Chapter 8 - Boring life

CHAPTER EIGHT

A piece of note is what she's holding right now. Things I should buy but she doesn't have enough money to buy this all. She had a hard time sleeping last night because she just lay in her bags the whole night.

On her list;

Sofa bed x one pillow and bed mat √

Rice cooker x just eat outside

Table and chair x just sit or eat on the floor!

"Enough Sassah… let's buy the necessary so you can survive for another paycheck."

She went to the public market in her sweatwear with an eco-bag and her favorite white rubber shoes. She was shocked how the commodity is so expensive. Even Though, she was still able to buy things that were listed on her checklist.

Inside here shopping bag;

A small rice cooker, small mirror, coffee mug, lunch box, single pairs of dining utensils, and a kilo of rice.

"Huh life, I almost spent all my money. You can do it Sassah, you can make it!" She encouraged herself. There are still things she can be grateful for. The old apartment she is occupying was almost empty now and the landlady allowed her to take the smaller room in the last floor before the rooftop without a deposit and just the advance rental. She only presented her Job order notice and got the room without so much pleading.

"I think I want to go green… should I buy some pots and do some planting.Should I buy an aquarium too…? More life the merrier. Should I have a dog or cat…? Can I have them both?"

After arranging the stuff she bought she planned her interior as well while arranging to keep her mind occupied afterwards, she cooked something for her lunch at work. She ate before she went to take a bath and prepare for training.

Time passed so fast and it's already the weekend. As a trainee they don't have weekend schedules yet. Her schedule is perfect. She can attend her reservist training on weekends. Though she's tired, she knew that she should make it and went on with it.

She brought an extra shirt, undies, and towel. She left wearing a white shirt, blue jeans pants, rubber shoes, and black cap. It's still dark outside. Time clock, it's 5am. She still has two hours before her schedule. She knew military time. During orientation, they were oriented about the basic procedures, the rules and regulations, the requirements, the benefits. They are done after lunch.

Six months have passed so fast. She begged from her team leader to have a weekend off in return, she became on call schedule. She will cover the shift of others to do more adjustments or overtime if needed. It's her life for six months now. She worked but her existence at work remained unnoticed. She likes playing samurai games, walking in the room silently and leaving silently. She refused going or attending any party because she's focused on her goal. Her team gave up on her since they can't influence her to break from her usual boring routine. No one knew her other plan.

In the past six months, she lived a minimalist life that even having a dog is already a luxury for her. Her dog is a bulldog- hotdog that she named Charlie black who accompanied her for that long six boring months.. She also passed her officer ship exam and assessment while working as a call center trainee. And now, she will be deployed for one year intense officership training and study. As she is about to graduate with Reservist batch 1001 Alpha bravo within the month. She is about to leave again. Today, she will file her resignation.

"Hey woman, what is the meaning of this?" It's her team leader Wendy roaring at her.

"My resignation…? I'm firing myself from this awesome job…?"

"I know we're awesome. But, what on earth happened? Why on earth are you leaving suddenly? You are about to become a regular employee!"

"I'm done here" She replied softly then she saw tears forming in her team leader's eye.

"Oh come on Wendy, stop that puppy teary eyes, we don't have that"

"Yeah… because you didn't care even if we did care about you."

"You care? Haha! Okay fine. I'm grateful. I will take that and not that you will be making a major adjustment in your scheduling now since your bullet will be gone, me will be gone."

"Hmp, you nailed it and you know, you're turning bitchy each day.

"Ha-ha I'll take that as a compliment." She said afterwards, they exchanged hugs and kisses for a while and she left with a smile still grateful for the opportunity this job gave her when she needed it the most.

Going back home, as she's about to go upstairs when the landlady approached her.

"Hi sassah, how's your day?"

"Good. How about you?"

"Well, awesome as ever by the way, I have a new condo unit to offer. Do you think you will be interested? My son came back from Canada and we decided to renovate this building."

"Oh, that sounds nice. Of course! I will be most interested especially if you will give me a very friendly discount. Where will it be anyways?"

"Of course by the way, it's in the metro."

"Wow, Cool!"

Sassah checked the unit that was offered and decided to rent it to Ms. Suey. The unit is much more comfortable and huge than her previous one. She got discounts. Because she's living a minimalist lifestyle, she move-in easily and saved her a lot of time.

She was unpacking her things when she got a call from Ellaina. She's asking if she can pick her up from school because she got injured from her dance practice and doesn't want to worry their mother anymore because she's taking maintenance for hypertension. When she left home before the end of quarantine, everything went well at their home. That's why, she was thinking if she's a jinx if she went home.

"Sassah! You're here!" Elaina ran towards her after she stepped inside the university and she seemed well and uninjured.

"Suck it up Elaina, you're just missing me, don't you?"

"Miss my ass Sassah! I just heard you got a good place to live, don't you?"

"That was fast, I only told tiney that I just moved in the metro."

"Know that it's great that your place is near my university and oh from tiney's office too! So, you must adopt me here!"

"Really?! Near to both, I haven't noticed that."

"Yeah. Oh, this is your place then. It seems nice… there's so nothing here huh."

"Heh, I just moved in, remember? Just sleep on the couch. You're lucky that I have one now." She said while feeding her dog Charlie at the terrace.

"I can't believe you got yourself hurt an hour after you stepped into that school." She continued talking while feeding her dog.

"Never mind. Just help yourself and I need to sleep. I have work later at night." She's so sleepy that she let her sister explore around on her own. Her sister took photos from her room and the beautiful night view of the metro from her unit.

"Sassah, can I sleepover here?" She got no response as Sassah was already asleep. They got up early in the morning the next day.

"Elaina, can you make me an egg sandwich please for my snacks later, thank you!" She requested while she was taking shower inside the bathroom. "Oh sure!I'll leave it here on the table, hope you'll like it. I'm leaving!"

"Okay, just lock the door when you leave!"
