"OMG SHE'S NOT BREATHING!"
"Well this is new…"
"Whaddawedo?Whaddawedo?Whaddawedo?"
"Slow down I can't even understand a word of what you're saying.
"Guys…"
"I can't slow down, this is a crisis!"
"Guys…"
"Well, in a crisis, you need to stay calm."
"GUYS! SHUT UP! I think she's waking up."
I can hear a bunch of voices in my ear, is this just my imagination? Am I dead? I don't think so… the last thing I remember is pushing the quiet kid out of the way, what was his name again? I don't think he ever said… I'll have to ask him later, If I'm still alive, that is.
"Shhhh…" Slowly, I open my eyes. I'm in a gray room, it feels like I'm laying on some sort of hardwood floor. Where am I? Did the villains kidnap me or something? No, I don't see why they would do that, they tried to kill me after all. I can feel my heart beating fast, and I try to slow it down. I need to think rationally.
Sitting up suddenly, I crash into someone with my forehead. I wince slightly, trying to get my eyes to focus.
"Owie, what was that for?"
"You shouldn't have gotten that close to her! What did you think was going to happen?" Looking around, I see a bunch of girls surrounding me. I try to move away, and then feel my body freeze.
"Don't move."
"Man V, you didn't have to do that to her right from the get-go. She just woke up for crying out loud, give her a break!"
"But it's her! If she escapes because we were being stupid, we're gonna be punished for sure."
"Yeah, but she's severely injured and completely out of energy! What would she have done, crawled out of here?"
"I wouldn't put it past her…"
"Where the hell am I?" I growl, trying to move. It looks like the only things I can move are my eyes and my mouth. Everything else feels like it's frozen solid, what's happening?
"Please don't try to move, it's exhausting." It sounds like this chick is the one who's making it so I can't move. She sounds so tired, like she doesn't even wanna be here. What's her deal?
"Man, you're such a buzzkill." This is the hyperactive one from earlier. Her voice is so filled with energy, it's wearing me out just by listening. From the sound of it, she's directly behind me. Is she the one that I hit earlier?
"Ava darling, be a dear and let her go, will you?" This voice sounds silky smooth, calming yet unnerving at the same time.
"Ebony, you know your power doesn't work on me."
"I was merely asking you to let her go. How dare you accuse little ol' me of trying to manipulate you?"
"You little-"
I hear a new voice sigh deeply, "Both of you, knock it off. Ava, let her go." I feel myself regain movement, and I try to stand up, thoughts of running flashing through my brain. Suddenly, I feel a sharp pain in my stomach, forcing me to fall back to the floor. Light flashes in my eyes, and I feel my brain grow cloudy for a split second. Looks like I won't be making my escape anytime soon.
Turning my attention toward where I heard the voices, I take everyone in. There are four girls sitting around me, one of them at the very edge of my vision from where she was inevitably standing behind me. She has short, bright yellow-blonde hair with a streak of black running down the front. She has a big red mark on her forehead, right in between her two crystal blue eyes. Definitely the one that I hit, then.
Sitting to my right, there's this chick with long jet black hair running straight down her back, with two strands in front of her shoulders. I make eye contact with her vibrant purple eyes, trying to get a read on her. She looks away almost immediately. I take it that she was the one making me unable to move earlier.
To my left, a little too close for comfort, a strawberry-blonde haired chick smiles warmly at me. Her hair is pulled up into a cute bun, with little curly wisps framing her delicate face. She's super pretty, without a single blemish in sight. She was probably the one with the silky sounding voice. She makes me uncomfortable.
Finally, the girl sitting right in front of me. She's got curly red hair falling around her shoulders, with a pair of brilliant red eyes to match. She's definitely the leader of the group, I get a kind of authoritative vibe from her. She's staring right at me, gaze unreadable. I shiver, but hold eye contact, staring right back at her. It looks like she's got a little scar on her right eyelid, it makes her look pretty sick if I do say so myself.
I know that I'm not tied up or anything, but I feel pretty trapped right about now. Looking around at all of the faces again, I notice the three girls from earlier standing in the back, looking concerned.
"Are you okay?" It's the redhead, vacant look replaced with a gentle smile.
"It doesn't matter if I'm okay or not," I say quietly. "Is the other kid okay?"
"Yes, he's fine. You pushed him out of the way in time. You're the only one who suffered the force of the blow." Aubree pipes up from the back, the four around me still staring.
"You've been through some stuff today, haven't you? Sorry about that earlier." I don't know why the black haired chick is worried about me now, she's confusing. She almost seems shy now, she's weird.
"Aw, girls, calm down. She looks so nervous, the poor thing. Even my initiation wasn't as bad as that!" The strawberry-blonde girl gets even closer to me. Hmm, I wonder why I'm nervous. It's totally not because she's being super creepy or anything…
"Sorry about all this, it must be quite a shock after what you've been through today. To answer your question from earlier, you're in the dorm building right now. You passed out from overusing your oddity, so your group carried you the rest of the way here." Man, why am I so freaking useless? "If it weren't for you, though, the kid carrying you probably would have died."
