Chapter 17 - Goddess Contract

The Heart Of Nature.

Mohai knew what the green glow was at first glance.

The Heart Of Nature could greatly reduce the monster's level of hatred of a player, allowing the player to walk past a group of monsters with ease and possibly communicate with a monster with intellect. The complete Heart Of Nature could even stop many Bosses from attacking proactively.

However, the early stages of a Broken Heart Of Nature had a lot of restrictions and the effects were not as stellar.

The effect of the title could only be used once a week and for no longer than five hours each time. At its current stage, it could only affect monsters below-level 20 and was ineffective against a Boss.

On top of that, while the title was in effect, the player could not perform any actions that would aggro the monsters. Otherwise, the effect of the title would disappear immediately.

Mohai was not a real Boss yet and was only an Elite, so the Heart Of Nature worked on him.

As for the bandit goons, all they did was look at the player with vigilance. As long as the player did not attack them or open the treasure boxes to aggro them, they would not attack the player proactively.

"WhiteNightFirefly?" Mohai recognized the player and his eyes gleamed.

WhiteNightFirefly was a rather poetic in-game name, but the owner of the name had a common face, probably the most common one that the game could offer.

Even in the next five years, there were only so many players in the game who would know this player. Starting from the very first day, WhiteNightFirefly never did anything that could attract the other players' attention just like her average looks.

If Mohai had not been a guild master of a famous mission-focused guild, which led him to cross paths with many players in the game, he would never have gotten to know WhiteNightFirefly at all.

As a fellow mission lover, Mohai had once invited WhiteNightFirefly into his guild since as the game progressed, a lot of missions required teamwork, and the large-scale main mission of the story was so massive that the difficulty for a solo player to carry out the mission alone was infinitely high.

However, WhiteNightFirefly had rejected Mohai's invitation back then. She did not say why, but in another mission after that, Mohai found out that she was with The Richest.

Did The Richest use her to approach him with the Heart Of Nature? What for?

WhiteNightFirefly stopped around 1.5 meters away from Mohai. With her common features, even if she was the only player around, she looked inconspicuous.

"I heard you have the ability to snatch an Adventurer's equipment. I want to ask for your help to snatch a player's equipment." WhiteNightFirefly carefully approached Mohai and only revealed her intention after she made sure that he was not hostile.

Those Thieves from earlier were from The Richest!

Mohai knew it the moment WhiteNightFirefly opened her mouth.

A guild could only be formed at Level 10 with a Gold coin. A Gold coin was not a problem for any big guild, but no player had reached Level 10 on the second day yet. The members of the three major guilds all looked similar, so without a guild emblem, Mohai did not recognize ShadowWolf and the others.

"That's right. I can snatch an Adventurer's equipment, but why should I help you?"

Mohai's answer was a cut-out from a standard NPC's conversation. In simpler words, he wanted to get something good out of the deal.

The Heart Of Nature was not an almighty title, it allowed the player to communicate with intellectual monsters but to ask for a monster's help, the player must offer something that could capture the monster's interest. Many monsters were only interested in specific items and without those items, the monsters would not be moved.

Mohai wanted to know on the second day of the game, what item could WhiteNightFirefly offer to pique the interest of a bandit leader.

"Deep Dark Originite." WhiteNightFirefly took out a stone that glowed in gray as she looked confidently at Mohai.

Deep Dark Originite?!

In his past life, Mohai had seen the Deep Dark Originite a few times. The stone's description was 'this stone is irresistible by low-level monsters and can be traded for some extremely good benefits.'

Back then, Mohai could not understand why, but after his reincarnation, he finally comprehended it.

The Deep Dark Originite was the hardest material to obtain at the current stage, but it was the necessary material to upgrade the Reincarnation Pool from Level 2 to Level 3. When the description said that low-level monsters could not resist it, it was not an exaggeration at all. The temptation was infinitely bigger especially for Mohai whose Reincarnation Pool had reached Level 2.

"I see. This stone is actually useful, so what do you want me to do? Do note that if it's too dangerous, I won't say yes."

Mohai nodded in agreement after he saw the Deep Dark Originite.

