Nana Gi was not happy but she had no choice in the matter. Standing before her were 16 people, including the King all waiting for her to start a baking class. Nana Gi was a very proud person in her lifetime she baked and cooked for countless royals, nobles and diplomats. All praised her abilities and tried to poach her for their own homes. However she was loyal to only one person. That was the late Queen Isadora, Esai's birth mother.
They had been friends since childhood, her mother was actually Isadora's wet nurse so they grew up practically like siblings so when Isadora was shipped off to the palace as a Queen's candidate she took Gi along. Gi was able to charm the kitchen staff and was able to prepare all of Isadora's meals, snacks and most importantly her desserts.
It was by mere chance that the King had come by when they were having a picnic under a tree. Gi had baked a pineapple upside down cake and the King was interested. From there the two talked and got to know each other better. After there first shared dessert the King would constantly look for Isadora and wondered what they would be having that day.
However fate was not so kind. Gi was later on kidnapped and r*ped by a group of knights. When Isadora found out she reported it to the King. Instead of justice the King forced the leader of the knights to take responsibility of the incident and forced him to marry Gi, even though he already had a fiancee. The King also decreed that Gi and her whole family would always have a job at the palace, especially if they had Gi's kitchen abilities.
Gi thanked her luck for not getting pregnant with some unknown man's child but she worried about her new husband. During their first night Gi found out how passionate he was. It took a year for her body to recover from the trauma and her husband patiently waited. After the recovery, they had a good handful of children while Isadora was crowned Queen. Because of their situations they were no longer able to see each other as much as they used too.
The King begged Gi to come to the castle whenever they held banquets so they could brag about the desserts and food. However Gi hated coming back to the castle. She could never really let go of that night, no matter how much love and affection Greyn gave her but she couldn't miss a chance to see her one and only Isadora.
When Isadora was murdered, Gi vowed to never set foot in the palace again. Instead Gi opened up her own little cafe and worked hard every day. When her oldest daughter came of age she entered the palace and found love with a kind scholar. They got married right away and she gave birth to a set of twin boys. The boys were then entered into the castle daycare program and her daughter, Franny kept her job.
Nana Gi felt lonely and missed her first grandchildren and her family couldn't refuse the King's goodwill. Thus Nana Gi had found a reason to came back to the palace but she was still a busy person. She could only come on her days off and even then it was only once every month, she did this for 3 years.
When Gi came she always made an effort to bring back a basket full of desserts but as a successfully business woman she couldn't pass up an opportunity with making money. She decided to raffle off her extra special treats that don't appear at the cafe unless it was a festival. While her family got to take home the ones she set aside.
However today was the day that karma got her. She shouldn't have done back handed deals to ensure that certain raffle numbers were selected. If she just played fair she would have avoided the gazes of a certain pair of royals.
Nana Gi was thrilled when she heard the late King had, cough, cough, passed away but she wasn't that thrilled that both men, the offspring of the bastard King that betrayed her beloved Isadora were now standing before her. Eyes sparkling with anticipation as they wore aprons.
Nana Gi clicked her tongue, if the youngest wasn't so loved by Isadora she wouldn't even have considered to do this favour for him. Even when he asked, Nana Gi made him into her personal slave and made him run errands for her. To her surprise he did everything she asked without complaint. When the brat came back to change the plans to make it a group baking class she practically lost her head. She yelled at Calder until her lips turned blue.
Again he surprised her by humbling himself and offered to be her slave for a week. Nana Gi couldn't pass up such an opportunity, the brat could get the King to make better arrangements for her grand kids and more importantly such eye candy could be working for her for free. Especially now, during the festival, women would rush to come in to see the Duke and stay to watch his muscle move underneath a tight uniform. Nana Gi happily agreed with a grumpy face.
"Good afternoon everyone." Nana Gi started, the royal brats faces lit up even more to the point it as blinding. Nana Gi had to avert her gaze. "Today we will be making two different desserts. The first one is a cherry sauce that you can use for a variety of things. Like waffles, ice creams, fruit tarts and for what we will be making right after, angel food cake." Nana Gi announced.
Calder smiled brightly as he turned to Esai. "I didn't think she was going to show use how to make angel food cake!" He whispered. Esai blushed as his body trembled from excitement. "It's her best dessert, Nana Gi is not holding back." Esai replied. "Cough, cough, I will need everyone's full attention so that there are no missed steps." Nana Gi said in a stern voice.
"Yes Nana Gi." The siblings said in unison. Nana Gi's eyes grew wide, she then shook her head in disbelief. Even thought the boys are the bastard King's offspring, she could sill see Isadora in both kids. Though Calder was not her child, Isadora still showered Calder with love and affection. A smile spread across Nana Gi's face. "Now, if you had the choice of picking cherries would you want the sweetest and ripest ones, sour or close to spoiling ones?" Nana Gi asked.
Calder already knew the answer as he helped Nana Gi prepare all the ingredients.
