Chapter 154 - Independence - Gary

Gary walked up the stairs slowly, thinking about what his teammates had said. Maybe they were just siding with Barry because that was the only choice they thought they had. He reached the door to his dorm, groaning internally. He could hear Barry's voice coming from inside and he really didn't want to deal with his majesty right now. Then he heard another voice but that one was a bit more muffled so he couldn't make out who it was. Against his better judgement, he leaned his ear on the door and listened to the conversation within.

"Can you believe her?! Standing up for that bastard against me?! In front of everyone! She even got up to leave after I threatened to ditch her." An evidently annoyed Barry ranted, braking just so that he could catch his breath. Gary frowned, who were they talking about? It seemed like Barry had company though, making him immensely glad that he hadn't walked in on whatever they were doing.

"She just wants some… independence. You need to give her that if you want her to… stick around." The other person breathed. Taking brakes in the middle of sentences to gasp for air. Who were they? They sounded familiar but Gary couldn't place who they were.

"Hell no, I'm not letting her out. I still haven't finished the stupid dare!" Barry retorted. There was a huff from within and a bed creak, Gary assuming it was just Barry sitting down in defeat thought nothing of it. "Besides I still don't trust the guy. How can you even trust him Brad?" He asked, his voice quieter than before and more muffled.

Brad? As in Bradley? Gary questioned, was his majesty seeking help from his advisor? He groaned internally, realising himself how nerdy that sounded. If only the nerds hadn't kicked him out. He would've been a great asset to the group.

"She needs space- S-stop it!" Bradley started, being interrupted by a fit of giggles. Wait giggles? Gary raised an eyebrow, was Barry tickling him? The bed creaked a few more times and he heard Barry speak again, only just audible.

"That's not what you were saying 5 minutes ago." It was in a low voice that made the hairs on Gary's neck stand up. Was Barry threatening his best friend? It didn't surprise him too much. Barry threatened everyone. Probably his girlfriend too.

"Ah! Shut up! I thought you wanted… advice anyway! On Rainbow!" Bradley managed to choke out in between bouts of laughter. Rainbow?! They were talking about the Aimes?! What had she done to make Barry mad this time? Had he beaten her up again? His mind swirled, making him start to panic. What if she was in trouble!

"Who cares about that selfish idiot? C'mere." Barry responded, his voice still low and threatening. Gary grit his teeth. He wanted to stay but at the same time he wanted to go check on the Aimes. He wasn't sure why he was so worried but decided that it wasn't important at the moment, before rushing off down the corridor in search of his frienemy.
