I felt unsettled remembering the past. The past where I wanted to bury. It was darker than my experience of betrayal from Ryan. It was something that I cannot undo and forever my loss because of my carelessness. Worst is that I can't recall much of it. I only knew I lost something important.
It happened 2 years ago. It was the 4th of July. Everybody was celebrating. Ian invited me to the party with his boyfriend. I would like to refuse but he insisted. He even told me that he will personally be dressed me up if I keep protesting! Hul! He seriously threatened me! I had no choice but to gather my butt and dress accordingly. I wear a royal blue fitted off-shoulder one-piece dress. It hugged my slim waist and shows a bit of my cleavage. The dress was decorated with small stones surrounding the shoulders. It looked simple but elegant.
"Oh my, you're such a beau!" Ian came and twirl me around. I only applied a small amount of makeup and red lipsticks. The shoes I wore is 3-inches (7.62 cm) high heels. I cursed inwardly expecting my feet will feel sore later.
His boyfriend, Andrew Ford, came to pick us up with his brand-new red shining car. He is an equal beauty too with his black hair and blue eyes. He is an inch taller than Ian and is older. Andrew was once married but only for a year. When he discovered that he desired Ian the moment he met him, he got confused. He decided later to divorce his wife and secretly formed a relationship with my friend. Even though its already 6 years, but they still can't publicly announce it. Maybe they will have a bit of courage later.
We greeted each other and proceed to the party. It was sponsored by Andrew's company. Though rumored that both of them were having an affair, but like me, presently suggested otherwise. Therefore, I silently agreed to become a shield for them.
The party was held at the mansion of the President of the company. It was surely big and splendid. I saw a lot of familiar faces in the area. I even saw mt superior talking to one of the bosses of our company.
"Happy 4th of July Miss Dianne!" I greeted her as soon as our eyes met.
"Alice Kim, you are also here. Happy 4th of July." she smiled as she acknowledged my presence. Alice Kim is my English name by the way. I was still staff at that time and a member of her team. "Who is with? The dress looks good on you by the way."
I felt shy but I smiled at her compliment. My boss rarely gives compliments unless you do a very good job. I'm not sure about her age, but she around in her late 40s. She looks professional in every way. Her presence alone screams I am not easy to deal with the type of person, but she is fair and just type of boss.
"I was invited by my friends to come over. You look good yourself Miss Dianne." I answered.
"Oho. Aren't we a sweet talker? Is it your first time attending this kind of party?" I laughed. I somehow knew that despite her serious facade lies a humorous woman only on "special" occasion.
"Yes." I nodded as a response. She gave a glass of wine when the waiter passed our way. "Thank you!"
"Drink up. You should enjoy and have fun. You should explore and get laid tonight." and she bade goodbye. I laughed inwardly. Get laid my ass. No way!
I looked around and saw some familiar faces. I was greeted by them and shared simple talk. The champagne tastes good. I took another glass and saw Ian. He waved at me indicating me to move beside him.
"Are you enjoying it?" He asked me.
"Yeah. Don't worry about me."
"It's almost counting. Stay beside me if you want to be kissed suddenly." He smirked when he saw my surprised face.
"W-what?"
"Didn't you know that it was a tradition that you can kiss a person after the count down on the 4th day of July. Who knows someone will suddenly grab you here." He seemed to enjoy it as he explained it to me.
"Oh, dear. Does that mean I will be kissed by you?" I teased as I drank the champagne. It won't be the first time though. He kissed me once when he saved me and pretended to be my boyfriend in front of Ryan.
"Aren't you greedy to be kissed? But I'm sorry little Miss, I might disappoint you of your expectation. I don't want to receive the wrath of my boyfriend tonight." He just throwback what I said. We both laughed at our humor.
