Later, I began to talk to Boingo between our classes. As we were exchanging, the two of us were forced to keep an eye out for each other, as the hallways were crowded as ever and the risk of bumping or tripping in the middle of it still a very real possibility.
"So," Boingo replied after I'd told him everything that happened, "what's going to happen to us? Endora and I, I mean."
Not knowing how to respond, I thought for a second before forming a likely possibility. "Midnight would either leave you both alone or put you under some kind of protection spell in the case that something went wrong."
Nodding, Boingo accepted my response and continued walking, as the silence grew lengthier, I assumed that the conversation had ended and shifted my attention more to adjusting my position in the hallway. After all, we still had a few classes to attend before I had the opportunity to reunite with Midnight.
However, I eventually fell asleep and awoke inside the cave area of the labyrinth. Now feeling much better than before, I started to look around for my principal. I wondered if he was still searching for me in the surface levels, but seeing that I wasn't able to ascend to his location, I continued to meander until I came upon his figure.
"Feste." My principal turned to face me, already having sensed my presence. "You're here."
"Yes." My lips quivered as I had the urge to elaborate on why I suddenly appeared here. Finally deciding to enlighten Midnight on this, I began to form sentences explaining what happened. It was brief as I was only inside of the cave for what seemed like a few minutes before I was forced to awaken once more.
At the end of it all, Midnight held his chin. "Interesting, very interesting. It's almost as if whoever may be orchestrating all of this, whether it's your subconscious mind or some other entity, recognizes that we've uncovered the final layers of this immense puzzle." Midnight shook his head and began to stride off in another direction. "Come, Feste; we must not waste any more time talking."
Obeying him, Midnight led the two of us over to a particular tunnel. Peering around, I saw that his expression was one of confusion. "That's weird."
"What is?"
By now, Midnight had fixed his gaze down one particular tunnel. "The gate was over here. Either this place automatically scrambled its layout or by having you here it... opened." After saying this, Midnight shook his head and decided to continue onward. "We may as well figure everything out as we walk."
After a few minutes elapsed, I began to notice a particular change that had been slowly overcoming us. Inexplicably, I felt an aura that only grew stronger, one that surrounded the two of us. However, this wasn't the greatest concern; Midnight simply continued walking as if nothing was happening. It took only a moment before I worked up the courage to inquire my principal of it. "Midnight, I'm sorry to ask this, but..."
The principal whipped around, blankly gazing into my eyes. Sighing, he began to move his hands; first, he gestured towards his throat. Then, he made an 'X' symbol with them and finally Midnight pointed at his ears. Not understanding the message, I continued to stare at him. "Midnight, have you sensed the-?"
Midnight interrupted me with a series of words in a language that I couldn't even begin to decipher. My principal started to reiterate his movements in the vain hope that I would get something out of it. Stopping to dedicate all of my mental power to it, I finally thought of a possible explanation to everything; Midnight couldn't understand me as I couldn't with him. Knowing this, I began to communicate nonverbally with Midnight, pointing down the cave the way we had initially embarked. Now finally understanding this, Midnight nodded and turned his back towards mine, continuing to walk. Meanwhile, I began to worry about this spontaneously created barrier.
