Chapter 104 - Her Aura - Gary

Gary was sitting in history jotting notes down from the board. He'd learnt some Sheffield history from his father and his various tutors, but he'd never learnt about the history of the whole of England before. He was actually finding the subject quite interesting but the way the teacher presented it, mixed with the evidently bored class, meant that he wasn't learning very much. The class was restless, talking over the struggling teacher and generally interrupting. One thing was certain, the classes themselves had been better behaved at his previous school. It was probably because of the constant threat that the kids' parents would find out about their behaviour or grades. It was the same thing that pushed Gary to achieve.

As the teacher tried to gain control of the class, Gary's mind wondered back to The Girl. She had evidently remembered him, but what had she tried to say before? Why was she following Barry around? It didn't really make sense to him. He kept forgetting how little he actually knew about her, he didn't even know her name! The only reason that he wanted to befriend her was because she was the only person who hadn't been influenced by his father already and would actually treat him like a normal person. Or at least that's what he hoped. There was also something strangely familiar about her. Maybe it was her aura...

Everyone had their own unique aura, it was a feeling that anyone could feel, but magic users had the ability to sense them without concentrating on them. It was like a sixth sense. The auras told you who the person was (if you'd met them before), what they were feeling and what their intent was. Since magic users could sense auras so easily, it meant that they couldn't get ambushed. Non-magic users could detect them too, but only if they had knowledge that auras existed and had been trained to detect them. No-one had the same exact aura, which was why it was weird that Gary recognised The Girl's like he had met her before. Even before the incident in the woods...
