I struggle against the wind holding me back, and then all of the sudden, it dissipates. I turn my attention back to Nova, and I see a giant cyclone begin to form around her. Dang, I didn't know she was capable of that! The villains went flying into the cyclone, and then suddenly, they vanished.
Phew, they're gone and Nova survived. She is alive still, isn't she? I look at Nova in the middle of the storm, who appears to be cursing to herself. The wind around her disappears completely, and she begins to fall headfirst towards the ground, unconscious.
"Nova!" I begin to fly to her, but I'm not going to get to her fast enough. No, we can't lose her, especially now that she's saved lives! She hurtles towards the Earth with a gentle smile on her face. This is the first time I've ever seen her smile, it would be nice if she wasn't falling to her death in the process.
I look down, and I see that everyone down below has gone still.
"Did you see those people?"
"Yeah, they totally looked like villains!"
"Did a pro stop them?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Look, there's a girl up there!"
"Is she… falling?!"
"What happened here?"
"She's gonna die!"
Damn, they all saw the confrontation after all, didn't they. So much for trying to keep everyone calm. Although... Nova did manage to at least drive the attackers away, so people shouldn't panic too badly.
"Eagle, don't you dare let her die!" It's Magician, yelling from down below where he's watching. "I told you I like her, that doesn't happen very often! If she dies I'll blame it on you!" Tch, so childish.
"I can't reach her in time!"
"Well you can't just give up, can you? She was promising before, but now? She's a hero!" She wouldn't have been happy if she heard him call her that. I turn back towards her, but she's already almost to the ground. She still has that strange, serene look on her face. Does she actually want to die?
"Nova!" I call out to her, hoping she can hear me. "You need to wake up right now!" It's no use, she's out cold. As she gets even closer to the ground, I turn away, waiting to hear her body land devastatingly, absolutely. "I'm sorry." I whisper under my breath, apologizing to the girl I brought to her death.
There's a flash of color that bolts from the edge of my vision. I whirl around, trying to see what it was that I saw. It's hurtling towards Nova, running so fast my eyes can barely keep up with it. Is that... no, it couldn't be her.
"Eagle! It's Anima!" No way, Anima was supposed to be long gone. But... I turn back to the flash of color I saw, trying to get a better look at it.
It's a large wildcat, maybe a cheetah? It's got jet black fur, with sharp, emerald colored eyes. Man, it is her, isn't it? The cat bolts towards Nova, who's almost to the ground. Leaping into the air, it morphs into a human, gently catching Nova in her arms before landing gracefully on the ground.
"Oh man Eagle, what have you gotten yourself into this time?" She says as I fly up to her quickly.
"Hey, Anima," Magician runs breathlessly towards us, trying to get her attention while waving his arms frantically. "Maybe you should, you know, put some clothes on or something?"
"You weren't freaking out when I was naked in cat form, why is it any different now?"
"Well, it's just... there are students here."
"Fine, give me a second." A silk wrap seems to grow out of her body, wrapping itself around her tightly making a type of modern toga. "Better?"
"Um, yeah." He blushes and turns away from her, embarrassed.
"Aw, is the little pervert embarrassed?"
"Anima, don't tease him." I say, trying to change the topic of conversation.
"Anyways," She says, back to business. "We should take her to the infirmary. She's in bad shape, what the hell did you do to her?"
"It's a long story, I'll tell you all about it later. For now let's just go. We're going to make even more of a scene if we stay here." I motion towards all of the curious eyes waiting in the room behind us.
"Yeah, let's go." She turns and starts walking towards the hallway leading out of the room, gingerly holding Nova in her arms.
"Do you want me to hold her for you? You must be tired from your mission."
"No, it's not a problem. She's light as a feather-that can't be healthy, can it? Anyways, I don't want you to lay a finger on this innocent girl, you don't get to do anything to her." Oh man, she's got the wrong idea again.
"No I-"
"Oop here we go!" Blackout somehow snuck up behind Magician and me, pushing us forward into the hallway Anima was leading us into. We ran after Anima, who was bolting down the hallway.
"Anima, slow down!" Why is she running so fast? She's not bumping Nova, but still, something could happen.
"I can't! She's bleeding a lot!" Oh shoot, I forgot about the blasts she was forced to take in order to protect everyone. I ran after her quietly after that, not protesting any more after realizing what was happening. Anima turned a corner, and walked straight up to a door. She kicked it with her foot, hard. The door burst down into the room, and she went straight in. I followed her, with Magician and Blackout following close behind.
"What in the-"
"Angel we need your help!" I run up to her, words coming quickly.
"Slow down boy! Anima, what's going on?"
"We've got a hurt student here."
"Let me see her. Just, put her on the bed over there and I'll check it out."
"Yes ma'am." Anima walked over to the hospital bed in the room and set nova down gently, trying not to move her too much.
"Now what do we have- oh my Arcane what happened!?" Angle exclaimed after seeing the state Nova was in.
"Well-"
"No time, I've got to work. Everyone shut up or I'll bring my wrath upon you all, got it?" She snapped at us, turning to Nova. She lifted her hands in front of her, overlapping each other. She held them over Nova, and they began to glow a gentle white. Angle spread her arms, the light spreading with them. It slowly spread until it completely enveloped Nova, making it so we couldn't see her.
After sitting there for a while, Angel finally withdrew her hands, the glow fading out of existence. Angel sat back, exhausted.
"I did the best I could for her, though I will still need to bandage some of the wounds to help them heal fully. How in the world did she manage to get such giant holes in her poor body?"
"It's a long story, you should start wrapping her up while you listen. I want to make sure she's-" I was cut off by the door exploding open, knocking me face first into the floor. Yes, literally exploding.
"Where's the girl?" There was a loud, masculine voice standing in the open door frame. I can't see who they are from my position on the floor, but I think I recognize the voice. I feel strong hands pick me up by my jacket collar, dragging me off the ground like a small cat being carried by its mother.
"Hey Cannord, long time no see." I say with a small, nervous laugh, staring into the hero's face.
"Eagle," He growls back at me. "What the hell were you thinking? If it weren't for her skills, she could've died you idiot!" His voice was rising, getting louder and louder by the second. I shied away from him nervously, hoping he wasn't going to do anything stupid again.
"Stop yelling! I have a patient here who needs treating, and a story that needs telling by that nimrod." Angel silenced Cannord, getting him to set me down after he gave me one final hard glare.
"Oh, chairman! Nice to see you here!" Blackout jumped up and down excitedly, looking towards the doorway where another figure stood."
"Hello Blackout, Eagle, Anima, how are you?" I nearly laughed out loud with Magician being ignored completely, again. "Angel, how's the girl?"
"She's fine. Now Eagle, you owe me an explanation. What happened and why is this girl so important?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean she's got seven pro heroes around her and there are probably countless others who are interested in her. It hasn't even been the first day! Surely this girl isn't just a normal student. So I'll ask you again, what. the. heck. happened. here?" Ugh, this day just keeps getting better and better. I start explaining everything that has happened with Nova, from the test to the fight, trying not to miss a single detail. This is going to take a while.
