Chapter 27 - Am I Really Calder?! Part 1

Calder looked down at the small hand that held a small chunk of fabric. He didn't know what to with it. A thought came up telling him to slap the hand away but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

"That's right Calder, only cowards know how to raise a hand against women and run away." A female voice whispered into his ear. "Yes." Calder thought. Raising a hand against a frail looking girl was disgraceful and running away would be worse.

"R.... n.... a....w....y." A voice said but he couldn't hear it clearly. All he could focus on was the was the way Lady Britille looked at him. Full of concern, pity and fear. "What do you want to know." Calder asked courtly. "Why can't we go sit somewhere and talk?" Lady Britille asked as her eyes looked to the left. Calder looked a little way past her and sighed.

"We can go to one of the drawing rooms." Calder replied promptly. Lady Britille let go off his jacket and beamed. "Thank you." She said happily. Calder stood there staring, waiting for Lady Britille to make the first move.

"Cough, sorry your highness but my lady does not know the layout of the palace." Lady Britille's handmaid said as she kept her head bowed. "I see." Calder responded as he raised a suspicious eyebrow at the handmaid. "Mmmh, then follow me." Calder said and walked away.

He didn't bother to look back and see if the two women were following him. He was annoyed. He knew what they told him was a lie, how could someone say they didn't know their way around the palace yet show up at the training grounds with a basket in hand. Plus it seemed that she knew Commander Wystan, something wasn't adding up.

As they reached the drawing room Calder opened the door, he felt his vision slightly blur and he hesitated. He couldn't move his body. "Th... is... wr..." He heard in his head. "Your highness?" Lady Britille called out from behind him. Calder shook his head slightly shook his head then just walked in. Not even bothering with etiquette. He sat himself down and waited for the ladies to take their places.

Lady Britille sat down and looked around the room in an uncomfortable manner. "You said you want to talk, then talk." Calder snapped. He could feel a headache coming and he really didn't want to spend too much time with Lady Britille and her handmaid.

"Potential psychopath!" He heard clearly and his eyes grew wide. He quickly looked around and saw that the women were looking at him with concern. "Talk, no one else is here." Calder said as he furrowed his brows further.

"Oh!" Lady Britille said with a small jump and then instantly gave Calder a sorrowful look. "I'm sorry. I thought you wanted to talk." Lady Britille said in a feeble voice. "Why would you think that?" Calder snapped. He had no need or want to talk to this lady so why drag him here.

"You were wondering if you could bleed, die and something about your final destination.... That is not something you should be openly talking about by yourself." Lady Britille replied as her innocent looking eyes sparkled at him.

Calder glared at Lady Britille, he wasn't sure what her game was but she was definitely playing a game with him.

A memory slowly surfaced in his mind and it repulsed him. He saw a woman dressed and painted up like some sort of child with overly baggy clothes and cat ears. She was giving him the same look. She only showed him that kind of face when she wanted something but when he tried to find out what it was, she would always pretend to be a small, cute animal saying she didn't need anything but his love. It was all a lie.

She wanted his money, his power and a life of luxury as she made obscene videos of herself as she played online games. As a fool he fell for it. She made him feel manly and desirable so in turn he would spoil her with everything she ever wanted and more.

When he found out the truth, he was devastated. She never loved him, 2 years of loyalty and devotion was slapped with a laugh in his face. She became a superstar and didn't need him anymore.

He swore he would never fall again for the pitiful, sweet animal look again. "Videos? online games? Superstar?" Calder whispered to himself. "I'm sorry your highness. I didn't hear what you asked." Lady Britille called out.

Calder raised his gaze and glared at Lady Britille. "No, not this time." Calder thought as he gave Lady Britille a cold glare. He knew better this time and he would never fall for her act.

"Lady Britille, wondering about my own life is normal, especially if someone went through what I did. I thought I needed to change myself and thus contemplated if it was even worth it. Yes I bleed, yes I feel pain and no matter how strong I get I will always be nothing more then a human. So Lady Britille what did you exactly hear? What is it that you really wanted to say me?" Calder said harshly. He couldn't stop his anger from rising.

"I-I-I-I just wanted to make sure you wouldn't... you know." Lady Britille said as she averted her gaze. "You don't have to worry about me. We are nothing special to each other so I will be calling it a day." Calder said as he slowly rose. "Wait!" Lady Britille shouted as she tried to grab Calder's sleeve but he dodged her.

"We are done." Calder said sternly. Lady Britille looked up and tried to protest but Calder's scowl stopped her. "Your concern is not needed and I hope to never hear another word of this from anyone else or you. I don't want any misunderstanding to reach his Majesty's ears either." Calder said as he gave Lady Britille a warning glare.

He then turned and walked out of the room. "I seriously don't like her." Calder thought as he stormed back to his study. When he opened the door he saw that the room was empty. Calder sighed and walked up to his desk. He sat down and decided to bury himself in work.
