Now annoyed but somewhat relieved that I got a tidbit of information out of Midnight, I spoke once more. "What did you do, then?"
My principal was not keen on sharing the details of just what happened with me. He began to look away and push himself off of the foot of my bed. "I'll probably need your help tonight."
I tried to call out to Midnight, but he was already out of the room before I could say anything else. Now left alone in the room, I tried to think of all the possible things that Midnight could be referring to. Could he have possibly done something while in the cave that I was just inside?
Partway through my train of thought, the door creaked open and a new face appeared. The creature, clad in a school uniform, was covered in thick red fur. Looking down, their uniquely shaped hands were covered with latex gloves. They began to approach me until the creature was close enough for me to make out the fact that the alien was shaking.
After they quickly eyed me over, the alien spoke for the first time. Their voice was higher than most students inside the school. "Hello. I'm... a student like you are. I began to learn all sorts of healing spells so that I could one day become a doctor. For now, though, I was hired here in the hospital sector so I could gain practical experience, but they won't let me get at the serious stuff."
Receiving no response from me but a slight stare, the alien approached me further. "Can you hold out your hand, please? This won't hurt, I promise." Deciding to comply, the alien grabbed my appendage with their gloved hands. In an instant, a probing sensation crept through my entire body, feeling for my vital organs and surveying all of my other body parts. After a few surreal seconds that felt similar to when Windell had searched my memories, the feelings retracted and the student unclasped my hand. The alien then took a step backwards. With a nod, the student, now displaying a confident expression, finalized my checkup. "You just have an upset stomach and some residual headaches."
Deciding to perform an intrinsic test on myself, I realized that the alien was correct. They must have realized this based on my expression because the corners of their mouth rose and they continued. "Since this is minor, you'll just be under a small mixture of healing spells until you recover. Now, hold out your hand once more please."
Obeying the instruction, the alien once again cast a probing spell. The instant that the sensation spread throughout my entire body, however, I felt as if each of the small tendrils were injecting something into my body. Only a couple of seconds elapsed before my symptoms were quelled. What was most unusual was the fact that it didn't feel like any sort of physical medication that was usually prescribed by doctors on my home planet.
"How do you feel?" The alien spoke up yet again.
By the time that I was able to formulate a response, I felt completely pure, all of my soreness completely eradicated. "Very good. When do you get to do this? How can you do this?"
The creature giggled. "It's nothing to be super excited about. You need to take a specialized course on healing spells, as they don't normally teach you this as part of the usual curriculum. Once you do, though, it's incredibly useful. If you ever scrape yourself or feel unwell, you will never need to see anyone other than yourself." The creature's mouth started to open once more to add to their explanation, but a ringing came from one of their pockets. Pulling out a small device, they quickly looked towards me. "Sorry, I have to go now. A student came in claiming that they got a stomach bug from a suspicious plate of food that they ate. Anyways, you're free to get back to class now."
