Chapter 42 - The Esteemed Guest of the Lord of the Town

Two weeks after the incident with the Soul-eating Eagles, most people had already forgotten about it.

There was some panic when it was announced, but since the beasts never reached the town, the situation didn't have a big impact on the citizens.

As for the matter of the underworld gang, although some people had friends among those who died, they didn't dare to blame the Lord of the town for getting rid of them. After all, it was their own fault for joining a criminal organization.

The nights on the town became safer after that day, but people still didn't like to go out for fear of criminals acting on their own. A lot of those criminals disappeared due to the fear of being annihilated, but it was difficult to drop the criminality rate to zero.

However, even those criminals never appeared near places where Shiba and Eini were. They didn't know that Eini was implicated in the annihilation matter, but their team's fame grew so quickly that the criminals didn't have the guts.

A pair of kids bringing several Level 8 and Level 9 beasts at once was far too scary. Moreover, the corpses of the beasts were in a perfect state, so it didn't seem that there had been a huge struggle.

Messing with a team capable of killing so many strong beasts with ease wasn't something the scarce remaining criminals dared to do.

That made that the areas near the houses of Shiba and Eini became as safe as the area near the residence of the Lord of the town. No one dared to commit any crime there.

In those two weeks, Shiba's level remained the same, but he had improved a lot on his skills.

In that area and without lucky encounters or extreme battles, it wasn't that easy for him to advance to Level 8.

He hadn't mastered any of his skills in those two weeks, but his proficiency was enough to make him far stronger than before.

After two weeks, Eini and Shiba were already so used to working as a team that felt like if they had always been working together.

"What does the Lord of the town want from us? I was eager for today's hunt."

Walking beside Shiba, Eini was pouting. At that moment, both were walking towards the residence of the Lord of the town.

"He wouldn't summon us if it weren't important. We can still go hunting later. Anyway, at our pace, all the strong beasts will be annihilated."

Strong beasts weren't that near the town, but since both could fly at a speed superior to running and had spatial rings, it was quite easy for them to reach those areas.

However, they were so efficient while hunting that it was starting to become difficult to find strong beasts even at those places.

At the same time, the amount of money they obtained wasn't something they could count easily. It wasn't an exaggeration considering them the richest in the town excluding the Lord of the town based just on money.

"Well, I know that. Maybe we should leave this town if that happens. I really don't have any reason to remain here. If we haven't formed a team to hunt, I would have already left."

Eini didn't dare to go to the arid zone alone since she met those guards, so there was nothing left to do in that place for her. However, since she was having fun while hunting with Shiba, she forgot about leaving since it wasn't like she had a reason to leave.

"Other areas are better than this one to train, so it is a good idea. With our abilities, it shouldn't be difficult to reach another town."

While Shiba felt somewhat indebted to the Lord of the town, he knew that he couldn't remain at that place to become a powerful expert.

Eini had been traveling alone before, so if she was able to reach Border Town safely, there was no reason for both of them being unable to do the same.

"Then, we can talk about this after hearing whatever the Lord of the town wants to say. I have memorized all the dangerous areas. Thus, as long as we avoid those, traveling shouldn't be difficult."

Although Eini was strong and could fly, as long as one's rank was high enough, flying without skills was easy, so any area with people at that level was deemed as a forbidden zone by Eini. The same applied to areas with flying beasts that were far stronger than her.

As long as the enemy couldn't fly, she was always confident of escaping even if the enemy were far stronger than her.

"Let's do that."

Eini was usually in charge of any planning, so Shiba wasn't planning to argue about it. After all, she had been preparing for being left alone in that world while Shiba had a huge lack of knowledge due to his past.

It didn't matter that he turned more intelligent and had learned a lot of things after meeting Master Liye, he couldn't compare with someone like Eini that had been preparing her whole life with the help of an Origin God.

Soon, both of them reached their destination and were guided to the room where the Lord of the town was waiting.

"Welcome! I have been waiting for you. First, let me introduce this person here. He is my esteemed guest."

There was an elderly man who was sitting near the Lord of the town. Eini couldn't help but sweat once she noticed that the elderly man was more powerful than those guards that had chased her.

Of course, he was still nothing compared to her sister and father, but still, that man wasn't someone Eini could deal with. In fact, she didn't think she could escape from him either.

"He is the expert that the country sent to help us to deal with the attack of the Soul-eating Eagles. Usually, no one in the country would be able to order him around, but he was somewhat near when it happened, and the potential danger of the Soul-eating Eagles was just too high."

The Lord of the town was mighty usually, but besides that elderly man, he didn't feel different than a kid.

"So, you two are the ones who killed the Soul-eating Eagles. You contributed greatly to the country."

The elderly man spoke while looking carefully at Shiba and Eini.

"You aren't bad, but you are still unworthy of hearing my name. However, given your merits, I will give you this."

Two envelopes flowed towards Shiba and Eini as the elderly man spoke.

"These are recommendation letters for my grandson's academy. I was on my way to visit him when I received the notice of the Soul-eating eagles. It is the second one in the country, and the best you can enroll without reaching Rank 1 first."

Although the elderly man spoke the truth, there were several dozens of academies about really as good. It was just that the last time that all the academies competed against each other, his grandson's academy won by a stroke of luck, so the title of the second best was awarded to it until the next competition.

As for the first, only the official academy of the country could have that title, and no one planned to change that fact.

"You two can mostly be considered average there. Without this recommendation letter, it may be difficult for you to enter with your current strength, but my grandson will never ignore a recommendation letter written by myself."

The elderly man didn't hold Shiba and Eini in high regard, but it was a fact that they managed to accomplish some feats that were impressive given their age and strength, so he decided to send them to his grandson since he was looking for good students.

There was a need to reward them with something, so he felt like killing two birds with one stone. Even if they turned up to be useless, two more students wouldn't harm his grandson, and if they failed to reach Rank 1, they could just be kicked out as the rules said.

"You can go if you want, but I am not forcing you. It is enough. Farewell."

Seemingly bored for having to do such a meaningless task, he left before anyone else managed to react.

"Don't take it personally. That person is at the pinnacle of Rank 8 and has lived for more than twenty thousand years. If it wasn't because his lifespan seems to be starting to near the end unless he reaches Rank 9, he wouldn't even care about our lives, but he accepted so that his grandson will be highly regarded even after his death."

The Lord of the town was contacted and received a full explanation previously.

That elderly man wasn't someone that could be offended, or no one would be able to defend them. He had been quite feared in the past for how he acted but calmed down after the issue with his lifespan.

However, the Lord of the town believed that Shiba was backed by a Law God so that the elderly man really didn't mean anything. Of course, nothing to Shiba didn't mean that the Lord of the Town could offend him.

Lina had been in the same room as them the whole time, but no one could see her. She was paying attention to that elderly man because if he tried anything against Eini and Shiba, she would have killed him on the spot.

Thus, the Lord of the town wasn't that far from the truth. Although it would be bad to have Lina interfere directly, the one that would die in case of conflict would be the elderly man.
