Days passed. Weeks turned to months as months blinked by in slow motion.
Blurring through the mist due to strong headwinds, the first year weighed heavily upon Alicia's shoulders. Just as Head Cleric Balbazar had said, her days to come would not be kind.
Over the course of her treatment, her thoughts on the man became even more so. Indeed he was a creep! Not one of those groping creeps on the subway, but those ones with binoculars looking through their windows. Seemed the man knew too much for a simple head cleric. Much of which should not have been known else seen by his own eyes.
Fortunately upon entering the second year, luck had struck Alicia. Catching the wind's tail, her life flowed rapidly down the river of time. Her body was stabilizing. The pain had become bearably dull, turning those torturesome monthly visits into every other month.
For the first time in five years, not since her first episode, Alicia thanked god. A true and honest thank you. Thank you for saving me from that creep!
Clouds formed gentle shadows passing by the fire in the sky. Off setting the heat of the mid summer's sun, a cool western breeze swayed the grass.
Today is a good day, Alicia soaked in the sweet gentle air, breathing in deeply, sighing in contentment with smiling eyes.
No, this week has been a good week. Finally she could feel her magic once more! It filled the hole in her stomach, swimming in her veins as life once again blazed fierce in her eyes.
Even though it could not get any better, Alicia laughed, jumping to her feet.
Briskly running off, luck truly was on her side. Better was an understatement as not only was she able to spend time with her father, her elder brother Huen was home on vacation!
Today her father was planning to personally teach her brother and his friends. This was the reason for her brother's vacation, as it was not often he was allowed back home. Magus Academy's strict rules were stifling after all.
Magus Academy, a combined effort of the clerics and royal family gave birth to this one of a kind school. Their courses were all the talk. Difficult but fulfilling, as famous professors, experts of their field as not many wouldn't know their names, watched over the classes. Giving advice when need be, even showing off their world renowned prowess of magic and or knowledge.
Commoners could only dream to send their children to this magic academy. Though there were other schools out there, teaching the basics of magic and common knowledge, they simply weren't Magus Academy. If their young could go, then life would hold no obstacles for them. Merely attending alone could boost their chances of gaining status. Making names would also be much easier.
All and all, Alicia's first thoughts on the school was a gathering of nobles with too much time on their hands. Of course her brother was not given that title. Her brother was special. One of a kind. As she saw it, he was the only one who did not slack in that school.
Passing through the gardens, past Sheila's enclosure, and through the barrack hallways, Alicia excitedly ran out and into the training field.
Normally her father would not allow Alicia to join these sparrings, but after much convincing, she won as her father has always been much too soft on her. That and her argument of wishing to spend time with him, sweet eyes full of tears, was hard for the man to deny.
"Big brother Huen!" Jumping into her brother's arms, Alicia instantly turned into a spoiled child upon recognizing her brother.
"Oof, oh Al, ahaha" Huen laughed, "Did you miss me that much?" He already knew the answer before she nodded her head. Cuddling up to her, lifting her off the ground he spun her around on his heels.
"Ahaha," Alicia giggled openly, "Higher Huen, higher!"
Huen complied with her wishes. Pounding his left foot upon the ground, earth propelling them high into the air.
"Hey Huen, that's not fair! Bring your sister down, I want to meet her!" From below, calling with a stomp of his foot, was a boy with sunlight hair dyed pink. His blue eyes squinted due to the sun's bright light.
"Even less of a reason to come back down." Sitting upon one of the lantern styled poles, Huen swung his legs back and forth as he held onto Alicia's waist. "Such rotten company my little Al does not need."
His crushed garnet hair which he'd inherited from their father, shined in the sunlight as the wind couldn't help caressing its splendor. Alicia loved his amber eyes which sparkled with mischief, another trait he'd gotten from their father. If she were to ever meet a younger version of their father, she believed he'd look just like Huen.
"Guess I have no choice," Sighing in regret, the pink haired boy shook his head, his arms out in defeat.
With a smirk, his hands twisted, following each other in a circle. Bending back, his footwork forming half circles until he stomped hard!
