I stretched out my arms. My butt is getting tired of the same position I had the whole day. My whole body is getting stiff, my neck hurts and my hands are already frigid from encoding. I still have a few reports to finish. My professor at the university is a devil! Sniff! I have to finish it and I still have a mountain of paper works to do.
"Oh my Gosh dear Rim-rim. You looked haggard!" My very handsome housemate Ian commented. He called me Rim-rim because he doesn't like how to pronounce my name. Even though I told him that it means Drawing in our language, but he disliked it. Every time I look at him, I wanted to click my tongue. Even though he is the reincarnation of Adonis and his prince-liked image, his heart belongs only to one and that is his boyfriend who is an accountant at one of the big companies.
"Yeah. You could say that." I said lifelessly as I walked into the kitchen to get cold water. I'm so thirsty. Chocolate, I think I need chocolate too.
"Here." My very handsome housemate gave me a bar of chocolate. Ahhh! He is also an angel. Bless my soul!
" Thanks, yan!" I said appreciatively.
"You should take care of yourself you know. No one will pick you up if you looked like this."
"Damn! What should I do then? Hul! I can't even have you."
"Ewww! Don't say cringe things you know!" as if he was disgusted. I just throw him a smirk and walked to the living room and I sat comfortably on the sofa. I need to relax my aching body first. Ian followed suit and sat opposite to me. We both put our feet at the center table. He, too, slouched.
I have known him for 5 years. We were classmates before at university. He is half British and half-American by blood, but he is an American citizen. His family lives in a faraway land of Michigan from California. I was mesmerized at first when I saw him. He smiled at me. I thought he will be able to capture my heart but I suddenly felt something is off. I'm glad I listened to my very trusted instinct and found out that he is boyfriend material to another boy. He approached me one time and told me: "I think we will click." I was surprised and lifted my eyebrow.
"See I like your reaction already. Let's be friend's darling," he said smiling. He lifted his hand and I laughed taking it. "Ian Taylor Lavigne. I am not a relative of Taylor Swift and most probably not with Avril Lavigne." Apparently, this guy is 4 years younger than me.
"Kim Gue-rim. Though I don't know the names you mentioned earlier." I told him honestly.
"Gosh how could you be! Aside from AL, TS? My gosh!" his surprised face is worth seeing for and that was the start of our friendship story. He is intelligent and showed me a lot of ideas. And how did we live together? Well, I was the one who moved in with him. It was not because I want to but because I was put in some bothersome circumstances.
One day, my landlord asked me to move out. Though he was a gentle soul, his daughter was really a problem child. She sometimes went wild throwing things at home which was really bothersome. She even banged at my door telling me to get out. I almost called the police but the old man begged me not too and instead asked me to move out. As compensation, he gave me my advance payment for two months as well as the month worth of rent. My head ached as it was hard to find a decent house to live in. When I told Ian about it, he willingly opened his house to mine. I was doubtful at first since it is not normal in Korean culture to live together with a guy. I live in a semi-conservative country but since I was on bind, I gladly accepted it and moved in with him.
"Are you not interested in dating again?" he suddenly asked as I chomped the chocolate, he gave me. Eating chocolate is my stress reliever.
"No. Why?"
"Gosh. Are you going to grow old by yourself Rimmy?"
"Who knows? Ugh. I still have to finish my paper works you know. Besides, I would like to date someone that can catch my attention."
"Girl, I know you are very pretty and intelligent. But you are too choosy! Not everyone is like your ex-boyfriend and that bastard who took advantage of you."
"Ugh. Don't remind me of my dark past!" I panicked. My heart clenches remembering the mistake I made 2 years ago. I was traumatized and decided to focus on work and studies.
"Anyway, my boyfriend told me that someone wants to meet up with you. Would you be interested?"
"Let me think about it. For now, I have to finish my reports first." I finally said as I stand up and went to my room continuing my work.
