Seasons changed and went by. Spring was upon us as the snow had melted and the flowers bloomed.
Today was the big day for those in the culinary market. Two honcho's of the bakery section, Pete and Kelly, were once again competing.
Their rivalry has become quite the sensation over the years. Bringing forth many spectators that increase the revenue for all the business in the culinary market.
Nearly 24 years, these two have been engaging in battles of flour and starch. At the beginning of each season, these two titan's face each other with multiple creations.
Today was special as it marks the breaking of a tie. Both were sitting at 49 wins and 49 loses. Only one will reach the 50 break point. Perhaps by then, we'd finally know who was the true bakery Honcho.
Who will it be?
Over the years, there have been many judges, but none were as unbiased as the current one. For the past two years, one taste tester has kept a level head, judging and not devouring.
Young Lady Alicia Cadarvic. She hasn't just been a judge, but also a guide to inspire. Surprisingly these two Honcho's took her words seriously despite her age.
Oldest daughter of Cláudia and Von Cadarvic. Her very status as a duke's daughter helped citizen's nod their heads, and turn a blind eye. Also she was too adorable, such eye candy for the souls. Not everyday a noble would take part in commons entertainment.
Overly excited and thrilled, Alicia couldn't wait as she pushed Krad to get to the market. They had to hurry. Her seasonal drama was about to begin and she had a front row seat!
She swore up and down, in Krad's past life, he had to have been a woman. By god he'd put the modern women to shame with how long he takes. Even her past life's friend was faster than him, and she was a perfectionist fashionista for goodness sake!
Krad laughed at the pouting Alicia as she shoved him with all her might. Pulling his sword he'd been polishing away, he reluctantly relented with her wishes.
Krad was helpless as her guard, wherever she went, he had to follow. With no complaints of course. He was the one who volunteered for the position after all. His way of paying a debt of gratitude.
Picking her up, cradling her legs as he lifted her to his shoulder, Krad and Alicia made their way to the market with time to spare.
* * *
Teeming with people, the marketplace roared into action when the judge sat upon her seat. Her guard took up a protective stance behind her.
Nothing fancy, a simple black wood chair from Pete's shop across the way. The table, carved from mahogany wood, was a beauty despite its simplicity. This one she recognized as Kelly's.
Shivering at the smooth surface, Alicia composed herself as she took in the set and actors.
Different from Television, real life comes with its own thrills. Not a thing is planned out, no script, no conclusion, no credits upon the end. Just life and the surprises that follow.
Sometimes, you can predict the outcome. Obvious as how all the pieces point to one conclusion.
Other times, you haven't a clue how things will end. Because the scene is so chaotic, the important details are covered up perfectly.
Yet then, there's the last outcome. Just like the first, the plot walks down a straight narrow hallway. No doors, no windows. Just the walls and two directions, back and forward.
Right when the story is reaching the point of prediction, it suddenly stops as it makes a left. The wall moves, and a door reveals itself as an unexpected twist occurs.
That's life for you. The calm before the storm.
So painfully thrilling, as it's painfully disappointing. The only program with a one star rating, yet still receiving massive views despite this.
Stepping out into the open an older gent coughed aloud, gathering everyone's attention, silencing the crowd.
Deep and aged, he spoke with magic empowered vocals. "I'd like to welcome many and all. As like the years before, I, Juvial, will be your host."
"Today the beginning of spring has once again come around. Along with what everyone's been waiting for. So I won't bore you with courtesies.
Cooking in the left corner. Dressed in a beautiful light yellow, golden trimmed vines wrapping the queen's gown, protecting her well, as her beautiful silver sunlight hair pulled back valiantly, is the one, the only, Kelly!"
Applause shook the air, fans roared with the sight of the aged baker. Beautiful, like a well aged wine. Kelly waved out to the crowd, set with a warm smile aligning her face.
"Cooking in the right corner. Suited in midnight black, bamboo trimmed in white, twisting the aged old legend's suit and apron, enhancing his wisdom as his silver crimson hair slicked back in his cap, is the one, the only, Pete!"