With a swoosh, a strong back wind forced Alicia and Huen off the light pole. Coming fast, colliding with the wind in a zipping sound, Alicia instinctually cushioned her brother's head with the back of her hand, catching something hard in her palm.
Both the pink haired and midnight haired boy by his side, were shocked. Blue and red stared wide eyed as their friend and his sister safely stepped upon the ground.
Only one wasn't shocked. The 14 year old boy who was quite tall for his age who gently placed his sister down. Huen took away the stone from his sister's hand, dusting off any dirt from within her palm.
"Your magic has returned? That's a relief, very good, very good!" Huen's eyes lit up as he rubbed Alicia's head, which she loved as she leaned in for more. "But this here isn't good. It came from something nasty, so best let big brother return it."
Not wasting any time, as soon as 'it' let his mouth, the stone flew out with a swoosh and hit the pink haired boy on the head.
"Youch! Huen that freaking hurt, you moron! Crap, dang it." Cradling his head tightly, he cursed aloud with tears clinging to his eyes.
"Watch your language around my sister." Huen glared at his friend. "Else it will be more than just a bump."
"Who's fault is it I'm cursing? I swear if I go bald because of you, I'll have Arvon set your hair on fire instead of your robes!"
"Should have known it was you."
"Yea, and it was hilarious. Would have been funnier if you ran out in your birthday suit for all to see. God that would have been such a sight. How would the girls take watching their god come out with nothing but skin?" He laughed heartily,
Alicia was shocked by these words. Truly, boys are so strange, even here. How do they bond on violence and humiliation? Better question is, how do they remain friends and not kill each other?
"So," The excessively extended word caught Alicia's attention. "Are you going to introduce us or what?"
Reluctantly, Huen did as he asked. Not because it was common courtesy. No no no, a boy with such a big sister complex, one whom was highly protective would certainly not give in so easily. It's thanks to his sister, the one his complex was strongly directed to had asked him sweetly.
Alicia nodded with curiosity, especially towards the pink haired boy. His trolling ways greatly amused her. "Big brother can I know your friends too?"
"Though big brother doesn't want to," Huen grumbled, a scowl between his brows as he relented. "Ah since it's a request from my darling sister, how can brother not comply?"
Shaking his head at her obvious excitement, Huen introduced the pink haired boy first as he pointed out. "The nasty boy who tried to harm your poor brother, is Luke Vemen, eldest son of Viscount Vemen. Watch Al, he's nasty and dirty so don't get too close."
"Some friend you are Huen. Nasty that, dirty that. You're just jealous and you know it." Luke looked generally hurt, grasping his heart as tears fell from his eyes dramatically. "Don't deny what's in your heart my darling, you know you love me and just are too afraid to say a word. Shu, don't worry, our love will- Youch!"
Stomping his foot into Luke's gut, Luke fell to the ground in a heap mumbling incoherently. "Just like I taught him, but he went the wrong route."
Alicia couldn't stop the laughter as her brother snorted in contempt. Moving on, he pointed to the taciturn boy standing straight. "Don't let this dull face fool you Al, this boy is worse than that idiot gasping on the ground. He set your poor brother on fire, changed my chair for black ice, and tried to kill me with his poisonous cooking when I was sick."
Huen looked pitifully towards his sister. Alicia rubbed his head soothingly urging him to continue. Wrapping her in his arms, placing his chin on her head he grumbled out the introduction. "Arvon Gallzen, the oldest son of General Gallzen."
"Ohh," Alicia lifted an eyebrow. Her brother has quite the assortment of friends. One is the Heroine's brother, the one who has just as big a complex as her own brother. While the other- well he's in a league all his own.
"It's nice to meet you, Luke." Alicia shook Luke's hand once he'd finally pulled himself off the ground. The heroine's brother was a lot different from the heroine herself. Which was a relief, one Mother Mary was already enough.
"It's nice to meet you, Arvon." Gripping hard but not too tight, Alicia shook the hand of the other boy with much difficulty. Since her brother kept smacking away his hand.
Surprisingly, the future heroine's knight in shining armor, was more black hearted then she'd thought. Yes this man was none other than the male lead of Libbyie Vemon's life.
"Ah," Alicia inwardly shook her head. Taciturn men are so boring. "Better her than me."
