A high class Bugatti Veyron made its way towards the entrance of Hotel La Rosa, a five star hotel resort at the heart of city A.
A woman with a purple midi sheath dress came out from the driver seat. Her hair was styled in soft layers. It fluttered around whenever she took a step. And then, a man with a face unknown to others, but still captivating, also came out from the passenger seat. He wore a simple white t-shirt under a grey trench coat. His style was casual, but it somehow made him look even more elegant and sexy.
A valet rushed forward to drive the car away, and the woman gave the car key to him with a smile.
Some people around the area were stuck in their feet, looking at the both of them with wonder. The woman walked towards her man and he gave her his arm. Together, they went inside the hotel and headed for a private room exclusively for Kim family.
"How do you feel?", Lucy turned to Aubrey who was beside her.
"I feel strange.", he said. And she laughed.
"What do you mean?", she asked, still laughing.
"I remember getting my school report card, my parents were standing right in front of me. They scolded me for getting an A- in language.", he said, reminiscing about the day when he was seven.
Lucy stared at Aubrey for some time before she gave him a peck on the cheek.
"You're so cute.", she said suddenly.
"What?", he faced her.
"You must be very cute when your were young. And still cute."
"Hey, I was cute. But now I'm not.", Aubrey said. He looked offended.
"And why is that..?", she provoked him further.
"Because I'm cool.", he said, not feeling embarrassed.
"Yes yes. And you forgot to mention that you're hot and sexy, and good looking.", she went on.
"Hey!", his face started to flush. This woman was incredible!
They looked happy even from the sideline, as if they were the the only couple here on earth. Gary couldn't find himself to look away even though his heart bled.
Lucy and Aubrey went inside the VIP room. They were the last to arrive. Even her grandfather was here. Annie and Leah stared at Aubrey for a long time. They were actually intimidated. They looked at Lucy's dress and his eyes. Both were the same color. This girl was very bold.
Mia who was seating beside her father stood up and went towards her sister and Aubrey.
"Sis and Aubrey! You guys come!", she sounded excited. She then grabbed Lucy's hand and pulled her to the table.
"Hey!", Lucy didn't budge that much as she was holding onto Aubrey.
"Goodness sis. Don't keep sticking with your boyfriend even in front of us!", Mia teased her sister.
"Shut it.", Lucy scolded Mia. But the latter then gave up on her and went to Aubrey. She grabbed Aubrey's hand and pulled him away.
Mia brought Aubrey right in front of the elders. Charles Kim was sitting in the middle while on his right was his son, Sam Kim. His left side sat his daughter, Annie Kim and beside her was Leah.
"Nice to see you, grandfater.", Aubrey greeted Charles first of all people. And he used 'grandfather' just as Charles had told him to.
Sam Kim was surprised. His father wasn't angry? Aubrey just called him grandfather and not chairman Kim!
Charles smiled, he saw that Aubrey had changed a lot since they first met.
"Nice to see you, Lucy's father, mother and aunt.", he bowed towards them, showing his respect.
"It's nice to see you too. I'm Lucy's aunt, Annie.", Annie Kim was the first to stand up and went to Aubrey. She took his hand and smiled.
She never thought Lucy's partner would be this handsome and also polite. He seemed mature too.
Leah stood up following Annie, she also walked towards Aubrey.
"I've heard your name from Mia, but do you mind introduce yourself again?", Leah gave him a light smile.
"It's Aubrey, madam Kim. Aubrey Lee.", he smiled back.
"Aubrey Lee from Lee Group.", Charles suddenly said. Sam turned to his father, even Annie and Leah did the same.
"He's my best friend's grandson.", Charles explained.
"And I want only him to be my grandson in law.", Charles faced Sam, as if giving him a warning. No one could change his decision.
"But father, he isn't a doctor! Our family-", Sam wanted to retort but he received a glare instead.
"Lee family is out of our reach. But here you are, attending a family dinner with us Kim family.", Annie couldn't help but get embarrassed. She had once told Lucy if Aubrey was actually leeching off her. Now she knew why Lucy had shook her head upon hearing her said that.
"You're younger by two years. And you don't have anything except for your family's fortune. Unlike us, we thrive for becoming a doctor.", Sam scoffed. He still wasn't happy. Aubrey was just an heir to a global business? Well, he didn't try hard enough to get independent from his Lee Group.
Lucy felt like flipping the table. How could her father say that?! He didn't know a single thing about Aubrey!
Charles took a glance over his granddaughter. He saw her gloomy face. He didn't like it.
"Listen, I've proposed a marriage to both Lucy and Aubrey.", Charles suddenly said. All attention went to him.
"What do mean?", Leah asked, confused.
"Marriage?", Annie was bewildered.
"Yes, and they agreed. Since I didn't give them a choice.", Charles was as composed as ever.
Lucy smiled widely as she winked at her dearest grandfather.
"We're married.", Lucy continued after her grandfather. Her face clear and confident.
Mia's eyes and mouth opened to form an O. All of them were in shock. And the silence was broken when they heard a sound from behind. It was Gary, who went out for a while and came back. His face was priceless. He didn't know what to say.
'I didn't get to talk to him yet.', Lucy sighed internally.
"What is the meaning of this?!", Sam was now out of his mind. He was angry. His daughter went and married without his permission?!
"It's just as you heard. This is grandfather's idea, I just followed.", Lucy said, feigning innocence.
"You-!", before Sam could say more, Charles banged the table. His face strict.
"Do you have any say in this matter when I'm the one who suggested it?", Charles Kim turned towards his son. He didn't remember ever raising a hard-headed son like this one.
"But I'm her father!", Sam raised his voice by an octave.
"And by being her father, do you ever considered her words and wants?", Charles' words threw Sam into silence. He couldn't say anything back.
Sam had always thought that what he did to Lucy was purely for her happiness and success. He was a tough teacher and father. He was strict. His expectations towards Lucy was high. But did he do the same to Mia? He didn't. Mia was pampered ever since she was a child. And Lucy being the oldest had to shoulder many things alone.
"I'm the only one who got to choose how I live my life. Even my parents can't interfere with it.", Lucy said. She took Aubrey's hand and they both took a seat.
Mia faced her, confused.
"What? Thought I was going to walk away?", she wasn't the one to run when things got tough.
'I didn't do anything wrong anyway.', she said to herself.
