Chereads / Reincarnation: I Am The Boss / Chapter 23 - Dog Eat Dog

Chapter 23 - Dog Eat Dog

Even if the Attacks made in Origin did not break the Defense, 1 HP would be forcefully deducted. The calculation method of the character damage and weapons were largely related. Without the weapon, the base damage coefficient would basically be zero and could only inflict 1 to 2 figures of damage.

Previously, Mohai had removed his weapon and taken all of Square's equipment. WhiteNightFirefly was saying this now to warn him not to use this trick on her.

Regardless of having a weapon, she only had 1 HP left. As long as she was hit with [Heavy Bash], she would die and the equipment would not be able to be retrieved by [Snatch].

Mohai did not respond to WhiteNightFirefly's threat. All he did was take out El Staff to look at it, then he said to her, "Maybe you're not clear about this. There's a story behind El Staff."

"What story?" WhiteNightFirefly was cautious of the bandit leader in front of her, but she could not help asking when she heard what he said.

In her eyes, the current version of Mohai was what an NPC should be like. That was a very standard form of mission triggering. While it may not be able to acquire a mission, it was highly possible to get an upgrade for El Staff.

As a mission player, it was impossible for WhiteNightFirefly not to continue asking under such circumstances.

"God El used El Staff when he was young. After that, it was acquired by Queen Talasia who ruled the Endless Land. At that time, Queen Talasia's daughter was about to be born. In order to allow her daughter to surpass her to be more powerful, Queen Talasia altered El Staff so that her daughter could use it as a weapon even when she was still very young.

"Unfortunately, El Staff disappeared from the daughter's hands shortly after that. In order to retrieve the gift that was given to her daughter, Queen Talasia sent many people to find it," Mohai said as he handed El Staff to WhiteNightFirefly.

She immediately felt more relieved when she received El Staff since she could not help worrying about it previously.

"Then?" she continued asking after putting El Staff into her backpack.

In fact, the story that the bandit leader was telling was related to the leveling of El Staff, and there was a high chance of a massive mission chain appearing.

The rewards for the mission chain were usually lucrative, especially if it was related to legendary characters. Once completed, the ultimate reward might surpass one's imagination.

"In order to retrieve El Staff, Queen Talasia promised many rewards. Many people are determined to obtain El Staff, especially the Black Witch who commands the surrounding areas. She actually came from the Endless Land," Mohai said with a blank expression.

Upon hearing those words from Mohai, WhiteNightFirefly's expression changed.

'This doesn't sound right!'

Then, she saw him release the weapon in his hand.

Without hesitation, WhiteNightFirefly quickly retreated. However, her expression changed again after a few steps.

From the rocky terrain behind her, a few bandit leaders appeared and blocked her way. Including this bandit leader, with whom she had entered a contract, there were a total of 5 of them!

"The Black Witch is demanding for El Staff and we can't offend her. If you don't want to die, give us El Staff," Mohai said as he walked towards WhiteNightFirefly.

"Die? I'm not afraid!" WhiteNightFirefly sneered.

Although her friends from The Richest were already rushing to her aid after she sent them a message, it was impossible for her to escape from the bandit leaders' encirclement

They would catch up with her in a few steps, so WhiteNightFirefly did not bother running. Since she only had 1 HP left, an attack by the bandit leaders would spell death. Therefore, she was not afraid.

However, WhiteNightFirefly could not help lamenting over the fact that there was no suicide function in the game. Otherwise, she would have committed suicide and respawned in the city without having to wait for her death.

While WhiteNightFirefly was thinking, Mohai had already charged to her front and landed a punch on her head.

Nevertheless, WhiteNightFirefly did not dodge as she stood bravely at death's door.

Boom!

The punch that landed on her head only hurt WhiteNightFirefly slightly. Then, she was stunned.

What? The punch inflicted over 10 damage to her HP, so how was she still alive?

As her heart fluttered, WhiteNightFirefly looked at her health bar and suddenly realized that she had recovered dozens of HP!

