Chapter 62 - - 62 -

"I wouldn't go into that club if I were you." A voice rang out behind me, causing me to whip around. It was Midnight, he was only a few paces behind me. "I believe that my teachings will be far superior and efficient than any student's, especially if the club leaders are in their last year here."

Nodding at the fact that Midnight would be a huge step up from these self-proclaimed teachers that were still learning magic here, I defended my decision. "Well, it's not really that, I just thought that I would try reaching out to other people. For the past few weeks, I've only interacted with Boingo, Endora, you and Day." I shifted my gaze. "Well, there are some other students that I happened to bump into, but that's beside the point."

Midnight made grunted in a way that indicated agreement. "Alright then. I just thought that you would only join for academics. Go on, then." He stepped back. "However, you'll see how fast your skill will increase with me as your teacher. After all, I have a bit of experience with helping students in need." He broke eye contact with me. "For instance, there was this fairly shy student that approached me before they took their final exam, hoping that I would help them review because the course material was not sticking. I did initially scold them for coming into my office, but I eventually had a small lesson with them. After only ten minutes, it ended and that student had a near-perfect score." Midnight finally came back to reality and his faint smile dissolved into a neutral expression once more. "And you can imagine how many things you can learn from having one-hour sessions with me every day."

Even though I wasn't looking into a mirror, I could tell that my eyes were wide with excitement. "Well, I'll... see you tonight?"

Midnight shook his head. "A few things, first. First, how was the lesson with Mr. Grey? I was watching you, but I can't exactly feel what you were feeling; was it too intense for you?"

I almost replied affirmatively, but then thought back to the translator spell. I had exhausted my magical power reserves until I was left gasping for breath, although my body was perfectly healthy. "It should have been a bit more gentle..."

"That's fine!" Midnight rose his voice for a few seconds. "That's fine. I can just donate some of my magic to you. It makes no sense for you to run yourself dry while you're simply learning spells."

"Thank you." At this point I was beginning to turn around, waiting for Midnight to do so.

"Hang on," my principal stopped me once more. "I have an idea for when we meet tonight."

"What is that?" I returned to my original position.

"When you get ready for bed," Midnight explained, "try holding something. I know it's almost certain that you won't be holding it when you get transported to the labyrinth but if you do, it'll be a huge benefit."

It seemed very unlikely to work and I had to stifle myself from shaking my head, I figured that there would be very low risk in following Midnight's orders. "I'll keep that in mind."

Midnight now shifted, beginning to turn toward the hallway leading to an intersection. "That is all."

"See you tonight, sir," I bode Midnight farewell, still looking toward the billboard. There was still quite a bit of time left in this class, and this was my only source of stimulation until I was able to walk to my next classroom.
