Chapter 4 - Third Option

Charlie stayed put. He wasn't sure what was happening but one thing he was certain of was that he could smell rage. Gerald was utterly enraged.

"Xiomara what did your brat bring into our community?!" Gerald shouted as he stomped down the stairs.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Xiomara shouted back.

"How dare you lie!" Gerald shouted in a fit of rage.

"Who says I'm lying?!"

"I know you're lying! I've had members come to me with concerns! They say they saw your brat carrying something black into your house!"

"She definitely brought something into MY house that you seem to have broken into but she didn't bring anything into the community! You know better then anyone that the walls keep everyone in! How is a five year old supposed to leave the community undetected Gerald?! Answer that!"

"Xiomara! You need to be careful with your words."

"Don't you call my name with that kind of face. Do you think I'm going to apologise?! Gerald just admit that your defenses are faulty. Louisa didn't leave she found the kitten here within the community."

"A CAT! LOUISA BROUGHT IN A CAT?!"

"Gerald relax. I have already tested the animal and it isn't a mutant."

"Xiomara do you not understand what Louisa has done?! That cat could be a mutant spy?!"

"Gerald you are too paranoid."

"No you are too lax! Xiomara bring me that cat or kill it those are your two options."

"No it's not. I have a third and I know you know what my third is."

"Xiomara, your walking on a very dangerous road." Gerald hissed.

"And I will be submitting my report to the head. Now I kindly but not so kindly ask that you get the f*ck out of my house." Xiomara growled as she stomped towards the door.

"This isn't over Xiomara." Gerald spat. "Louisa time for bed!" Xiomara shouted. Charlie then heard gentler footsteps rush into the house before the door was slammed. "Louisa find your cat." Xiomara ordered. Soon there was horribly loud footsteps rushing up the stairs. "Oh no! Kitty?! Kitty where are you?!" Louisa cried out.

Charlie felt his fur settle down as Louisa voice called out to him. He slowly inched out from the clothes and looked up. "Kitty!" Louisa shouted as she jumped towards Charlie and scooped him up into her embrace. "Kitty, I'm so glad you're okay." She said as Charlie felt a comfortable warmth cover his whole body.

"Mom I found him!" Louisa then shouted and rushed out of the room and back down the stairs. "Mom Gerald messed up my whole room! It looks like a tor-na-do hit it." Louisa said as she carefully enunciated the word tornado. Xiomara looked at her daughter with a very serious face then reached out and grabbed Charlie from her embrace.

"Mom what are you doing?!" Louisa shouted. Xiomara ignored Louisa's question and grabbed Charlie's front paw. She inspected the paw then grabbed a pin. "Mom?!" Louisa cried out but Xiomara didn't stop. She pricked Charlie. "What the?! What are you doing?!" Charlie hissed but Xiomara paid no attention to him. She then allowed the blood to pool then dabbed his bleeding paw onto sheets of small, square papers.

"Mom you're hurting him! He's bleeding too much!" Louisa started to cry. She then grabbed her mother and started to pull her arm. "Give him back! You're making him bleed! You're so mean!" Louisa shouted as her tears fell down her face. "Enough Louisa!" Xiomara shouted back then tossed Charlie into a clear cube that had a slots for air.

Charlie was confused and looked around. It had a small area with some sand, a water area and an empty plate. "Louisa pay attention. To feed the cat you need to pull this little door up, put your hand here and you'll feel a small slot for your fingers. Pull it and the plate will slide out from the enclosure." Xiomara said nonchalantly.

"Mom?" Louisa sobbed as she stared at her mother. Charlie watched as the two fought. He wasn't too sure what to do but he did need to attend to his wound. So he laid down and started to lick his paw. "Eek." He meowed as he shook his small head. His ears flapped as he did but no one bothered to ask about his complaint.

"I don't like this taste." He meowed. "See you are stressing him out! Let me take care of him!" Louisa said as she pointed towards Charlie. "Louisa! I'm only going to tell you this once so you better listen." Xiomara said in a dark tone that it made Louisa purse her lips. "If you want the cat to be with you without anyone trying to kill him you need to keep him in that enclosure for the next two weeks."

"NO!" Louisa shouted. "Louisa!" Xiomara shouted back then grabbed her small shoulders. "Gerald knows he's here! He tried to find him and kill him while we were gone! You need to listen or you'll need to bury this cat with the rest of its family!" Xiomara said as she gave Louisa a small shake. Louisa looked hurt and she could no longer look at her mother. Instead she moved her gaze to Charlie who was dressing his wound.

"Louisa, I'm.... I'm doing what your dad would do. Please understand, I'm trying to do what is best. I don't want them to hurt the cat or have them take you away from me." Xiomara said with a small plea. Louis brought back her gaze. "I'll listen." Louisa said relcutantly. "Good." Xiomara said with a sigh. She then let go of Louisa. "For the next two weeks your cat will have to be in this enclosurse until I can prove he's not one of those mutants outside." Xiomara said.

"Once I do you can take your cat with you everywhere you go." Xiomara continued with a gentler tone. Louisa looked at her mother with shock. "Do you mean it?" Louisa asked doubtfully but her eyes shinned with hope. "No one will ever touch your cat." Xiomara said with conviction.
