Chereads / The Goblin Sorcerer / Chapter 2 - First Hunt

Chapter 2 - First Hunt

After eating about half of one of the bodies I finally felt full. The meat didn't taste great but it wasn't exactly horrible, I didn't really have many other choices for a meal either so I ate quickly.

After I was done I realized many of the other Goblins had noticed what I was doing and had started to fight over the remaining bodies. I didn't want my health to fall any lower so I chose a random direction and ran into the trees.

While I was running I checked my status again.

{Status:}

Health: 6/13

Mana: Unavailable

Negative effects: N/A

Ahh, looks like without the hunger effect I had started to regain health again, although slowly. After running for a few minutes to make sure I put some distance between me and the other goblins, well as much distance as my short legs would let me. After catching my breath I finally looked around at the surroundings.

I was in the middle of a large forest with trees that I couldn't even see the top of, but this may have also been because of my short stature. The ground was covered in thick undergrowth and I had already gotten leaves and shrubs stuck to me while running.

I guess the best thing to do now would be to try and level up more. Just adding a point to strength and vitality had significantly boosted my stats.

Negative effects: N/A

Looks like I'm healing at a rate of a point every few minutes. Well, at least I have more than half my health now.

Now back to leveling, I need to find some easy to kill monsters like the goblin back there.

As if answering my call for monsters I smelled something coming close. O yea even though I had short and stubby arms and legs my senses of smell and hearing are actually pretty good.

I submerged myself in the undergrowth and waited for the creature to come closer. No point charging at it like an idiot without knowing what it is first.

As I heard the ding go off in my head I felt I felt myself blend into the forest even more than before. But I'm already green so I do that anyway so the change wasn't that big, but every little helps.

After waiting for a few minutes I could hear small footsteps coming towards me. A little brown and white head poked through one of the bushes and I tried to focus and see what it was.

{You have unlocked skill analyze}

I tried using my new skill as I focused on the creature.

{Forest Rabbit analyzed} {level: 2}

{Cannot eat meat so levels naturally with age}

Yes, it's only level 2, I should be able to actually kill it without much trouble. I thought to grab a stick or a rock to use as a weapon, but at this point, my teeth and claws would probably be better.

I waited until the moment when the rabbit put its head down to eat some grass and I charged it as fast as I could. But right when I was about to attack I felt the description of the rabbit change in my head and I hesitated.

That hesitation saved my life. The little mouth of the rabbit changed into a large maw that bit into the air a few inches in front of where I would have been. I still had the momentum from my charge so I did the only thing I could think of, I tried to jump over the rabbit.

It actually wasn't that hard because it was a lot smaller than me, but I skimmed my leg on its still outstretched maw and instantly started bleeding. There is no way I'm going to fight that hellish thing, I ran towards the closest tree and climbed it easily with my claws.

When I was on the lowest branch I looked back down, the rabbit was there staring at me, but its appearance was back to what it had been a small furry rabbit. What the hell it's almost like it knew I was going to be there and attack it. At least I was smart to climb a tree that looks like it can"t climb with those paws.

I checked the changed description of the rabbit again.

{Fanged Rabbit} {level: ???}

{Lures in unsuspecting prey by changing its appearance}

Shit, I was tricked by a fucking rabbit. How did it even know I was waiting for it there?

{Skill gained pain resistance}

I checked my status to see all the changes.

{Name: N/A}

{Species: Forest Goblin}

Mana: Unavailable

Negative effects: Bleeding

{Stats:}

Dammit, my leg is still bleeding. My health is going to drop all the way to zero at this rate. Wait, that's probably how the rabbit found me in the first place. If I could smell it from that far away it could probably do the same for me, especially with all the goblin blood I still had on me from my earlier meal.

If I'm going to survive I need to stop being so stupid.
