing process will become. But, he still has wolfsbane seeping into his system. Without a doctor... He's as good as dead here. I don't think I can help.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

I backed out of coming closer to him. He growled and snapped his jaws as he must have guessed what I was doing. His pheromones changed as the dominating presence coursed me to not go anywhere. My body trembled in fear. Even if we were under circumstances he couldn't hurt me he was beginning to manipulate me. I felt terrible as I had an overwhelming feeling to help him. I didn't hesitate this time as I was now in his reach. He showed me his leg as if telling me to do it. I couldn't comprehend why I was reacting to him... I just bit in as I tore at his flesh until I his the bone. He growled in pain as I snapped the bone. I wasn't holding back as my jaws broke him free. He tore at the rest as he separated from the trap. Blood splashed and hit the ground. I went over to him in a hurry as I licked his wound and swallowed the wolfsbane. My instincts were to help in any way I can.

The Alpha turned on me suddenly when I was being helpful. His jaws locked on my neck as he threatened to break it. He was squeezing the life out of me in anger. I just wanted to help him. I whined as I heard a gun go off. I flinched as I thought at first the bullet had hit me. The Alpha's jaws loosened around my neck. He stepped away from me before dropping dead. I tensed up as I saw the clear shot to his head. I thought I was going to die. At least until I heard footsteps surround me.

"That's the queen's mut, isn't it?" I heard someone asking. I was recognized.

"Let's take him in. We might be rewarded for this catch," I heard the echoing voices over the sounds of ear pieces. I trembled as the squad of vampires surrounded me.

Their scent becoming strong of blood and death. I could smell the rot of their flesh that was dying from the lack of blood. They were covered in masks to protect them from dawn that was approaching once more. Each one of them was in thick protection. A way to prevent a werewolves' k9 from breaching. We could kill a vampire in one bite. All it took was the correct set of fangs. Our teeth were alined with venom. It wasn't toxic to any other species. To us it was a way of marking a mate but to a vampire it was poison. They held guns powerful enough to shoot through our tough skin. The bullets were oiled with micro samples of wolfsbane. These were weapons made to kill my kind.

I surrendered as I let them take me in. I didn't have much of a choice. They'd lead me back to town where I quickly noticed the flames on the horizon of where the warehouse had been. It looks like the fire was getting out of control now. Black smoke was littering the air. Lamia and what was left of her people were standing in the town square. Meynard was beside her as I could tell they were arguing but only when I was in ear shot did I understand what they were saying. Or rather what she was yelling.

"What do you mean you can't find them?" Lamia asked angrily. "Why is everyone standing around here for? There is shit that needs to be done," she pointed towards the warehouse. "Why isn't the fucking fire being put out? Get those bloody merchendise back here now or else!" She turned my way when she realized we were approaching.

"What is this?" Meynard asked as he seemed annoyed.

"We found him not far away from town," one of the guards said as I was kicked forward. I tucked my tail between my legs and limped her way.

"What is it?" Lamia asked in confusion. She leaned in towards Meynard to ask, "Do I know this one?" She doesn't even remember me? Meynard's eyes glimmered as he stared me down. I could finally see a disgusting look hiding as he shook his head.

"I don't think you do," he said. I could see now he would not tell her the truth. I imagined it had something to do with my brother standing in his way instead of letting him kill me. I trasformed back human to let Lamia have a better look at me. I wanted to talk to her. Maybe I could persuade her to keep me alive. Just long enough for me to form my next escape plan.

"Meynard you sly dog," Lamia would say as she elbowed him roughly in the side. "I do know this one. It's one of the descendants of Fang!" She pointed at me then as she looked like she found a shiny toy from the rough. "What's your name again, boy?"

"Cole," I mumbled. I was unhappy but I wasn't going to give her an answer that would result in my death. I'll stay alive. I have to this time. Remember that Niall is dead. His own mate confirmed it. There will be nobody on this side of the fense that can same me now besides myself. I will offer her information in exchange for my life. "I know where the packs are headed," I told her fast.

"Trackers said they're headed north," Meynard said with a smirk. Meynard... That bastard is the whole reason I'm stuck in this mess. If he hadn't injured me... I could have just ran for it with my family. Now, I'm stuck here awaiting Lamia's game she'll play with me.

"Where north?" I asked him and raised an eyebrow. He frowned as he couldn't come up with an answer. I looked at Lamia when I realized I had a good opportunity with this. "Y-you still looking for a spy?" I asked as I swallowed hard. She waved for me to go on. I took it as a yes. "I-I know where they're headed. If I say where... You let me go join them. I'll send you back anything you want to know."

"Why would I believe you'd betray your kind?" She asked.

"Because of what they did to my mate," I said as I thought about Emmett. "It's enough to make me hate all of my kind." She frowned as she looked to be falling for some of my trickery.

"Where are they going, pup?"

"Into the Northern territory," I explained. She looked furious then.

"What's north?" Meynard asked in confusion.

"That's where King Lennon reigns," she growled out in annoyance.

King Lennon? Who is King Lennon?

"Who is that?" I asked curiously.

"The sick and twisted werewolf king," she said in annoyance. "He's going to ruin my plans if he fin ds out what I've been doing here." She looked upset as she waved suddenly. "Take him away." I gasped as guards grabbed me by my arms and started to haul me away. I heard someone rush by then as a vampire came to report. His interuption slowed the guards as they nosily wanted to hear what he had to say. The vampire came to a stop as he held up a familiar dark cape.

"He's gone! Eder is gone!" He announced. I heard the whole viliage of vampire's gathered gasp. "Niall went with him!"

"That's imposible. I killed Niall," Lamia said as she looked to not believe it.

"His body is gone your highness! Both bodies!"

Lamia licked her lips as she looked furious. She turned to face Meynard and suddenly struck him across the face. His cheek redened as it began to swell from the hit. She turned to the crowd. Her eyes red with flames of madness.

"If there is another person caught standing around not doing anything, consider yourself bacon for my breakfast at the crack of dawn. GET OUT THERE AND FIND THEM!" She turned to look at Meynard. "If someone else comes up to tell me another person is missing you are going to be held accountable." Her voice sent a shiver down my spine as the guards straightened up and started to drag me away fast. I wouldn't want to be him right now. But, I don't want to go either!

Wait! No! I want to know what happened to Niall! If he's missing does that mean he's alive? No that's not true... It can't be true. Lilith said it herself. She can't feel him anymore. That means that he's dead. There is no other explaination. Eder must have moved his body out of pity. No- No... I thought Eder couldn't move. I thought he's supposed to be dead.
