A couple of days later, Gary found Ruby sitting on the field alone and walked over to her. "Hey! Need some company?" He asked her when she looked up at him.
"Sure." She smiled, patting the grass next to her. He sat down next to her and they talked for a while. Ruby was laughing.
"No way! You did not!" She laughed pushing his shoulder playfully. Gary smiled at her reaction. When she smiled it lit up her whole face. When she eventually straightened she looked into his dazzling ocean-coloured eyes breathlessly. "I really like you Gary." She whispered as she unconsciously leaned closer, their faces only a couple of centimetres apart. Gary noticed her staring at his lips and leaned forward slightly, following her lead. He could feel her soft breathing on his face causing his cheeks to pink. His eyes lidded and were about to close when she started laughing mockingly. "You actually thought I loved you?" She asked, still laughing at him. He blinked a couple times trying to understand the new turn of events. "I knew the Sheffield's were dumb, but seriously!" She continued laughing. Gary frowned.
"What do you mean?" He asked still confused by the way this had ended. Ruby rolled her eyes, still smiling from her fit of laughter.
"Let me spell it out for you," She sighed. "I hate you, and the Sheffield family, and your stupid county." She explained. Gary still seemed confused, so she continued. "When Essex was begging for assistance from its allied county Sheffield. You turned your back on us and left us to starve!" She explained. Gary frowned again it was a lot more complicated than that. "All I have to do now is explain that YOU tried to kiss me and it'll be your third strike. AKA bye bye Mr unwanted Sheffield!" She finished.
