Chapter 8 - I'll keep her (6)

Jason didn't know what to expect, but he had an idea that would serve his own purposes in mind. He decided to spend the rest of the day, finishing off the work he brought home after lunch. Thinking of the advice given by the doctor, Jason took Karen bwith him to his study and let her sit at his table with fresh papers and writing tools then sat down to work. Jason was surprised by evening upon seeing the results of her time in the study. She had filled all the sheets he gave her with various poetry and rhymes, the sort that were taught in high schools. There were even nursery rhymes and various other literary work, some incomplete and others a combination of two similar works. Jason observed her neat and beautifully written text and wondered if she was truly sick at all. At that moment, he saw her grab a paper from one of his files, turning it over to continue writing. He quickly snatched it back. "You're not so sane after all" he murmured, holding her up and bringing her downstairs for dinner.

the table had been set and Nanny Jo, as well as the cook and other help stood around waiting for a consensus on the meals which had garnered Nanny Jo's disapproval for having strange ingredients.

"Jason, don't think I'm going to watch you eat these strange dishes without complaint. I had thought the cook was being eccentric this afternoon but imagine my shock when i saw this meal. Why has cabbage been replaced with spinach and the oil used in the meals is now coconut oil, and since when have you had shredded turkey soup, rather than shredded chicken soup? I really can't watch you sacrifice eating tomatoes an every other common vegetable."

Jason "..."

"You should at least make sure she has proper nutrition" Nanny Jo nagged, gesturing at Karen who had already taken a seat and picked up a piece of mutton to finish off.

Jason frowned, remembering what he could about the dumplings and sandwich she ate the day before, he grabbed the long list the cook held to his chest and cancelled flour, tomatoes, onions, carrot, beef and pork. Then handed it over to Nanny Jo. " Don't you want to cancel anything else?" Nanny Jo questioned, dissatisfied.

"Is milk used in making dumplings?"

"Yes, commonly."

"Then we can have that too" Jason answered, taking a seat to have his dinner.

Seeing that Karen still chose to eat with her hands, he grabbed them, cleaned them and fed her the meal.

Night came and Nanny Jo was still hanging around the house.

"Nanny, it's getting late. I'll ask the driver to drop you off" Jason with a dull expression left no room for negotiation .

"Are you really going to keep her in your room?" Nanny Jo questioned.

"Just go home Nanny." he got up and grabbed Nanny Jo's coat and placed it on her shoulder, while steering her towards the main door.

"Fine I'm leaving." Nanny Jo huffed. "But don't forget to call me if anything happens."

" Okay just go home"

Nanny Jo sighed and left. Jason returned to the living room and eyed Karen who sat on the carpet facing the TV. He wasn't sure if she understood the movie she was watching at all. He went and knelt beside.

"It's time for bed Karen. Let's go upstairs." He held her up and grabbed the remote to switch off the TV. "let's go" He coaxed, seeing the blank look on her face. He led her up the stairs to his room and tucked her in on the new bed with sheets in different shades of purple. Once she was tucked in, he turned to walk over to his own bed. She immediately sat up and watched him as he walked over to his bed. He didn't go back to her, but went to his bed and grabbed his laptop to work on.

The night continued like that in harmony. He was sitting up in his bed working, and she was sitting up in her bed, watching him till she fell asleep sitting up.

Noticing that she had fallen asleep, he went and tucked her in properly so she could rest well and went back to his bed.