Given The Richest's financial status, Mohai could actually demand more benefits, but he did not want to. His current actions had strayed too far away from a common bandit leader's behavior. With the irresistible Deep Dark Originite on offer, demanding for more was an unusual act for the player of the system. Based on his knowledge alone, he had never seen a Boss, even a greedy one, demand more after seeing the Deep Dark Originite.

"It's simple. I have a Goddess Contract here, so let's sign it and with Lady Isabelle's recognition, I'll gain the ability to summon you from afar. When you are summoned, you must snatch an item called El Staff from a player named GrayFox for me. After that, the contract will be deemed complete."

WhiteNightFirefly heaved a breath of relief after she saw that Mohai agreed. She took out an ancient scroll from her bag.

The Goddess Contract?

As expected of a super guild! It was just the second day of the game and they could already provide so many decent items!

As for the contracts between players and monsters, there was the normal kind and there was also the special kind like the Goddess Contract.

The biggest difference between the two was that the Goddess Contract could provide some stronger ancillary means based on the contents of the contract. In WhiteNightFirefly's case, she could summon him from afar, whilst a normal contract would make him walk instead.

However, even though the ancillary means the Goddess Contract provided was strong, it was applicable under normal circumstances. In a special situation, the Goddess Contract's ancillary means would be heavily limited and might not be of use at all.

Is she after the El Staff of the Fortune Alliance? It's just like the rumors. The open and secret competition between the three major guilds started from day one and have lasted throughout the game.

Mohai was curious about who WhiteNightFirefly wanted him to snatch from, and when he heard the name GrayFox, his curiosity was remedied.

GrayFox and El Staff were very famous in his past life.

As a Level 5 growth-type weapon of Dark Gold grade, it could be finally upgraded into a Level 60 Legendary weapon.

In the past life, GrayFox wielded El Staff and raised a storm in the game. Numerous players died by his hand. Until GrayFox reached Level 60 and got a stronger Legendary weapon, the glory of El Staff slowly dimmed.

The Richest and Fortune Alliance positioned themselves too similarly, it would be worth it for The Richest to get the El Staff at such an early stage regardless of how big the cost was.

Besides that, the cost that WhiteNightFirefly paid was not at all heavy in the eyes of a super guild.

The Deep Dark Originite was useful to a Boss but was worthless to a player. If she could get the El Staff from GrayFox with it, it would be a triumphant deal.

The Richest planned delicately for the staff, but unfortunately, they approached the wrong person!

The Goddess, Lady Isabelle, was on the monster's side since a monster would never reject a Goddess Contract with her presence.

"Let's change the contents of the contract a bit. You Adventurers have the advantage of numbers, and since you are summoning me, I might be summoned into a dangerous situation. Unless you can assure me that the Adventurer named GrayFox is stunned up for me to snatch. Otherwise, the Deep Dark Originite is mine after I've done my part, regardless of success or failure. On top of that, the effective duration of the contract must be changed to within 20 hours after the contract is signed by both parties."

After WhiteNightFirefly wrote the contents of the contract down, Mohai glanced through it and voiced his opinion.

WhiteNightFirefly did not expect Mohai to be this smart. She fell into deep thought and seemed to contact someone else for consultation before saying, "Fine, but you must prioritize snatching the El Staff."

Mohai was rather crafty, so WhiteNightFirefly had to add a layer of insurance for herself in the Goddess Contract.

Consequently, as long as Mohai saw the El Staff, he must snatch it, or else, the contract would be rendered ineffective and Mohai would not get the Deep Dark Originite.

The contract was monitored by the game system and was fully insured, so WhiteNightFirefly was not worried about Mohai playing tricks or not doing his job properly.

"Great. Be prepared to be summoned at any time."

After the contract was signed, the Goddess Contract scroll and the Deep Dark Originite disappeared from her hands. Only when Mohai got the El Staff and handed it over to her could he get the Deep Dark Orignite.

As for Mohai's safety, both of them did not elaborate on it in the Goddess Contract.

The Goddess Contract sided with the monsters, thus if the monster was killed during employment of the contract, the player would have to suffer great consequences.

The player would not only lose the rewards mentioned in the contract but the player's title, the Heart Of Nature, would also be lost and he or she could never acquire it again.

Therefore, before the contract was over, Mohai was not worried about The Richest betraying him. A mere bandit leader was not worth all that effort.

However, Mohai would be fully prepared. This was a great opportunity to scam a big deal from The Richest!