Stomping quaked the ground, stampeding the applause that came soon after. Pete's fans weren't willing to out do Kelly's, roaring with pure adrenaline.
Pete just smiled, as he set up his tools. The two chefs stared into each other's eyes. Flames alighting the already fired up crowd into roaring once more.
Alicia shivered at the sight and sounds. This was true tv showmanship in the making! Oh how she was loving every second of it. Every year it'd become even more enthralling.
"As we are all aware, today will break the tie of 49 wins between these two titans.
Last year Pete won with a splendidly crafted Croquembouche. The creation held together in caramel shaped bamboo, the shoots filled with chocolate and cream swirls. A lovely work of art.
Kelly herself had produced a wonder world of Religieuse towers, decorated with Chouquette, drizzled in honey and flakes of cinnamon.
Unfortunately hers did not win, but the sight and smell alone was a win all its own."
Jittering with excitement, the crowd was a mess of nerves, but remained silent. Waiting as they held their breath in expectation.
Juvial didn't keep them on their toes for long. Striding into the middle, he turned and smiled. "I believe that's enough from me. It's time we let the two titans take hold of the reigns. Kelly, Pete, what say you? Do you think it's time?"
Kelly smiled, "Yes, it's time to win."
"Ahahaha," Pete laughed loudly, "Indeed, it is time to win."
Mist spread across the ground, then BOOM!
Clapped into a cloud of smoke, the crowd roared when Juvial vanished and the fires on the stoves lit up.
Kelly and Pete got right to work.
Both had similar ingredients on their stations as both are craftsmen in the trade of flour and starch.
Starting off with the dough as both kneaded with their strong forearm muscles. Pushing into and out as they controlled the fire skillfully.
Ingredients floated around, magic grated, placing them into bowls for later use.
Both Kelly and Pete were neck and neck, both equally as skilled as the other, neither making mistakes as they fought like true chefs.
Never once was there a day when trying your best was not expected. Cooks pride themselves in their work, never accepting anything less than their best.
Other chefs of the culinary market nodded at this.
Time passed by, and no one could take their eyes away. Alicia was the same. The difference between cooking styles, between here and her past life, were too great. If all cooking shows in modern times could be portrayed like this, by god, Gordon Ramsay would be even more of a monster chef.
Shivered at the thought of an ultimate boss Gordon Ramsay.
Magic was used in place of the usual ovens, and stoves. Pots were made of marble and soapstone, magic holding them up as the chefs worked hard with efficiency.
If they needed water, they made it themselves. Fire of course was a snap away. Cutting? Who needs knives when wind magic is sharper than any blade? Even still, some chefs still used the blade as a bass, with wind magic they'd increase the thinness and splendor of the cuts.
Truly, such a show of talent and attention gripping skills of magic.
Sadly it has come to an end, the products have been created, and up for all to see.
Shock was an understatement at what the crowd were seeing. What? What was the meaning of this? Such strange yet simple creations.
Standing to the ready, Juvial walked forward, investigating the final products.
Both him and Alicia had to swallow a laugh. "Seems our two chiefs have finished. Let's begin with Kelly's this time.
Seems she's made a cake with layers in the shape of a sleeping, realistic puppy. A bed of frosting and star shaped candy crystals. Surrounding the cake, cinnamon rolls wrapped around more small sleeping puppies, also blanked in icing and star shaped sugar crystals sprinkled on top.
As for Pete, he's crafted a large layered cream horn, a bear cub made from what looks to be bread and butter, dipping its paw inside. Surrounding the smaller versions along with what looks to be chocolate layered cookies in the shape of paws.
Fantastic!
Both creations are equally adorable and simple, but it's the taste that matters. As I'm sure they'll be a delight on the palate, yet unfortunately it isn't I whom holds the honor to have taste.
Young Lady Alicia Cadarvic, are you ready to judge and pick our winner?"