"You haven't even started classes and you're already a hero! She's working overtime!" Man, this chick really is hyperactive, isn't she?
"Anyways, Crawler filled us in all about your situation, so we know everything. No need for explanations. Right now you are in the main area of the girls' section of the building. All of the boys are across the central lobby. I guess you'll see what the main building looks like during the building tour."
"Hmph." I can tell she wants me to say something, to do something, but I don't even know how to take in the situation.
"Oh well. I'm Scarlet, I'm a fourth year at this school. This gloomy girl is Ava, she's also a fourth year."
"I told you Scar, I go by V."
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Anyways, this is-"
"My name's Kyla! It's so awesome to meet you! I can't believe you already stopped a bunch of villains and it's only your first day! How did you even notice they were there? I mean- hmmmph!"
"Sorry about her," Scarlet says with a laugh, leaning over to cover Kyla's mouth. "She's kind of, well, hyperactive to say the least. She's our resident second-year. Lastly-"
"You can call me Ebony, sweety. I'm a fourth-year, and I must say, you're the cutest one out of this entire bunch. I can't wait to get to know you better!" She grabs my hand and rubs against me weirdly, freaking me out even more. Sighing, Scarlet comes and delivers a measured blow to the base of her neck and grabs her by her uniform shirt, dragging Ebony away from me.
"Sorry about her, too. She's a hard one to keep in check. Anyways, we're the elites of the school, nice to meet you! You'll get to meet the boys later. For now, though, time for the tour of the girls' wing! It's not much, we're in the lobby right now. We've got a small kitchen over there in the corner, and we're lucky enough to be on the side of the building with the beach, so we've got a door right over there leading out to it! We've also got our couches, but we don't use them very much. We spend most of our time in the main area."
"Ooh, my turn!" Great, it's the spaz again. "If you look over there, you'll see a staircase leading, well, upstairs! Follow me!" She bolts to the stairs, happily skipping up the steps. Sighing, me and the other first years follow her. "Here are all the bedrooms! You can see which ones are occupied by the signs on the doors, courtesy of yours truly! Feel free to pick one, but be quick about it!"
There are four doors on each side of the hallway, and three on the left have signs on them, with one on the right taken. Walking all the way down the hall, I take the last one on the left side, hoping I have a window looking outside. I jot my name down on the sign with a marker next to the door, then feel an arm wrap around my shoulders.
"Goodie! You get to live next to me!" Crap, guess I picked the wrong one. Whatever, it's not like we're sharing a room or anything. I brush her arm off my shoulders and start heading back towards the stairs. My legs stop working out of the blue, and I fall face first onto the floor with a loud thud.
"Hey Kyla, what was that?" I hear Scarlet yell from downstairs.
"Um…" Kyla says, looking between me and the stairs frantically. "Nothing! Everything's just peachy up here! Nobody collapsed on the floor or something, that would be ridiculously ridiculous!"
"Okay… hurry up and get them to pick their rooms. It's almost time to meet the boys." She totally doesn't believe Kyla, but I guess as long as she doesn't come upstairs it's fine.
"Nova? You good?" She bends down to me, sounding concerned.
"Yeah, I guess I'm more worn out than I realized." Sitting up, I look down to assess the damage. I don't feel very hurt, but I just collapsed, so I don't know. I see blood dripping down my stomach, and try to cover it quickly before Kyla sees.
"Hey, what's that?" I cover it with my arm, but it's too late. "Let me see."
"No! I told you, I'm fine."
"You are such a freaking liar. If you won't move your arm, I'll find another way to see it!" Quickly and nimbly, she tears off the bottom of my hoodie, exposing the blood leaking through the bandages on my stomach. "Ah ha! I knew something was wrong!"
"Damn, why'd you ruin my hoodie like that?"
"You're bleeding rivers and you're concerned about the hoodie?"
"I told you before, I'm fine. Piss off!"
"You aren't fine!" She motions to pick me up, presumably to take me downstairs to the other girls. I'd push her back with my powers but I can't, so instead I go to kick her. "Stop it! I'm trying to help you!"
"Like hell you are! I don't need anyone else's help!"
"Stop it! Just let me take you downstairs!"
"Hey, is everything still good up there, darling?"
"Yeah Ebony, everything's peachy!" Kyla says through her teeth, still grappling with me. "Dammit Nova, just stay still! You're gonna make it worse!"
"I'm fine! Just leave me alone!"
"I didn't want to do this, but you leave me no choice!" Sparks start flying from her hands as she activates her power. She touches me, and releases a small amount of electricity, not enough to hurt me, but enough to stun me. I feel my body go limp, Kyla picks me up and starts carrying me down the stairs. I glare at her with all the intensity I can muster, trying to pull all of my rage into my eyes. "This wouldn't have happened if you didn't fight me, don't glare at me like I'm the villain here." This day really can't get any worse, can it?
