Chapter 41 - Erradicating the Underwolrd Gang

Eini smiled while observing the last man in front of her.

"You are the last member of the gang here, but not the last in the town. You looked like the one with the highest position here, so I have let you live the longest."

The man who felt that he had been lucky to survive finally noticed that he wasn't lucky before Eini's next words confirmed it.

"Tell me about all your companions. If you tell me the truth, I will burn you quickly. If you lie or refuse to speak, I will burn you slowly. I can also heal you to avoid your death until you spoke the truth, so don't think to escape by dying. Your fate is in my hands, and before you think about tricking me, I need to tell you I am very good seeing through lies."

That gang was already Eini's enemy, so Eini wanted to eradicate it as soon as possible. Moreover, in terms of methods to make someone speak the truth forcefully, she was far better than even the Lord of the town.

That man was indeed someone who knew a lot about the gang due to having quite a high position. He was also the one who accepted surrounding Eini once their presence was revealed. His actions of commanding the rest were quickly spotted by Eini at that time.

Although people in the gang didn't have a strong sense of companionship with all the other members, no one wanted the whole gang to be eradicated. Thus, it didn't matter how many members were caught in the past, no one betrayed the gang. The act of that man of revealing the positions of the others was already one of the greatest betrayals the gang had in ages, but they never thought that Eini would be that strong to annihilate them.

"I will never betray the gang!"

Although he feared Eini, he didn't think that she would be able to force him to speak.

However, for half an hour, he was begging for a quick death after explaining everything he knew. At that moment, he just wanted to die quickly.

When the torture started, he tried to tell some lies, but Eini saw through him easily. Later he tried to just mention those he disliked or didn't care too much, but he tried to protect others.

However, in the end, he wasn't able to endure and ended up speaking the truth. He stopped caring about others, and just wanted to put an end to his own suffering.

As someone who decided to become a criminal because it was easier than putting effort into living honestly given his situation, he didn't have a will strong enough to endure the methods Eini used. After all, those were created by her father, an Origin God. Even when applied by a mortal, it wasn't something easy to resist. Of course, an Origin God could obtain any information from a mortal in an instant, there was no need for any special method, he just created it to help his daughters.

The method used some traces of the Death Law to affect the target's soul. Although the quantity of the Death Law was minimal and couldn't be controlled for anything else, it was a dreadful method.

That night, fire illuminated the city. Many buildings serving as hideouts for gang members were set on fire, and by gathering information from the victims, Eini had pursued everyone belonging to that gang and killed them. Of course, she also gathered some information whenever she noticed that someone had an important position.

Eini killed her way until she finally reached the place where the boss of the gang was hiding. He had hidden as soon as he noticed that something was amiss, but after Eini had managed to kill everyone else, she also learned about the hideout location.

The boss of the gang was quite strong since he managed to resist for five whole minutes battling before he was defeated, and Eini started to force him to spill out all his secrets.

Of course, if it weren't because Eini wanted to achieve a perfect victory without being hit by her opponent even once, she would have finished earlier, but she didn't want to achieve such a victory.

Moreover, given that she had enough time to prepare, she could have just used the same attack she had used against the last Soul-eating Eagle, but that would have been too exhausting, so she discarded the idea.

Eini had planned to finish before dawn, but at the time the boss of the gang died, there were still several hours remaining until dawn.

"It has been easier than expected. Well, it was just a small gang."

The night of the day that the biggest problem of the town had been resolved, the rulers of the night on Border Town, the other big problem of Border Town, had been annihilated by a single girl without too much effort.

Eini had controlled herself, so there hadn't been any damage to buildings unrelated to that gang, and she didn't kill any innocents either. Only those belonging to the gang died.

As for the reasons that the members had to join that gang, she didn't care. They were the ones that had targeted her first, and they belonged to an organization that was declared enemy of the city by a decree of the Lord of the town a long time ago.

After killing the boss, Eini decided to return to her house to sleep for a while. She didn't plan to sleep at first since she believed that it would be almost dawn when she finished, but with so much time remaining until dawn, she didn't have any reason to not sleep.

While Eini returned to her house, Lina was clapping her hands with a smile on her face. She had been observing Eini the whole time. For someone at her level, sleep wasn't needed at all under normal circumstances, although a lot of experts just did it for pleasure.

"As expected of my sister. She knows how to pull out the roots. She had been ruthless with her enemies as it should be."

Lina knew very well that being soft with enemies was just asking to die. Although she felt that her sister was sometimes a bit too mischievous when acting, that gang had set their fate at the moment they plotted against Eini. Thus, even if Eini hadn't acted, once she had left the town, Lina would have killed them all just as Eini guessed. Of course, Lina didn't want to act as if Eini could solve it herself, so she was proud that Eini managed to annihilate the whole gang by herself.

It wasn't good to exaggerate a grudge over a small thing, but that gang tried to capture and kill Eini for selfish reasons, so it was proper that they weren't shown any mercy.

At dawn, there was some ruckus due to the burned building and the disappeared people that were believed to have been burnt to ashes.

However, after a bit of investigation, the guards noticed that there were some traces that the underworld gang was using some of those buildings, and they knew that Eini and Shiba had a conflict with one of them before going to kill the Soul-eating Eagles.

Given the burnt state of everything, the Lord of the town was convinced that Eini took part in it since she was the best at using fire in the town. She could even burn that strong Soul-eating Eagle, so he didn't doubt about Eini being able to burn the members of the gang. As if Shiba collaborated or not, he didn't know, but anyway, it didn't matter.

The victims were most likely enemies of the town and that the culprit was possibly at least one of the two heroes that had just saved the town. The Lord of the town didn't hesitate to make an announcement.

"This night, we have launched an attack to put an end to the illegal activities of the criminals that had been a tumor for this town since years ago. We noticed some strange movements thanks to yesterday's crisis, so we decided to act before they had time to hide again. We will be proceeding with the cleanup, so please stay away from the burnt places until we finished."

Killing those criminals was a huge merit, but it was difficult to say if someone would have been close enough to a member to want revenge. After all, a lot of members lived mixed with ordinary citizens. Thus, the Lord of the town decided to lie and say that it was all a planned activity he had ordered.

Against Eini or Shiba, someone might try to ask for revenge and assault them, but no one had the guts to go against the Lord of the town. Even if they had the guts, they would die quickly since the Lord of the town wasn't someone that had already reached Rank 2. Those at the Mortal Ranks didn't stand any chance against him if he got serious.

The next morning, Shiba and Eini met as promised.

Both had heard the Lord of the town's announcement, but they didn't comment about it.

Shiba believed that the Lord of the town did it as he had announced that morning, so it was a matter unrelated to him. Instead, he felt that talking about their plans for hunting would be more productive.

Eini knew that the Lord of the town was covering her, but she didn't feel that her act the previous night was worthy of mentioning to Shiba since it was too easy.

She planned to go and speak with the Lord of the town later and tell him what she had learned, but she felt that going to hunt with Shiba was more important than reporting what she learned.
