Chapter 7 - Chapter 6: Understatement Of The Century

Holding my ground I turn towards Dante in anticipation. I was getting antsy and I saw him smirk at my actions.

"Be patient. It takes a minute or two to reboot" He informs me chuckling. I turn my head away my cheeks heating up. Sure enough there were random holograms walking around with no logical sense.

"What do want to show me anyways?" I ask

His face turns serious and for a second he looked unsure of what to say. "I'm going to re-teach you history." He smiles satisfied with his answer.

Can anything be straightforward with this guy?!

"Thanks, that helps a ton" I mumble. Suddenly my headset tightens a bit and start vibrating. I look at Dante and he nods as if insuring me it'll be alright. My racing heart calms at this. My surrounding once again is covered in darkness. I hold my breath, preparing myself for what ever comes next. The silence engulfs us as the sound of the headset vibrates in the air.

A beep rings through headsets and my there's a different view in front of my eyes once again. Dante voice fills the room as he begins explaining.

"Back forward to the start of time, humanity was put onto earth. The aspect of sins and demons had not yet arisen." Dante's voice spoke through the scene playing in front of my eyes. His voice and diagrams appearing before me in sync.

"You've been told that Cain was the first ever killer no?"

I nod as flashes of a figure shows someone putting a person down with a sword which I assume to be Cain.

"Well they forgot to mention was that that distinct memory was captured and stored in some specific people in the coming generation. That thought of killing still fresh in the mind of humans you can guess things didn't end well. Some that were gifted, or shall I say cursed with the memory, either went insane, or killed till they were satisfied."

My eyes were as big as saucers by the time he finished that sentence. Sure enough the sim showed me pictures and videos as he spoke.

"Through the chaos demons were formed. They fed off the sins and negative emotions of humans and grew stronger over time. Throughout the century chaos increased and battles were fought under the influence of demons. As more generations pasts demons activity became obsolete and they started dying off... Fast forward to now there are almost only a quarter percent of demons left compared to the 18's."

I focus on his words the best I can, though the mere thought of how far fetched this sounds kind of flies off the top of my head.

"The personality of the demons that were left did a complete 360. Some went into hiding, others stuck around living their life as normal as they could for their lifetimes. A normal life span of a demon is identical to an average human so it's not that hard."

Dante turns his head towards me as if to see if I still with him. I nod and gestured him to proceed. He smiles and continues to where he left off.

"There's darkness inside every living things from insect to plants to humans... Taking advantage if this fact an obstacle arose. A new species. We call them 'rouges'. As chaos thinned they're numbers increased."

In the sim I see a figure racing towards us. I step backwards but was stopped by Dante. He shakes his head with a smile and nods towards the figure. I move my gaze to the hunched over figure of what I assumed to be a 'rouge'. It looked like a normal human human except something seemed off about his face. I gasped and stumbled back as I realized his eye was full on black. A memory surfaces into mind but before I can full capture it, it escape from reach. Dante's voice fills my head.

"That's the marking trait of a 'rouge'. The overgrowing darkness seeps through their body and into their eyes making them see things that makes them either lash out or go crazy. Amidst all that, they slowly, but surely lose all their humanity."

The hologram follows Dante's lips and shows the 'rouge' losing self control. In the end the 'rouge' stood covered in blood. A bile rises in my throat and I look away.

"Now the demons that are left on earth are focused on thing and it alone. It's their sole mission. Kill all rouges." Dante finishes off.

Mere seconds later darkness engulfs my eyes and I'm back in the room covered in white. Silence passes through us as Dante's takes off his headset and places it back onto the table. I stand frozen replaying what I just experienced. Strangely though, that's not the main thing that bothered me the most. But in fact that I believed every second of what he said. I see Dante walking towards me. He stops mere inches away and lifts his hand. He presses a button and let's the headset on my head loosen before sliding it off.

I had forgotten I had that on..

He smiles softly knowing how I must feel. "I'm sure you have a million question right now but let's go back to the office. I'll whip you up a night steaming cup of hot chocolate and we can discuss over it," He places one hand at my waist and leads me out of the room. " It's a lot to take in.." He states.

Understatement of the century...
