Chapter 30 - - 30 -

Now startled, I quickly dodged. The plank fell behind me, the possibility of it igniting everything else being shoved to the back of my mind. In addition, Ittisk was now completely standing.

Deciding to run at the earliest possible opportunity, I gauged the distance between me and the door. It was going to be difficult to escape unscathed, but I was willing to risk a few scratches and cuts if it meant freedom and life.

Ittisk was now advancing towards me, still without a weapon. He was much more careful this time, electing to dodge my attacks wherever they may come from. It was because of this that I summoned yet another fireball, sending it into Ittisk's direction. I didn't load it with the intent to kill, but my adrenaline may have led me to pack it with more heat than I needed.

The alien slowed to a halt and fell to the ground, something I could not see since his partner was quickly rushing in to take care of me before helping him. He readied another fist, one that rushed towards my head most likely to knock me unconscious once again. I didn't have much time to combat this, but I instinctively thought to put my hands up next to my face. The impact, while it redirected the pain towards my extremities, it still sent me sprawling on the ground once more.

"Get out of my way," Thrack spat as he rushed to put out the flames that were raging on his partner. Finally getting an opportunity to examine my surroundings once more, I also noticed that the plank had indeed spread its heat onto the other wooden objects, primarily the shelves. "There, are you alright?" He stood once more to keep an eye on me as the now partly burnt Ittisk staggered to his feet.

"Don't let him..." Ittisk pointed at me. "Don't..." He burst out in a fit of coughing. Thrack peered at him to ensure that he was okay. I immediately took the opportunity to run, suddenly thrusting open the door and closing it on Thrack's face. To my despair, he was still following me through the streets.

I was now completely over my dizziness spell from my pursuer knocking me to the ground, but running after laying for a while was still a bit of a challenge. Still, I managed to keep ahead of him somewhat as we both weaved through numerous streets.

The further we descended into the city, with me slowly gaining distance only to lose it to a minor mistake, the ..ore people seemed to litter the sides of the road once more. I took advantage of the situation and called out for help.

Even though he was behind me, I imagined that Thrack's expression was a sneer. Nobody seemed to want to run and help me or do anything but watch the situation unfold before their eyes. I growled, my eyes desperately shifting from alien to alien.

Eventually, I singled out one particularly tall and muscular creature. "You!" He was already looking at me, but now his attention was undivided and he halted. "Get the police! Do something! I'm being chased!"

This seemed to get him to move. With a mild amount of hesitation, he swiftly nodded and headed in the same direction we were running in. However, since we were both losing steam by the second, the alien quickly overtook us and whizzed out of sight a moment later.

Now evaluating my situation while still on the run, I sensed that Thrack was only a few meters behind me and rapidly approaching. I couldn't help myself from smirking. While I may be drained physically, I had now enough magical energy to fight all over again. I promptly summoned yet another fireball, but unlike all the other attacks that I executed back at the shop, I now had a half-decent plan to take down my captor.

Momentarily looking back, I took a deep breath and conjured a small inferno inside of the beast's mouth. Not enough to cause any permanent damage, but one that was sufficient enough to stop him in his tracks. I followed this up with another bout of telekinesis at his feet, causing him to trip once again.

As expected, Thrack's eyes snapped open as he began to fall. Dodging to the side, he began to slide against the coarse pavement a decent amount until his body was well in front of mine. Since he was now momentarily limp, I decided to take a small break before I had to sprint once more.

My breaths ragged and rapid, I looked around again at the crowd that had gathered. Stiffening up, I called out with what strength I could muster. "Did you see that?"