Impossible! How?

She did not have any recovery equipment and no one used [Heal] on her, so how did her HP recover?

WhiteNightFirefly was losing her mind. Before she could figure it out, Mohai's hand grazed her body.

To her horror, El Staff that she acquired not long ago was robbed from her again.

The surrounding bandit leaders rushed over and unleashed their attacks on her. WhiteNightFirefly, who only had a slight amount of HP, instantly turned into a flash of white light and died on the spot.

WhiteNightFirefly actually brought dozens of players along, several of whom had officially changed their occupations into Sorcerers and Holy Knights.

Sorcerers that officially changed occupation had a much larger attack range. Furthermore, with Holy Knights aggroing the monsters plus a few more aides, it was more than enough to kill a bandit leader and his goons.

That was The Richest's final preparation. If the situation did not seem right, they would kill the bandit leader.

However, they did not expect five bandit leaders.

They had no problem dealing with a single bandit leader. Two bandit leaders would be an arduous victory, and they would still have a slim chance to win against three. However, against five bandit leaders plus a group of bandit goons, they would not stand a chance.

After the group of players contacted their superiors, they looked at the five bandit leaders and decided to leave quietly.

"DemonMarshal, I'm sorry, but I lost the staff. I was certain I had 1 HP left before the trade but after I got hold of El Staff, my health mysteriously increased," WhiteNightFirefly said bitterly.

WhiteNightFirefly and DemonMarshal met up in the virtual community.

She had recorded the entire trade on video. Luckily, she had done so. Otherwise, she would not have been able to explain herself.

"It's not your fault. This monster is just too witty." DemonMarshal sighed. He waved his hand and a holograph of the video was projected. Both of them stood and watched the video from a third person's view.

"Pay attention to your body."

The video showed the moment when WhiteNightFirefly took El Staff. DemonMarshal paused the video as WhiteNightFirefly studied it. She saw a flash of faint green light appear on her body.

Because she had been so focused on the bandit leader in front of her and El Staff, she had not realized it at that point.

"How did the monster do it?"

However, WhiteNightFirefly still could not understand it. She did not see anyone use any skills on her. Otherwise, she would have noticed it.

"I'm also unsure, maybe it's something that we have yet to understand," DemonMarshal said.

The game had just started and they did not know many things, so it was not surprising if the monster had a healing method that they were unsure of.

"What should I do? Was what the monster said true?" WhiteNightFirefly paused and asked.

If it was true, the Black Witch would acquire El Staff.

The Black Witch was a Level 20 Boss. Although that was the lowest-level Boss, given the current equipment level of the players, it would be useless even if they had the advantage of numbers.

Until they had reached the adequate level and progressed far enough in the story missions, El Staff would have returned to Queen Talasia of the Endless Land. By then, They would not be able to retrieve El Staff even if they killed the Black Witch.

DemonMarshal shook his head and did not reply because he could not confirm it either.

If there had only been one bandit leader from the start, he would have had an idea. However, all of a sudden, five bandit leaders formed an alliance, confusing DemonMarshal slightly.

Before truly understanding the background of the game, it was meaningless to form any judgment.

Whether the story was true or not, they were going to lose.

...

'I don't know if they're going to believe it.'

The Deep Dark Originite and El Staff had been acquired whilst the Fortune Alliance and The Richest had been tricked. Both sides suffered tremendous losses and many conflicts were raised between them. Mohai was really smug about it.

"Tomorrow let's still move somewhere else just in case."

People were unpredictable. Because Mohai was not the boss of The Richest, he did not know how The Richest would choose.

Even if The Richest did not look for him, the players would conquer the area. If he did not want to be bothered by the players, he would have to move to the inner parts of the Monolith Stronghold.

'It's a pity that the Level 2 Reincarnation Pool has to be upgraded again after moving.'

While people could leave, the Reincarnation Pool would not be able to.

A Grade 2 Reincarnation Pool had more powerful functions than its previous level, especially the [Life Halo] that played a key role in this trade.
