Upon reaching the hospital, Sandra realised what "overwhelmed" truly meant. From the staff car-park, situated right outside of the hospital, the entrance was completely obscured from view.
At a distance, it appeared to be a huge cloud of moving mass, but upon closer inspection, Sandra realised it was people. A whole ton of people, jostling and pushing, trying to shove their way into the hospital.
The shouts and screams of anger, no desperation, reached a crescendo, as Sandra alighted from her car and walked, slightly tentatively, towards the side entrance of the hospital only accessible to staff.
The crowd noticed the doctor, mid-twenties, in white scrubs and a stethoscope, carrying a briefcase.
Her light-brown hair, tied in a simple ponytail, swayed from side to side in accordance with her footsteps as she surpassed the crowd for the door.
Unfortunately, her movements did not go unnoticed by the people, as they stopped trying to shove their way into the main entrance, and ran towards the young doctor.
If they couldn't get through the main door, they could always run through the more inconspicuous staff side-door when that lady opened it, right?
Thus, many abandoned the door the crowd was focused upon, and changed their direction to the door Sandra was currently about to unlock.
As she heard the increasing sound of footsteps towards her, Sandra turned, only to be greeted with the sight of at least fifty people running towards her.
She saw them coming at her like their lives depended on it, and figured that they were waiting for her to open the staff door so that they could get through that entrance instead.
As the crowd drew nearer, Sandra faced them head-on. As the first person reached close, almost within arms-reach, she bellowed, "Stop! That's enough!"
Almost immediately, the crowd ceased movement and became still.
