Rainbow woke up in a bright room that she instantly recognised. The nurse's office. She rubbed her eyes, letting them adjust to the bright light in the room. She started to push herself up into a sitting position as she wondered how shed got here when a sharp pain shot through her stomach. She cried out and instantly fell back down on the bed, relieving the pain. Stupid Barry. Footsteps echoed in the hallway outside and she begged it not to be the nurse's heels clicking. She couldn't deal with her today. The door opened and the nurse entered the room.
"Ah! You're awake!" She smiled and picked up her clipboard off of the side. Rainbow frowned seeing it. She did not want therapy. Especially now. She was frustrated, in pain and exhausted. Why did the nurse always have to pick the worst times?
"You should thank, Mr Sheffield when he wakes up." The nurse continued a little quieter. Rainbow frowned, perplexed. Mr Sheffield? Mayor Sheffield? She looked down to her side and saw Gary asleep and leaning on the bed. Her eyes widened slightly.
Judging that she would want an explanation, the nurse started to explain what had happened. "Mr Sheffield carried you in here, he said that you'd collapsed on your way to your lesson and that he was worried about you. Isn't that sweet?" She asked, causing Rainbow's cheeks to pink up in embarrassment. They weren't even friends. Why had he carried her here? Why had he stayed? Just to see if she was okay? Or was it to find out more information? Questions swirled round her mind, giving her a headache and making her slightly dizzy.
"Why did he stay?" She mumbled, her raspy voice sounding brittle compared to the nurse's soft and warm voice. She coughed slightly. The question was more 'why did you let him stay' rather than what she'd asked, but she didn't want to sound ungrateful for his kindness. The nurse smirked at her bad mood.
"He refused to leave when I told him to go to class." The nurse informed her, smiling at Rainbow's frown. Of course he did… she thought. He definitely wanted something. "Besides, it's nice that you're making some new friends." The nurse hinted. Rainbow's face screwed up in embarrassment.
"Me and Gary are *not* friends!" She exclaimed, her throat complaining from her exclaiming while her voice was still raspy. She crossed her arms even though it hurt when she moved. The nurse raised an eyebrow. Rainbow knew that Gary wanted to be friends but she didn't particularly. Making more friends just meant a higher chance of getting hurt. Besides, it wasn't like Barry would let her anyway. The nurse sighed at Rainbow's adamant expression.
"It's not a terrible thing to have more friends Rainbow." The nurse commented, acknowledging the fact that she only really had two, excluding Dimond since she was family. Gabrielle, Bradley and the other populars weren't really properly her friends, they were just friends through association, which didn't really count.
Gary stirred on the bed, probably due to her shouting. She bit her lip, wondering what he would say if he woke up. He'd covered for Barry at least, so he wasn't entirely against her…
