Chereads / LWS: Liye's Legacy / Chapter 37 - Leaving Without Bidding Farewell

Chapter 37 - Leaving Without Bidding Farewell

Lina quickly returned to the town and saw that Shiba was collecting the corpses of the Soul-eating Eagles and the remains of his broken weapons.

Without the corpses, there was no way others would believe that they had killed them all, so Shiba decided to collect them while Eini was busy healing the wounded.

As for the broken weapons, Shiba felt that he wasted too many resources of Border Town at once, so he hoped that with the fragments, the Lord of the town could recover a bit of the money used to buy them all.

At that moment, there were people digging in the ground to bury the deceased.

They knew very well that if they didn't deal with the corpses, those who survived might end up falling ill.

Meanwhile, Lina decided to offer a bit of help to the deceased.

"I shall grant you all the chance of reincarnating. You won't remember anything, but you will have a second chance in life."

Although her proficiency with the Laws of Life and Death was inferior to the one of Master Liye, as long as the souls weren't harmed, it wasn't difficult for her to make them reincarnate.

The areas attacked by Soul-eating Eagles didn't let the souls reincarnate naturally for a day. Thus, they could slowly eat after killing everyone.

Although some of them eat some souls directly, most souls were still remaining there.

Souls that have died through such agony could easily become evil spirits, so Lina decided to aid them in reincarnation despite being too difficult that those weak souls could suffer any mutation in a day. However, those souls were also easier to digest for the Soul-eating Eagles.

Lina helping them to reincarnate would also grant them better lives after reincarnation than doing it naturally. It was the blessing of a Law God. Even without any memories, it would easy for them to become far stronger than in their previous lives.

"I have already finished. Are you done?"

When Shiba was about to go and help to dig the graves, Eini appeared and spoke to him.

"I already have all the deceased beasts and the fragments of my weapons. I was planning to help them with the graves."

There were a lot of corpses, so the work of digging graves was a major one.

"That isn't a good idea. We need to return and report the situation. They are already healed, so they can deal with this kind of stuff by themselves, but we are the only ones that can report this to Border Town. By the way, I won't accept something as claiming all the credit to myself while you remain here."

Eini knew that Shiba had good intentions, but she also noticed that despite what seemed from the rumors about him, he didn't really care about fame.

However, Eini didn't like claiming fame from something she hadn't done, so she wouldn't allow Shiba to just remain there and ignore his part of the responsibility.

Since they needed to collaborate, they needed to share the repercussions of the outcome, which included fame and responsibility. They had already helped the people in the town, so their next step was obviously reporting the matter.

Shiba was really planning to suggest that Eini could just go back and claim the fame for herself, but after thinking about it again, given how much effort the Lord of the town put on preparing him, if it turned that he had been useless even if it was only in name, he would feel that he had let him down.

"You are right. Let's go."

Shiba used Wind Wings and flew up. Eini followed him immediately.

"You aren't going to bid them farewell?"

Although they needed to return soon, it didn't mean there wasn't time to even say goodbye before leaving.

"No. I know that they are grateful to me and want to show their thanks, but I am not worthy of that. Although we avoided the worst outcome, my lack of prevision provoked too many unnecessary deaths. If I had thought of them just after hearing the news instead of needing to have pointed out that the Soul-eating Eagles were going towards them, I wouldn't have spent so much time selecting weapons."

There was no way Shiba could have predicted that the Soul-eating Eagles would be going there. However, it was a fact that if he had reached the place five minutes earlier, a lot of lives would have been saved.

"It may sound cruel, but that was their fate. Fate is merciless, and we are still too weak to change it. As long as we train, we will be able to affect the fate and alter it, even saving someone fated to death would be easy."

Fate was something very ambiguous for most experts. However, it was a fact that the stronger one became, the easier it became fighting against fate.

At that moment, Shiba remembered how Master Liye saved him. He was certainly doomed to die, but Master Liye had saved him without any effort.

Thinking about that, he realized that if he had been as strong as Master Liye, he would have been able to save everyone in an instant.

"I think you already know, but powerful beings can't only destroy the bad fate but also the good one. Although a powerful being can save a life that it is about to die, it can also doom it to face a lot of dangers. Even if you become powerful enough to not fear anyone on this planet, just the act of interacting with weak people like them will be enough to harm them."

Eini easily saw through Shiba's thoughts.

If one couldn't protect them, then they would die, but if one could protect them, they were doomed to be separate.

Only when experts reached similar levels, they could freely interact with each other.

"Reality is really cruel..."

Unless he could control freely the effects he had on fate, an expert wouldn't be able to interact freely with weaklings. Someone at Mortal Rank could be destined to great things on a planet, but that could easily be destroyed by randomly meeting a Law God.

"You seem quite knowledgeable about those matters. Do you know powerful experts? By the way, what is your name?"

The only powerful expert that Shiba knew was Master Liye, so he was interested.

Moreover, only at that moment, he noticed that he didn't know the name of the girl that had been fighting with him.

"Oh, sorry. My name is Eini. I already heard that you are called Shiba. As for powerful experts, my father is an Origin God, and he has a lot of subordinates that are very strong, but I didn't interact too much with them. Right now, my sister should be hidden in the shadows in case I met any deadly danger."

Since Shiba had a Fake Origin Path, she didn't mind telling him her background.

"Is your sister strong?"

Since Eini had someone protecting her, he wondered why she didn't help them before.

"Very strong. She can only help me if I am going to die. Otherwise, it would harm my fate too much. After all, she is one of the five strongest Law Gods."

Eini was prideful of her sister because it wasn't easy being considered one of the five strongest Law Gods.

"Are you serious?"

For others, that title might not mean much, but Shiba knew that Master Liye was also one of the five strongest Law Gods. He felt that it was difficult to believe that another member of that group was Eini's sister.

"Of course! Have you heard of the five strongest Law Gods? Well, you also have a Fake Origin Path, so it isn't strange that you have that kind of information. Don't tell me that you have met another member of that group."

By Shiba's face, she could guess that it wasn't that Shiba just heard of the five strongest Law God, but that he was probably related to one of them somehow.

Eini was feeling fun at how easy she was reading Shiba's thoughts through his reactions.

"Fake Origin Path? How did you know that I have it?"

Shiba was scared when he heard that Eini knew about his Fake Origin Path. Moreover, it seemed that she also had one.

"Don't be scared. Your Fake Origin Path might be the best type of Fake Origin Path, but the same can be said of mine. Fake Origin Paths created by Origin Gods are the best, and one can only have one Fake Origin Path, so you shouldn't be so scared."

Given that her father was an Origin God that had trained the Origin Path, it wasn't difficult for all members of her faction to have a Fake Origin Path of that level.

"Is that so? Anyway, my master told me to never speak about this to others."

Shiba didn't think that Eini was lying, but she had discovered his secret so easily that he couldn't help but be scared.

"So, you obtained the Fake Origin Path from your master? To be accepted as a disciple by a figure capable of giving you a Fake Origin Path of this level, you are surely talented. Don't worry, I just told you this because you also have one. I shouldn't tell this to others, and I won't."

From Eini's point of view, it didn't matter if Shiba was the son of a powerful faction or had been accepted as a disciple. In fact, being accepted as a disciple and gifted that Fake Origin Path was far more shocking than having been born with a good background.

"Yes. I can't tell you about my master's name, but he is also one of the five strongest Law Gods."

In the end, Shiba decided that he could trust Eini, but he still wouldn't speak about Master Liye's name since he had been warned against it.
